Thank God for choices !

Sometimes I read things on this board that just strike me as crazy. Take the argument that developed over vegan and nonvegan diets. I've read similar arguements over other issues. I am grateful to have choices. Why do people have to work so hard at seeming superior because of some belief they hold. There are usually arguments for all sides that have some real validity. I have health, a home, food to eat... Far more than most the world. I just think sometimes we need to step back and get some perspective. Thank God for choices! I wish we celebrated them more!

I agree, Hopefull, but I also really enjoy people who are passionate about their beliefs. I think it generally works out okay around here, overall!

I love having choices, too. ;)

I for one have a choice.
This is my last post.
At 1st I loved this site. Lately I have noticed alot of mean people and adult clicks.(this isn't high school)
People that don't agree with people hack on them.
If i wanted to read attitiudes I would get on a chat line.
I really thought this was an informative, people helping people site.
Ideas, questions, sucesses, and sometimes a place to vent.
I have read alot of valuable info, but i think the time is over.
Thanks to those for all the valuable information.
It was nice talking to many of you ladies.
I think I will devote my computer time to reading, not argueing.

Dear Hopefull, you are right about having choices. Sometimes I choose not to post a reply to a thread I find inflammatory or offensive. Sometimes I have to laugh. Most of the time though, I find thoughtful, informative, intelligent and very supportive replies here and I plan on sticking around quite a while.

Hi Hopefull,

I can only assume you're talking about the thread where someone asked a question about whether or not she could indulge in a little red meat and still lose weight. She received a couple of replies advancing the vegan cause to which I responded.

I think the entire exchange was friendly. There were no harsh comments. No one resorted to name calling. The posts were filled with little smilie faces, and I think the relationships are all intact. I certainly have no axe to grind with anyone. I simply replied with my honest thoughts on a post and received some honest, well thought out replies in return. Everything was resolved in a friendly and courteous manner and I'm happy.

I hope Anne, that you will reconsider. I think there is room for everybody here. It's a big forum and we we aren't all going to agree about everything all of the time, but I think we can have our disagreemnets and still come away having gained some knowledge and perspective, just like Hopefull stated in her post.

I must have missed that thread?

hopefull,
I didn't see that thread, so I proceed with caution here. But generally, I admit to enjoying a bit of respectful disagreement and airing of differing opinions. The vast majority (if not all) of the posters here are courteous and respectful and know the difference between "I disagree with your opinion" and "You are a knucklehead". Now that I've commented on it, I suppose I should go check out the thread. :+

hopefull,

I just got a private email from an unidentified person, and thought it might be you. Your email said something about my comment being "ugly" and "hostile", so I went back and checked, but I don't see any hostile or ugly comments by me at all on this thread. Therefore, I am completely confused by your email, if the email was from you.

The email was entitled "knucklehead" but I assure you I am not now, nor have I ever, called anyone on this board a knucklehead. It was just an amusing word I used to try to make a point.

Nancy, FWIW I too didn't see anything ugly or hostile about your post. Nor have I ever seen any of your posts be hostile or ugly.

ITA. In fact there have been several instances when I have been impressed by Nancy's ability to diffuse a testy post/topic with grace and humor. I should be so skilled! :D

Catherine and Sparrow, I appreciate your comments very much. However, my posts have not always been exemplary. That said, I did not feel, nor did I intend, even a hint of hostility when I posted on this thread, and I appreciate your confirmation that I did not come across that way.

Nancy,

I just wanted to get in line behind Sparrow and Catherine! I saw NOTHING offensive about your post at all!:)

As I pull my big foot out of my mouth. I reread you email and now get it. I totally misread what you wrote. I am so sorry. I also didn't mean to send a "mysterious email". I thought it was obvious who it was from. I feel like a "knucklehead" right now!

Hopefull

Apology accepted Hopefull! :D Please don't feel like a knucklehead. We have all misread posts at one time or another. :D
-Nancy

Well, Nancy, if you are a knucklehead, I would like to be included in that category! I think your posts are intelligent and informative and I always look forward to reading your opinions.

With you in knuckledom,
Marie
:)

I completely agree w/you Hopefull. I've personally chosen low carb/Atkins for my diet, & whenever I post something about it here I always get at least one negative comment about it.

On the other hand, I've seen many many posts on here about diets that I think are just as (if not more) nuts, but I would never judge someone for how they choose to eat. Bottom line is people have to choose what works for them, & whether it's Atkins or vegan or the see-food diet none of them are wrong, they're just individual choices.
