Terrified of Interval Max!

Cathe, heeeelp!!!

I received it today. I'm previewing the WARMUP, and it's freaking me out ok??? Your warm-ups are tougher than most step workouts. :)

It's going to take *months* to get the courage to do this one. And that's WITH a step! LOL!

Should I start with a 6-inch step or on the floor?

RE: I'm not Cathe but . . .

. . . I am working on my PhD. in I-Max, and I am here to tell you if I can master it you can! I went from not being able to complete the toughest intervals without modifying to actually, these days, being able to EXTEND all intervals by at least 8-16 reps, and replace the recovery floor segments with rear and side leg lifts as well as power-3's and power-7's for all repeaters in the step aerobic segments.

If you're comfortable with a 6-inch step try that; perhaps be prepared to go to a 4-inch step if necessary. I don't think you need to go to the floor.

Just be persistent, and try to do a little more each session, and you'll be amazed at how you train up!

I agree - as a matter of fact, it was Aquajock's tips that got me to the point where I can do it all with no modifications (thanks Annette!!!!!). You will feel SO GREAT after doing this video, even if you have to modify like crazy. Every time you do it, you can step it up just a little bit more and your fitness level will just go sky high. There is just something so motivating about this one - just take a deep breath and dive in! Personally, I always used an 8" board and just modified in the beginning because I knew that if I started on a 6" I would have a tough time going up later, but then I am 5'8" with long legs so that is probably not right for everyone. I was scared too -I had this one for TWO MONTHS before I got the courage to do it for the first time! So I know how you feel. Go for it!! You'll love it. Let us know how you do.

RE: I'm not Cathe but . . .

...but YIKES, Annette, I don't think I'll EVER be able to do THAT!!!!! You must be descended from Amazons!!

Kimba, this was my first Cathe (or maybe PM, cant' remember), but I say JUST DO IT!!!! The first time, I just pulled out my 4" step and tackled that sucker. So, I can't do those high jumps like, Cathe. So what!! There's something about the intervals in this tape that's empowering and energizing to me. The rest periods are what make this doable. It's really fun. FEEL THE POWER!! Robin.

You will love this workout. At first, I had to modify a lot also but in time you will get better at it. I now can do this one without any modification and I feel so proud of myself. That is why Cathe's workout's are so great! They are challenging. Other video's I'm bored after the first or second time through. Not with Cathe's. I won't buy anyone else's anymore. She is the BEST!!!! Keep trying to do a little bit more each time. You can do it.

Don't be afraid, Kimba! Well, okay, be a little afraid.

Seriously, as Cathe says, it's a workout you need to ease your way into. First time you do it, use no risers on your step. In fact, you may not even want to use a step. And make as many modifications as necessary. With each interval, Cathe shows a less-powerful version you can do if you start to get tired. You've got to respect where you're at, as Bryan Kest would say :) Over time your strength will build and you'll be able to complete the tape with fewer and fewer modifications.

Hi Kimba! Don't panic! While this is definitely not a video that is easy to do, it is doable with time. Take your time and watch it while doing laundry or something. Then when you first try it, do it on a four inch step height AND only shoot to do three to five intervals. You may not want to go all out on intensity while learning the moves. Once you get comfortable with the first five, gradually add on a few more every few workouts until you reach all 10. After that point, you can start to really push yourself through all 10 intervals. Good Luck!

Hi Kimba,
I don't have IMAX yet, I plan to get it in my next ordering round, but I just wanted to comment on your statement, "your warm ups are tougher than most step tapes!" I have said that so many times, it's nice to know someone else feels that way too :)
Cathe has warm ups that literally have me saying, "are we still warming up or is this the workout?"
Gotta love her :)
Donna

Thanks for the advice, Cathe! Well, I'm going to take the plunge tomorrow IF I don't chicken out ;)

I'll try to do three intervals and will let you know how it goes. I don't have a 4-inch step, so I'll definately be taking it easy.
