Thanks Kathryn!

Hi Kathryn,

Thanks for telling us about Ross having the Reebok Ironwear weighted gloves. I went there yesterday and found them. I'd been searching for some all over and now I'm so happy I finally got them. They only had the one pounders. Do you have any recommendations about how to use them - meaning should I wear them for the warm-up too, or warm-up with out them?

Another unrelated question, do you still use Mirenesse mascara? Because of your recommendation awhile ago, I've been using it and love it, however I haven't seen it on HSN lately. Have you ever ordered directly from Mirenesse? I bet it'll cost more...

Anyhow, I hope you are getting over your case of poison ivy and that the prednisone provided some relief. I searched in this book I had about alternative remedies, some of which I think you already tried, but it said for severe cases you better use the prednisone, unfortunately. Hope you get back to "normal" soon.

Thanks!
Melissa

I'm glad you found them. Aren't they great? I love the way they feel on my hand. 1# is great, and I don't think it's necessary to really go beyond that. You can continue to up the intensity by punching faster or with more power rather than adding more weight. I definitely wouldn't recommend more than 1# for someone just starting.

As for using them. I don't recommend ever using them for the warm-up or cool-down. And you might want to gradually work up to using them for the entire "center" of the workout. Like 10 mn. at first, then taking them off, and adding 5 mn. per time. I might be overly cautious, but I think it's better to be safe than sorry!

I still use it, or at least I did until summer started (I don't wear much make-up when not teaching, though I have a conference in Québec next month that I'll wear it for). Did you go to www.hsn.com ? Even if things are not on air, they are often available online (and they may even have an auto delivery option so you can automatically get it every 60 days or so).

Today was my last dose, and I hope it's done everything good it needs to. It kind of makes me feel hopped up, and I've been getting less than 7 hours of sleep each night. And 7 was a LONG night (I'm a 8 hour+ gal, so that's NOT normally enough for me). Last night was the worst. Last time I looked at the time before I feel asleep, it was 4:30! (Some people get up at that time! ) So I got a great grand total of 4 hours of sleep last night! (I tried to nap after feeding the cats and giving my diabetic cat his insulin, but it didn't work).

One good side to this side effect is it also seems to be kind of a brain stimulant. I've had LOTS of ideas for my conference, for a song class I'm prepping for this fall, and for what types of presentations I'm going to be giving at three different conferences over the next 3 years! I've been keeping a notebook and pen by the bed to take advantage of the ideas, and writiing them all down (5-6 pages last night!).

(And these really are good ideas, not like the ones that people get while they're on illegal drugs, and write down like there the most profound thoughts ever, then when they come down off their high, look at it and don't understand squat!).

Why, Kathryn, whatever do you mean?;)

The gloves feel great on - can't wait to try them out this weekend. I will take your suggestions and ease into using them.

I did try hsn.com for the Mirenesse mascara. When I clicked on Mirenesse, they had maybe two or three products available - no mascara. I hope they aren't discontinuing their products.

Anyhow, glad to hear you're almost off the prednisone so maybe you can get more sleep. I'm envious you usually get 8+. I'm lucky if I get 6 or 7. At least you got some good ideas as a side effect! Too bad it took a bad case of poison ivy though...

Take care!
