I have some issues with my wrists. I was doing push-ups and almost went to a hand specialist because I thought I had carpal tunnel. I had pain and numbness. I stopped doing anything that put pressure on my wrists and it has completely gone away. I am afraid to do them again, but I have noticed there are a lot of push-ups in STS. Anything I can do instead of them????

Is it uncomfortable for you to do push-ups on a wall? Or you can try holding onto dumbells or push-up handles, if you haven't tried that yet.

I also have a hard time with pushups and dips! I do like Erin suggests and do them against the wall, standing about 1-2 feet away and lean forward so hands are shoulder high when my nose is about to touch the wall... and that seems to reduce the wrist stress, and I also have a set of floor handles, but sometimes those seem a little unstable. Target carries some on a round base that swivel, but they are sorta expensive, so doubt I'll do that... I also find that if you go up on your fingers, rather than having the palm completely on the floor, my wrists also feel a bit less stressed, but it does get a little tough on the fingers eventually... I just do what I can and know that I will never be a Pushup Queen! ;)

As for the dips, Cathe says you can do the overhead tricept dumbbell lifts in lieu of the dips... I HATE those dips and have never been able to do them... hard on the elbows for me... So I just grab a weight whenever Cathe does these :)

Hope that helps some :)

I fractured my wrist last June, had two surgeries and am now completely healed, but I still can't do pushups and dips like I used to. Even doing some stretches like downward facing dog cause pain in the top of my hand. I've been doing wall pushups with my hand in a fist and also dips with fists seems to work for me. The pain is gradually getting better and I'm hoping to some day be able to put pressure on my hand again. I'm trying not to be too bummed about it.
