OK, so I know that I should let whichever body part I worked rest for 24 hrs. I did one of the GS UB workouts yesterday and today went swimming. Part of my workout today was just arms, so my question is: does that constitute working out my arms two days in a row? Does this question even make sense:eek: ?
 
Swimming does work the upper body, but I think it's fine to do it the day after an upper body weight workout. It may even help work out some DOMS. If you were to add more resistance to swimming somehow, it might get into the area of 'working the upper body out two days in a row,' but I don't think you have to worry about regular swimming. It would be like doing step aerobics the day after a lower body exercise: you will feel it in the lower body, but you don't have to avoid it.

YMMV, and some people do need more recovery than others. If it feels okay to you, then I say go ahead and do it. (I see you already did it! So you must not have had too much problem with it.)

(FYI: you should let body parts rest for 48 hours...a day off in between, not 24 hours...working out the next day.)
 
I swim 3-4 days a week. I often swim in the afternoon after lifting in the morning, and swim multiple days in a row. I do notice that the fatigue in weight lifting can affect my speed, but swimming also helps loosen up DOMS.
 
Thanks. And Kathryn, thanks for the clarification, I guess I did mean resting 48 hours. Yea, I wouldn't dream of lifting only 24 hrs. later...and if I did I'm sure my body would revolt!

I usually only work 1 or 2 bodyparts/day for strength training so on the days I am scheduled to swim, or the day after, I try to work avoid working my shoulders or back which seem to get the most focus during swimming. I like to do a swim workout on the day after I work my legs out really hard, it totally helps me w/ the DOMS.

On the days that I swim, I usually pair it up with w/either either chest or tri or bi workouts.
