Taebo question

Cathlete
Hello,

For those of you that are very familiar with Taebo, I am curious to know which newer Taebo videos compare to the "advanced" videos he first put out. I would like to find some on ebay, but don't know which would be best.

Thanks!
Lori

Taebo Get Ripped Advanced is the only comparable one I have found.

How do Cathe's kickboxing videos compare to advanced Taebo? I've never done any of Cathe's. I want one that's going to really make me sweat!

Cathe's are way better. Billy Blanks doesn't always emphasize good form and sometimes moves a super warp speed. He also will not do the same number of reps on each side. I think Cathe's are 10 times better. I have tried lots of Billy's over the years. I did kind of like his one titled Cardio Circuit, but it is only 30 minutes and is good for a lighter day. I have stopped doing kickbox altogether now as I just kept injuring myself.

Did you feel Cathe's gave you a very good workout though? I know what you mean about Billy sometimes doing more on one side than the other - that used to annoy me.

Hi Reese,

There are actually two Tae Bo Cardio Circuit workouts. One is 30 minutes, and the other is about 50 minutes. The 30 minute one is faster and more intense than the 50 minute one, but I would say they are both pretty good. I love Cathe's Kick, Punch & Crunch KB (KPC) workout. The DVD one has great pre-mixes too. I do like KPC much better than Kick Max.

As for your question about which Tae bo workouts are closest to the older taebo workouts. Like Mona said, really the Get Ripped series is the closest one or even better than the advanced series. But there are some great deals to be found on Tae Bo workouts, and if you really enjoy kickboxing, I have a few workouts I can suggest. I love Taebo Fat Blasting Cardio. They use the Billy Bands for a part of this workout, but you can get by with hand weights, or weighted gloves, and if you really want more intensity, you can add on ankle weights. Also the Elite Fat Blasting Cardio is pretty good. I used to be a Tae bo Junkie, and I have just about every tae bo workout, but for some reason, I have been into other workouts lately, and now I rarely do Tae Bo. I love Powerstrike kickboxing workouts too. Have you ever tried any of the Powerstrikes?

Hi Reese777:

I really LOVE Kick Punch & Crunch! You can watch a clip in the ShopCathe.com site... It is well organized, she breaks down the moves pretty well for a more Intermediate/Advanced workout and her cueing is right on! With the weighted gloves you are all set for a Killer Workout! it was one of the first Cathe DVD's I purchased because, like you, I did really well with TaeBo, but also like you, got tired of the constant uneven side reps and the fast movements and felt like I was flailing around this last round when I got back into fitness last year... Cathe's KPC and KickMax are both very good at making you sweat and leaving you feeling very worked! they have some great premixes on them as well. I haven't done KM as much as KCP but there are quite a few members here that really swear by Cathe's Kickboxing workouts, including me :) You can't go wrong with these in my opinion!

I have tried other instructors as well, and have not found one that I connect with as much as I do Cathe... I'm pretty much a Cathe-Exclusive girl now :)

Be careful on Ebay and make sure you are not getting bootleg copies and such... good luck with whatever you decide :)

No, I've never tried the Powerstrikes - who does those? Are the sweat inducing like the Taebo Advanced?

Powerstrikes are Ilaria Montagnani workouts. They used to be with Ilaria & Patricia Moreno. You can preview Powerstrike 4 & 5 on Collagevideo.com. The older Powerstrikes are only available on VHS.

Thanks Iris! These look like they are tough workouts! Are they a favorite of yours? I wish my body looked like hers...LOL

I just did Powerstrikes 5 today for the first time.It was a great workout - true traditional Kickboxing with upper and GREAT lower body kicks. I highly recommend this DVD. I LOVE Cathe but do not think the true Kickboxer gets enough from her workouts. They are Fun and great,BUT kickboxing is not her strong point - In my opinion.

ITA about the Get Ripped Advanced being comparable to the Lives. Of Billy's 'gadget workouts,' I like Rockin' Buns from the Amped series. It's a great lower body workout w/ about 33 min. of standing work, then another 10 min or so of floor work. You DON'T need the bar to do this workout. You can hold 2 lb dumbbells when doing squats etc. and ankle weights for leg raises. etc. I sweat buckets during the standing work. (This has a typical Billy warm up so if you want something more, you've been warned. :D )

Another possibility for more advanced Billy on dvd would be Ultimate Lower Body and Ultimate Butt (each one is around 45 min). They are compilation dvds taken from his Ripped, Advanced Lives and Advanced Total workouts. I think they are terrific!

I love how Billy used such a diverse cast in his early workouts, and that they were real people. You really felt like you were in a class. When he miscounts, I just pause the dvd and make it up on the lacking side. I know it's one of Billy's hallmarks, but the man doesn't look lopsided :p so I figure it all works out somehow...

Did you really get a good workout from it? I'm getting ready to order this one and another one...

Taebo Get Ripped Advanced is the only comparable one I have found.
Monica

I agree with Monica -- The Taebo Get Ripped Advanced is the only one comparable. I've tried several of his others and they are nothing in comparison. To me they were just a waste of money because they were too easy (in my opinion).

former Taebo-er

I used to be addicted to TaeBo! I have every single DVD and VHS and would do them all the time. But then I found Cathe. Her workouts are a hell of a lot harder and more intense. I hope she does more kickboxing in the future. Love KPC and Kick Max is also very good, if you are considering them!
