Taking a test tommorrow and scared to death

I am taking a college entrance test tomorrow. I am 48 years old, completely out of my range and element, feeling out of control, teary and scared to death. I would, in all honestly, rather be jumping out of an airplane (with a parachute of course).

Any added prayers would be greatly needed and appreciated.
Where is that miracle card when I need it?

Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

First, I'm sending lots of calming and positive vibes your way. Don't sweat the test, you'll do just fine. :)

Also, as for feeling out of your element, I work at a college and there are a lot of non-traditional aged students (we like to call them non-trads) like yourself here. They're a fantastic addition to the campus community and appreciated by everyone. You will have the great opportunity to bring some experiences to the classroom that your 18-22 year old counterparts won't.

Good luck on the exam and let us know how it goes! :)

Thanks for your kind words. I am far from being calm. Being a stay at home mom for more than 24 years has kept me out of the loop, so to speak. I am excited to try something new, but the whole test entrance thing is pretty scary. Ah well, nothing ventured nothing gained. Thanks again.

Cheryl

Cheryl, I am sure you will do fine. In fact, you will probably surprise yourself at how well you do. Sending prayers your way. Remain calm, and stay out of airplanes.;)

I'm 41 and went back to school last year. I, too, was scared and thought that I would be the only "old" person in the class. But it has been one of the best things I have ever done. Now, at this age, I know what I want to do and study, and therefore look forward to each class and learning something new. Good for you that you took this step! Take a deep breath, get a good night's sleep, eat well and you will do great tomorrow. I will be thinking of you and wish you the best of luck! Laura

As a college professor, let me also say good for you! I love having students in my classes who have lived a little (or a lot!) before coming to college. Those are the students who truly appreciate their education in ways that 18-year-olds simply can't. Good luck!

Cheryl,
Just want to add my good luck wishes! You'll be fine. In those situations, I try to remind myself that, even if the worst possible scenario occurs, you can always re-take the test. Stay calm, breathe, and do your best. That's all you can ever do.

Cathy :)

Congratulations and good luck! Just keep reminding yourself of all of the things you've done successfully in your life - you know this will be one more. :)

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great. Often, the fear and anticipation of an event is worse than the actual event (your test, in this case.) Just take deep breaths, believe in yourself, and kick some test butt!

Cheryl,
Were you here I'd kick in you in the pants and tell you to stop worrying. Of course it's normal, even good, to be a bit nervous and on your toes but you are not out of your element. Congrats to you to being a lifelong learner...and if you don't think the 18 year olds are nervous I've got news for you. I recall those days of SATs, ACTs...and the GREs. Blech! I also know I over stressed fr naught. Good luck.....you will do great!!
