I need all the help I can get! I am quite addicted to sugar, like chocolate :) and donuts }(

My fitness level has increased a lot, i'm still a beginner to intermediate. and i'm working out 6 days a week with my 7th day being pilates or rest. i have seen a change in my body shape, but not my weight. And i know it because i can't kick this sugar habit!

So please, are there any suggestions as to how i can kick this? i've tried cold turkey, and well...let's just say i do good for a couple days and then WHAM! i see sugary goodness and down it goes!

Please help!

Maddie, I took myself off of sugar back in October. My downfall was chocolate (snickers). My problem was really in the afternoons I would get this craving that I always gave in to. Anyway, I started eating brown rice with my lunch and I didn't get the cravings. After I got pass the first 3 days I didn't have any problems. Now, I can have a piece of pie or something and not want more. I know that sounds very simplistic and you're problem may be worse then mine, but that's what worked for me!

Also, I now find it very easy to resist sugar and when I have had a bite of a candy bar it tastes way too sweet to me so generally don't finish it!

Hello, my name is Trish...and I'm a sugar addict.

The most annoying part for me is that I'll think I'll just have a little - but a little is never enough. Why couldn't healthy foods have that effect on us? I really don't have a problem with it showing on me much - my workouts must adequately compensate for my dietary indiscretions but I sure don't feel my best.

I did have a plan that worked for me before Christmas. I would eat sweets only on the weekends and during TOM. It seemed I could keep myself in control then and even on the weekends I maintained moderation. I lost it somewhere in Jan. This time of year is always difficult for me. I always get excessive.

There is a sugar addicts site on the internet but I couldn't get into it because although I want to control my sweet intake I do not want to live without sugar for my whole life. It might be helpful to you though - I'll try to find it for you.

So I know I haven't been much help I want you to know I understand.:-( Maybe we should try to keep each other accountable...although I really don't want to...

Trish

I have been there. I tried cold turkey and then succombed to my love for peach and raspberry iced tea. I was in heaven when I came back. Then I went to diet sweetened. I stayed there for a long time, then finally decided that these were not as good so it was easier to eliminate the diet stuff and not have any. This worked for me, but may not be for everyone.

The only thing that helped me was Atkins. I know it's basically cold turkey....but I really found after a week I stopped thinking constantly about candy and cookies. It's been a year and I've maintained my 25-30 pound loss. Now that I'm at goal, I do get to enjoy things a little more once in awhile. The key is getting back on the plan right away. Good luck! I know how hard it is.

Now if I could just find a way to kick the Diet Mountain Dew addiction.........
