Suggestions for modifications

I have done Imax 2 twice now and I really like it, even though I have the pina colada song in my head for days :) . I can do most of the moves that Cathe does, but the plie jacks, plyo jacks, and airborne jacks are a little much for my lungs and knees right now. I would like to modify these moves, but don't really know how. Does anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate any feedback.

TIA,

Karin

How about doing plyo squats? Yes, they are plyos, but you don't have to jump high on them (and if you want a totally non-impact workout, I wouldn't choose any of the IMAXes!). I find plyo squats (stand with feet about shoulder-width apart, lower down into squat position, then jump up--feet only have to leave ground about 1 inch, or not at all, if you want to just go to tip-toes). Land softly.

I find that not moving the feet in and out (as with jacks) and not trying to jump as high as you can makes the move much safer (I find Tony Horton's brand of plyometrics both effective and more tolerable physically than some other plyo moves). ALso, instead of focusing on 'getting as high as you can" if you focus on 'landing as softly as you can,'it is both less stressful for the knees, and actually can work the muscle more (as it works in deceleration or 'putting on the brakes").

Thanks for the suggestions Kathryn. I really like thesuggestion about trying to land softly instead of jump higher. I really appreciate it. I am going to try these modifications the next time I do an Imax.
