TeTe - Gravity's Rainbow

Have you started? I only managed to find a copy on Sunday, so I'm not very far in. It's definitely not a light read, is it? I think it's going to take me a while to read, since I have to really think about every single sentence!

Okay, Ms. Shelley,

I suck. I spent more time outside playing instead of reading on vacation (the weather was just too perfect!!!!). I didn't get very far in "Gravity's Rainbow." I was just introduced to our ant-hero, Slothrop. What's that, like page 20 or something? ( I do have a craving for Prentice's Banana Breakfast. mmmm...banana mead!!!)

Anyhoo, I've been trying to find the damn monster of a book in my unpacking, and have come up empty-handed. I may have left it in the cottage. So, I'm off to the library (DO YOU HEAR THAT, BEAVS!!???;)) to pick up a copy and I'm diving into it again this weekend...they're calling for rain, and I'm actually looking forward for a reason to stay in and veg with a book.

How about you? You finished it, right? You've written an entire book report, haven't you?

Finished it? Lord no! I think I'm around the same place you are.

I did love the banana breakfast scene. It made me hungry though. ;-)

Like I said, I think I'm going to have to read this one slowly, because I'll miss way too much if I try to speed through it.

His style reminds me a lot of Timothy Findlay. Have you ever read anything by him?

Whew!!! :)

No, I haven't read anything by Timothy Findlay, but give me some recommendations and I'll put them on my ever-growing list of books to read!

Oooh! We know how smart women hit the library aka the liberry ;-)

I wish I could participate in the discussion but alas, it sounds too complicated for a chick whose only enjoyment reading takes place in bed before she passes out. I do wonder if any of the "obscene" parts involve Werner von Braun. HA!

Okay, Timothy Findlay recommendations:

Not Wanted on the Voyage (a very twisted take on the Noah story)
Headhunter (in this one, a woman with some mental issues manages to release Kurtz from the pages of Heart of Darkness to wreak havoc on Toronto)

He's Canadian and quite... different ;-)

"I do wonder if any of the "obscene" parts involve Werner von Braun."

Do I detect hints of a crush, Beavs?

Thanks for the suggestions, Shelley!
