Sweating - how much is too much??? Overheating - how hot is too hot???

Hi Ladies!

I am 21 weeks pregnant with dd #2 and still work out on a daily basis. Although I've always been one to sweat pretty quickly, my clothes are absolutely soaked at the end of the 45-minute workout! How much is too much? Also, do any of you monitor your body temperature whiel working out? Now that I'm past trimester 1, I'm not as worried about high temps, but I obviously dont want to do any harm to my dd. With all of you serious athletes out there, what are your thoughts? What are your rules of thumb, etc?

Thank you for the advice!!!
Jen

Hi, I would make sure to have lightweight clothes and drink plenty but I would go more by how you feel, than how much you sweat. I would cut back if I felt lightheaded/dizzy and my heart was in its anaerobic zone.

HI - thanks for the reply! Normally I work out in the early a.m. before I get ready for work, so I haven't really had a lot of fluids yet (avoiding the sloshy-stomach!). I haven't been feeling dizzy or lightheaded, so I figure all is okay. I haven't been good about wearing my heart rate monitor either. Maybe I should, but I find that although the heart rate gets a lot higher faster than while non-pregnant, I still feel really good while working out. Just a little paranoid, I guess.
Have a great day,
Jennifer :)

Jen, my first daughter was due in sept. so I exercised through the hot summer. I wore just shorts and a sports bra but still sweat but I knew I felt ok and she was born very healthy. I never used a heartrate monitor.

Sweating is a sign that your body is effectively getting rid of heat - which is a good thing!!

I do have one idea that may help - in one of Charlene Pricket's videos she reccommends using an electric fan to help cool you off - the air movement helps the sweat "do it's job". (She actually says that if you have a choice between air conditioning and a fan, to use a fan because of the air circulation). This will help with overheating if you workout indoors, but obviously if you run/walk outdoors.
