Hi there:
Like many others, I am in a complete funk when it comes to working out lately. So, I've decided that I have to do/try something new or set some kind of a goal I can work toward achieving that is concrete. Any suggestions on a workout or training regimen that got you out of a workout funk? I really think something fun and different may do the trick, but I haven't been able to find anything yet, so I'm hoping that some of you may have some great suggestions for me. :)

One thing...it can't be anything expensive...like so many others, I have very little extra money these days.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer!!

Hi Alicia,

This might not be for you but last year when I was going through some difficulties I made an agreement with my BIL to run our local Rose City 10K in April. I made the agreement in October with the goal of both a 5K in February and the 10K in April. I felt I needed a challenge and I was hoping that it would get me out of my funk (a close aunt passed away in July and I end a relationship). I started out slowly doing run/walk intervals. It really did the trick and I completed both goals and am training for a 1/2 marathon in December. I'm not the fastest runner by any means but I'm having a blast racing and I have managed to get a couple of medals (in very small races) along the way. I'm going through another challenging year as my dad is suffering with dementia so running has been a godsend. It doesn't cost a thing if you can run outside. :D

I don't know where you live but there are tons of workouts you can do outside in a park. My friend and I would bring our jump ropes, kettlebells and med balls and make up workouts. We would also use picnic benches (for tricep dips and step ups) and incorporate sprinting in these workouts. I got some great ideas on the affiliate page at www.crossfit.com. If you don't have the equipment that they suggest you can substitute another exercise. I actually kept track of all the workouts we did, typed them up and filed them in a binder for future use.
