I am so touched by all your positive feedback and concern. Thanks to all of you for the great tips and websites. I have printed off everything and am going to do alot of research over the next few weeks. Just to add fuel to my mission, our town had an open forum with members of legislature last night and the education future for our town's kids looks even worse than we thought. We have another open forum on Monday to give our closing comments on the school closing and then it is up to powers that be (which frightens the @$#*@# out of me)to make the decision as to which school will close (currently there are two up for grabs).

At least now I have an possible alternative and I don't feel so helpless.

I thought I'd also add christianbook.com to the list of sites to check out. You can find whole curriculum sets, workbooks, videos, games, etc. Plus they have a bargain page. They'll also send out a catalogue (as will A Beka, Bob Jones, etc.) at no charge. I've also found great unused or minimally used workbooks along with text books and readers at Goodwill. It might be worth a shot for you. And the library is great for videos! I've been homeschooling my three sons for 3 years and I am thankful for the option and opportunity. We just take it year by year! Next year will be 6th, 3rd, and 2nd grades in our home, with the possiblilty of part-time middle school classes for our eldest. I pray that God will give you wisdom in your decision. If you homeschool, you'll be a great teacher. Your interest and desire for reasearch makes that clear! God bless!

CinDee, thank you so much for the info! And you mentioned also that your eldest might be doing part-time middle school classes next year. Is that a possibility - to combine homeschool with public school?
