I need the creative assistance of the educated crowd here --

I'm having to stop doing step work for a while because of my $&*#& right knee, which has gotten inflamed again. My conservative orthopedist wants to see what happens to the inflammation if I do no impact or step-style load-bearing work for 60 days and then work back into it. (I could save us both the time and trouble because I've done that exact regimen already, but this is a different doctor...).

I am allowed to walk on my treadmill at a pretty brisk pace, and to make it more interesting I'm going to make a couple of 45-minute tapes to listen to.

So y'all -- I need motivating suggestions for great tunes that are the right tempo for walking at about 3.8 - 4.0 mph. (My son's a Napster member so at least for the time being I think he can download just about anything for me.

And while Napster is still up and running (no pun intended) I'm going to get Alex to make me a running tape, too -- for my FUTURE use only, I promise. So what are your favorite tunes for running? (Not for a fast runner -- even when my knees are normal I am not a speedy runner and my best is maybe a 11-minute mile).

Thanks ladies and gents!

HoneyBunch...

...may be able to help you. She is the Queen of Music when it comes to beats per minute! HB, you out there?

I use tapes from Sports Music......

....I have 20 or 30 of them for walking about a 12-13 minute miles. They have lots of different tapes in different tempos, from what you could call a "beginner" tempo to full out race walking. The fastest tape is 175 beats per minutes, (William Tell Overture tempo)the ones I use.. These tapes are made specifically for walking and running, and run about $12.00 per tapes, except when they run a $10.00 sale.

I COULD NOT walk without them, no kidding!!!!! They have rock n' roll, classical, country, and a bunch of other types of music. They are THE BEST, in my humble opinion.

Take that, for what it's worth. Web site is sportsmusic.com

One More Thing Kathy!

I forgot that they also have walking, jogging & cardio cassettes at Sam's Club and B.J.'s. They are by Shape Fitness Music & they sell for $8.99. They have different ones depending on what type of cardio you are involved in~~The one I have is called "Cardio 3" and it is designed for a stepper, rowing, biking or cross conditioning. The tapes are set so many beats per minute for whatever activity you choose. I have never used my tape yet, but I will give it a try some time this week & let you know what I think. Good Luck!!

Thanks Debbie & HoneyB!

You know, I think I saw either some Shape Fitness or SportsMusic tapes on e-Bay but didn't know what they were. I'll check it out -- great idea, y'all.

I must confess, though, that I cannot imagine walking to the William Tell Overture -- I think I'd be so tempted to break into a trot!

And another thing about that particular tune -- my cell phone plays it (no joke) and it's the music that I've assigned to my kids' phone line. So I will forever associate da-da-dum-da-da-dum-da-da-dum-dum-dum with my boys!
