taking your measurements

okay, it is official, i hate the scale. i am going to start taking measurements maybe once a month and try to measure my progress that way. so, now that i have decided that, i have no idea what to measure. i was thinking thigh, waist, and chest. should i measure anything else??

TIA

Karin

I measured my bust, waist, hips, thighs, and arms. I have found that it is a much better way to moniter than the scale. I call the scale my enemy. I took my first measurements in August and have lost quite a few inches (although I didn't really get too serious about eating and exercise until about December) but I have not seen to much drop in the number on the scale. So I really avoid the scale except for every once in a while, and that is only after I first wake up in the morning before I eat.

I decided last month to ditch the scale. I will continue taking measurements though.

I take:

Waist
Hips
Chest
Thigh
Calf
Bicep

From April last year to January this year, I lost a number of inches, but not really any weight. It really is a better gauge.

Since muscle weighs more than fat, I think that a tape measure and calipers are much more accurate ways to tell if you are overweight or not. Even the BMI site has a caveat that says that their measurement may not apply to very athletic people.

Normally I measure myself every 3 months or so, but since I just went through a pregnancy...I've been doing it every week. This is what I do:

Weight
Largest part of arm
Waist-- smallest part & largest part (unless your abs are all the same size...I have a pooch)
Largest part of thighs
Chest--I do over my boobs
Hips
Ankle--I don't know why I do this...it's always the same, perhaps I SHOULD do calves ;)
