SUNDAY 5/23

Hi everyone,

I did my 7K fun race today. The weather was OK. The race was badly organised though. People were looking for their starting line as the marathoners started somewhere else then the 7, 14 and 21K and the 5K and kids run had their own starting line. There were no 1K markers for the shorter distances. Only 5K markers for the marathoners.

Anyway, I started way back in the field but I went out too fast again. There was this guy who ran with a baby jogger :) So cool. I tried to go in a fast pace but one that I could keep up for the whole 7K. I tried to get closer to someone running ahead of me, but I couldn't do it. Well I focused on these blue shorts and white tee and started talking to myself: come to mama, I am reeling you in baby, come here I won't hurt you I just want you to come to me, etc.}( . And suddenly she came closer and closer. Once I passed her I said to myself: now push, push her away. Where is victim no. 2? I focused on these black shorts and white tee and I did it again. Until finally there was a very big hole between me and my last victim with an orange tee. I managed to get closer, but couldn't get close enough.

I finished in 46:39min. Nowhere near the 45 minutes I had as a goal, but way better then the 52:24 I ran last Monday for a 7.5K. I am pleased with myself. Can you tell:) ??

Dutchie....do I detect a competitive nature??..:D you did great! It does take a few races to get to the point where you don't start out to fast. In a longer distance that can really hurt you. I really liked your description of the run with all the "victims", I will remember that ;-) You should be very happy with your time, you were very close to the goal. Thanks for sharing...I am doing a 12-14 mile run with a few friends today. I don't know if you read yesterdays workout thread but I got my P90X!..wow...looks very intense...have a great day!...:)...Carole

Hi Dutchie: Sounds like a really good run!! It's wonderful how you embraced the challenge with determination and humour, great job!!! :7
I love the way a run can become an unfolding drama and you described it so well I could just picture it. Wouldn't life be funny if we had 'thought bubbles' like in the comic strips. Good thing we don't, but it would be very amusing at times.

Take Care

Thank you all:) .

I had one victim who wore a bottle at her back... I imagined that I lassood (sp?) a rope around it and pulled myself in :) That one made me smile while running:) Am smiling remembering it.

I'm not really competitive, I think. But when I set myself a goal I think is realistic, I try to achieve it the best I can. Even if I don't make my goal, simply trying makes me do better.

Carole, enjoy your run. Mari hasn't received the P90X yet, so I'm afraid I have to wait another few weeks before I can join the fun:)

Dutchie, congrats on your race. I certainly remember from my running years the "catch up to the next pants" thing!:)

Feeling better today I did 40 min cardio w/ 10 min HIIT. After that P90X time, today I did Core Synergistic.

Carole, when you start doing your P90X rotation will you add some more to the daily workouts? Which rotation are you planning to do?

Mari, I am starting tomorrow...I need to read a bit more on the rotations but will probably start on the Classic and maybe go to the Doubles after 4 weeks. On the days of Plyo, Yoga and Kenpo I might still do some lifting and Cathe abs...not sure yet. I still will run 3 days a week also. It'll be interesting seeing how the 1st 3 weeks go. I know I've lost a little weight with my diet change which is a good start!...:)...Carole
