Thanksgiving and the Flu

Just something I am pondering over....

I remember a few years ago that I got the flu about 1 week after having everyone over for a Thanksgiving dinner. Think about it...closed in house, lots of people, and some with colds already coughing and touching everything. I am having about 20 people over????? Have I gone mad???? Now we hear about the Avian Bird Flu. The one thing to be thankful for is that one will not get sick. Gosh, I love my family and friends, but I don't want to share germs.

I so agree!

I try to mention the handwashing habit with everyone, especially when many people are over at once. And leftovers? I throw away anything that has been left at room temperature and/or had many 'hands' grabbing at it over the course of the party. (like veggie trays, and dessert trays etc.)

i was just thinking that myself. my MIL seems to be always sick but wants us to come over her house for the holiday where everything is infected(and honestly not the worlds best house keeper). i am usually pretty quick to recover from sickness but i do have a little one and no way in heck are we going to miss more school then we should. maybe we should all go the bahamas for the holidays LOL.

Don't obsess about the handwashing. That won't help much to prevent the flu because the flu virus is transmitted by droplets in the air from coughing and sneezing. You'll need to go with Shelley's idea and enclose yourself in a bubble. LOL!!

Would a mask be enough? LOL! Maybe I can stick some cotton up my nose and no one will notice and just not open my mouth, if only to eat (maybe I should eat under the table while pretending to look for something)?

Actually, I wouldn't give up on handwashing--most of the articles I've seen recently that say that handwashing it's key to preventing yourself from getting the flu.

I was just teasing in the above referrenced post}( . However, while handwashing is always a good idea (and I tend to do it obsessively myself), it is not enough to prevent the spread of the flu virus which is transmitted primarily via the air and then we breathe it in.
