The art of makeup

Mariela

Cathlete
I draw and paint, but I am now developing an interest for the art of makeup. Why not use my habilities for such a practical art? It is just starting to attract my attention a bit more seriously, but still as a hobbie. I checked out books on makeup at Amazon, but I wasn't sure if the books are what I'm looking for, and still a little shy about investing on a book on the theme. Does any of you know a website that give good pointers or tricks on makeup. Also, the last tendencies. Thanks in advance!

Mariela

I don't know if this is what you would be looking for, but you might check out the makeup companies on line. Bobbie Brown, Lancome, Estee Lauder, Clinique, Loreal, Revlon etc. They have tips on foundation colors, lip color, eye shadows, how to apply blushes, shadings etc.
Sounds like a fun hobby to get into. :D

Hi Mariela,
Kevyn Aucoin had a few books. They are "Face Forward" and "Making Faces" He was THE ultimate make-up guru. He had a website that still had chat even after his death. You might want to check that out. How about Smashbox, Laura Geller, stila and MAC? They're some professional lines.

Another good resourse is Allure magazine, kind of like the makeup junkies bible.

Where's Anna? We need her input here!

Have fun!!!

Bobbi Brown has a good book out also, and it has application tips, etc.
Makeupalley.com is an excellent site. I spend ALOT of time on it, reading reviews, etc.
and of course, cosmeticscop.com is a mainstay.
Try Sephora.com as well. thet give you alot of useful links.

Bobbi Brown's book is called Beauty Evolution. She has also written 2 other makeup books. I bought it and really liked. It is worh owning, and is a good reference manual. None of the photos in it are digitally retouched. (The saleswoman at the B.Brown counter where I bought the book told me that)

Hi Mariela! Lancome once offered me a makeup artist training course. They wanted me to come work for them! I guess they felt I bought sooo much of the makeup let's offer her a job to buy more!LOL Anyway you might want to look into this. Their makeup artists are wonderful! Worth a shot, Kathy

Hey, Kathy. Can you tell me how can I know more about it? I saw the website but didn't find anything on makeup courses.

I was at the Lancome makeup counter buying what else makeup!! One of the representatives there had asked me if I wanted a job w/them. You'll have to inquire w/one of their representatives for more details. Oh, BTW I just looked in my purse & came across one of the make-up experts business cards so I'll give her a call & inquire for you. What state do you live in by the way? I'll check back w/you later. Kathy

Hi Mariela :)

Are you the same Mariela I gave advice on Skin Brushing ? If so, hello there, hope you are well :)

I have had a good look through my bookmarked beauty web sites, and have come up with the following:

www.makeupdiva.com

www.askariane.com

This is Ariane Poole's web site, she is a well known make-up artist in the UK.

www.thebeautybible.com

This web site may be of some use but the actual Beauty Bible book is a must have. It not only has chapters on make-up (courtesy of Bobbi Brown), but also skin care, body care, sun care, hair care, fitness and general well being. The book is called,

'The 21st Centrury Beauty Bible' by Sarah Stacey and Josephine Fairley, and is available through Amazon.com

Hope this helps,

Anna :)
