Taking an EXTRA birth control pill??

OMG, I feel so dumb. I accidentally took another birth control pill when I should have taken my anti depressant! LOL! I am quite spacey apparantly.

Anyone know what to do about this as far as side effects and/or how to continue taking my pill pack?? I could take Saturday's pill tomorrow and so on and end up starting my pill one day early, right? I don't want to throw the whole pack away!!!!

They are monophasic pills, I took one at 8am, the other at 5:30 pm today. Autumn...r u out there or anyone else who knows anything!!


I know what to do if I MISS one or two or three........but taking an EXTRA??? That's a first!!:7 :7

Janice, that's funny! It doesn't really say anywhere what to do if you do THAT!!

I read somewhere that if you get breakthrough bleeding, that sometimes it's because there's not enough of the hormone and that until you get your prescription changed, you should take two pills a day. But those pills should come from a different packet so you're just literally getting a double dose of the same pill. So I don't think two a day could HURT you at all..

Logically it sounds like it makes sense to just keep going and it would just shift things around one day earlier and you should be fine, but that's just what I think it's not based on anything. Maybe someone who knows the facts can tell you more --

Hi Janice! It is ok, you are in nursing school. Your brain is on overload.

As Ruppie said, the extra hormones should be ok. Woman taking daily birth control pills can take Emergency Contraception if indicated, which is a lot more hormones. As for how to handle this, please call your physician. How to handle this will depend on the provider.

You can either skip todays & begin again tomorrow (and use backup to be certain you don't get pg....or take Saturdays today & get your period a day earlier. I'd opt for the 2nd option.

Thank you all. I had school today so I could not call my provider, but I did take the next pill. I didn't spontaneously combust so I suppose I'll be OK! ;-)
