Tae Bo King's Wife Files for Separation

It was a marriage made in infomercial heaven. But - after a 33-year union - Tae Bo guru Billy Blanks's wife filed for legal separation Tuesday, citing irreconcilable differences.

According to the papers, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Gayle Blanks is seeking spousal support. She also asks that her husband - famous for his blend of martial arts and boxing - be responsible for legal fees.

The couple has an adult son, Billy Jr., and an adopted daughter, Shellie (who is featured prominently in the Tae Bo DVD series).

I know many on this board also enjoy Tae Bo. So sad to hear about this. I thought that Shellie is Gayle's biological daughter and Billy adopted her when she was very young. I hope they keep putting out good stuff together, I like both.

ETA: Since it is only a seperation, I truly hope they can work things out. I am still single and get a little discouraged seeing how many marriages fail now. My parents have been married many years, I hope to have an enduring marriage like theirs.
 
This is very sad indeed.

I've "been with Billy" for many years now, and I know they are a very spiritual family. This must be incredibly hard for them.
 
Gosh that's too bad.:( I'm grateful every day for my marriage.

That is so sad, I mean after 30 years you would think they could work it out?? I love Billy, he was my first at home workout!

I know he has gotten involved with in the world of boxing, as I see him ringside when my DH watches boxing on pay-per-view.
And doesn't Shelley have a new workout targeted to new moms?
 
Yes, Shellie has a workout for New Mom's in which she looks
awesome in. I guess sometimes people grow apart doesn't matter if
its 5 years or 30. I always think its odd when people together
that long can't make it work. Maybe Gene Simmons is on to something.
I often wonder why Shannon Tweed stayed with him. After watching
their show you can see genuine love for each other and for their
children. They seem very close. I guess Gene felt by marrying Shannon
he could end up divorced. He has said he never would be divorced.
I would think a small part of her misses being the bride.

I am so BUMMED to hear this! :( I love Billy (and Shelley)! I really hope they are able to work things out. My understanding from his bio is that Shelley is Gayle's biological daughter and that Billy adopted her when he married Gayle. Shelley was 2 at the time. So, I think People Mag. may have the details wrong on this. BTW, Billy and Gayle were high school sweethearts.

This is really a shock to me. TaeBo was my introduction to video fitness, and while I've moved on to Cathe, a piece of me feels terrible for the Blanks family.
 
I googled Gayle's name (requesting pictures) and I found a picture of her. Shellie looks a lot like her mother. I had just never seen a picture of his wife, so I was just curious. It is a sad thing -- to be married for that long!
