How come these people never complain that they are hungry??? I would be starving!
Do you think they feed them the bare essentials just to keep their minds and bodies fuctioning normally? And water of course.I would think it would be quit dangerous to starve for 30 days.According to the show they only eat when they win a challenge.
There is no doubt that they are hungry b/c they slim down but they must have something there to eat.

Hey Lori.http://www.smileys.ws/smls/cool/00000001.gif[/img]

I personally think that there are lots of things that these folks get "behind the scenes" that we don't know about and food could very well be one of them!

Check out the women....not one has nasty unplucked eyebrows, or unshaven legs or an overgrown bikini line (sorry for the visual! LOL) or anything! I think these folks are subject to "make up" just like anyone on any other tv show...

I enjoy the show...don't get me wrong...I just don't think it's 100% legit.

TTFN! http://www.smileys.ws/smls/cheeky/00000004.gif[/img]

hahahaha! I didn't even think about the hair thing! You have a very good point though. They must get something. Can you imagine how bad they must smell if they didn't shower for 30 days.I know they have the crocidile pool there but I wouldn't dare get into that.
I just don't think that my brain would work very well or my body when doing these challenges.
I enjoy the show to but I am not as crazy as my SIL when it comes to her reality t.v shows! I can't even call her on Thursday night.
Lori:)

They are hungry. That is all they talked about on the show tonight. Look at the girls armpits. They definitely are not shaving there. I know one season I saw the girls "shaving" their legs with sharp shells. Plus, not trying to be too graphic, but some do not have the bikini line problem. I, for one, would be wearing a bathing suit such as Lydia's if I were there. And they do stink. Have you never heard Jeff's comments? He has told them that they stink before. And look at their hair. It is greasy from the roots to the ends.

I know at the reunion after one of the seasons, one guy made the comment that he went on the show thinking it was not real. He believed that they would give them food when the camaras off. He said they got nothing. I also remember, not sure how to spell her name, Jeri (the one no one liked) making the comment that she actually was flirting with a camara guy for food. It did not work.

I'm definitely not saying they don't get anything because I have no way knowing, but they can't be getting much as some of them have lost like 20-30 pounds in just 30 days.

Oh, one more thing. I wear jeans a lot, so I don't shave my legs weekly. But when I wear shorts you really would not notice it unless the light hits my legs just right. It is very light colored.

Not to make the visual any worse, but what about that time of the month for the women? I tend to think all of that stuff falls under "make-up." I mean, would they would lose viewers if women had hairy armpits or legs. Nobody ever complains about PMS.

Although, I don't think they get food off camera. They do have to hunt/fish for their meals. They get very skinny by the end of the show. And I think they win rice, grains or seasonings with challenges, that is if they don't start out with it first.

Food, water and fire have been issues on past Surviors shows that it's just not "new news" to repeat the same old drama over and over again.

All very good points and I am not about to aruge with any survivor fanatics.Im just saying that I for one...would be lying on the ground unable to move or even think straight if I did not have a little bit of food or water. Its one thing to be hungry but it is another thing to be starving.I was just thinking that they must have something when cameras are off.I am not saying big meals b/c by looking at them you know they are hungry but I would still be hungry and losing weight if someone was only giving me 8oz of water and a slice of toast a day.
And maybe they aren't getting anything.I don't know, no one knows. It was just a thought thats all.

The thing that I can't understand is the people who go on Survivor and they are stick thin! Like the sports caster woman (can't think of her name) you could see her ribs and hip bones on the first day! Now she's disgusting to look at. I couldn't belive that she chose to do the challenge rather than eat all that food last night. I was yelling at the t.v., "no, make her eat! Please!". I know if I were chosen for Survivor, I would pack on the pounds - fat and muscle.

As for the hair, don't you think they get waxed before they leave? Again, something I would do even though it wouldn't last the entire time. Last season they were plucking each others eyebrows with their finger nails x(

"As for the hair, don't you think they get waxed before they leave?"

*************************

I'm sure that they did but the hair will undoubtedly be growing back in before the show is over if they last a while, no? I know I have been waxing my eyebrows for YEARS and the hair still starts to grow back with in a week!

I don't know...I just think lots of it is BS...and not just with Survivor but with lots of reality tv...JMO though.:)

"Im just saying that I for one...would be lying on the ground unable to move or even think straight if I did not have a little bit of food or water. Its one thing to be hungry but it is another thing to be starving"

I agree. :) I don't know how they are even capable of attempting some of the challenges if they are TRULY starving. I know I couldn't do it. NO WAY! Realistically, I would expect some of the folks to be passing out during a challenge if they are really that deprived of food/water...

I do know that they are given access to tampons and any prescription medications that they take.

I'd wax my entire body if I were going on Survivor. It usually lasts 6 weeks for me, and the show covers 38 days, I think. I noticed Cindy had some armpit hair last night. She's fair, so it didn't show very much.

They were all looking pretty gross last night. They all seemed to be scratching at their dirty heads.

I wouldn't last two days on that show.

I know I wouldn't last 2 days. Jarvis (I think he was on the first Survivor) said that it took him months to get his digestive system back to being normal. After eating rice all that time he said everything he ate (after the show) went right through him. I've wondered how these people keep from getting sick. After going several days only eating grains and plants then all of a sudden they win BBQ chicken, fruit, potato salad etc... It's got to be hard on their system I would think.

Also, the challenge on last weeks show where they were wrapped up in these bands (I didn't get to see the whole challenge)suppossedly took 2 hours to film. So you know there's alot that is cut out.

I was sorry to see Brandon go. I was hoping Jamie was out.

I haven't kept up with this season, but on previous seasons, the women did get very hairy after a while. Maybe this group learned to wax right before going on the trip? Or brought some hair removal device as their luxury item.

Aren't they eating cocoanut? And fish/seafood that they catch? And maybe insects? The Guatemalan jungle also must have bananas, mangos, etc.

And remember, it SEEMS like they are spending more time there than they are because they are only there for, what, a little over 30 days, and we see the episodes spaced out so that, for us, it takes 3 months or so to see their entire stay.

They get very skinny by
>the end of the show.

That's why I was surprised to see that brunette woman who started out really skinny (looks like 10% body fat). She has NOTHING to lose. How stupid is that? I know that some contestants put on weight before the show so they have some extra to spare.

Yes, SHE's the one I'm refering to (in my post below--I didn't read yours before posting). I didn't watch the show last night, but I can't BELIEVE she wouldn't take the opportunity to eat (unless she's anorexic? She started out stick-thin to begin with, as you say). And from the beginning, she's been wearing low-cut shorts and a tiny bikini top, as if she thinks she's good to look at? (Sure, it's ot there, but most natives would wear clothes that covers more because of the insects, and because that gives the body a bit of shade).

Oh, and some of the stuff they get for food rewards: very rich, sometimes processed food (wouldn't you think chocolate cake would not digest well if you're not used to it?) All that crap that's provided by sponsors (one year, one of the fast-food chains must have been a sponsor, because some of the food rewards were "brand-name" french fries, hamburgers, sodas, all sorts of things that I think wouldn't stay down well.

"Reality" TV is definitely manupulated. I've read that they even reshoot some parts of challenges (sometimes using stand-ins for long shots) so they get a more dramatic look. And they obviously cut a lot during challenges to just show the most dramatic parts, or to make it look even more intense than it is. (If they didn't, the show would be on 24/7 for 38 days!)

I used to work for a dentist whose wife is Gary Hoogebooms sister and from what little I have heard they don't get any food, Gary supposedly said that he went 3 days without eating. Other than that I haven't heard much else since I no longer work for his brother inlaw.
