Hi everybody! I am taking the American Council on Exercise's Personal Trainer Certification Exam tomorrow. I took the sample test they sent me and I got 70 percent of the questions right. I don't know if that's good-- sounds bad to me, but I hope I pass tomorrow.
On the same note, I have met a personal trainer and had a few sessions with him to help orient me to the kind of work that trainers do. I can report that having this good trainer is like having Cathe right there spotting you. Imagine that instead of just saying "Back flat, abs engaged," she saw you and only you, and told *you* where to move to make *your* form perfect.
For example, I discovered I was standing just a tad too far forward at the bottom of my squats. I should have been pushing my glutes out a little farther, an inch or two, and tilting my torso forward ever so slightly to keep balanced in that new position. And going just a little lower (ow).
He didn't let me get away with anything and I pushed myself harder because I knew he was watching.
He knows I'm taking the test, and I have hired him to train me to help me get into the position where I can at least say I have some gym experience.
I have not really spent much time in gyms, especially since Cathe entered my life. But real gym experience is strongly recommended by ACE to prep for this exam.
While there, I was even thinking about Cathe, thinking, "Well, Cathe has a trainer! And she has a gym to go to-- in fact, she liked it so much she invested a lot more in it than I'm planning to right now!" You know, the talks we give ourselves to justify expense.
So wish me luck, and remember I learned a lot of what I know from Cathe herself and from this forum. I'll let you all know how the experience was and how I think I did, and of course as soon as I know, whether I actually passed.
