sty remedy

MAYNARDSMOM

Cathlete
Does anyone have a home remedy they have used for a sty? My 1st one - on the inside of the lower lid. Usually DH gets them more on the outside part.
I just checked for remedies on earthclinic.com & became skeptical when the last one was urine - GROSS!!!!
The best sounding ones were tea, milk or a potato. I'll pass on the urine thanks.

Yes!

According to Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide:

"Use a warm water compress several times a day until the stye opens on its own (do not squeeze it). Once it has opened, wash your eyelid thoroughly to prevent the bacteria from spreading.

If you are prone to styes, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics in tablet or ointment to treat an infection and normalize the secretions of your oil glands."

It's a bacterial infection in the root (follicle) of the eyelash.

Nothing about urine.

Hope this helps!

I have had a few stys and hot compresses work everytime. Its not istant, but give it a day or two and it will work.

I once had one that I called a clinic about: they recommended both the hot compress and washing the eye area with baby shampoo (the 'no-tears' type). It cleared up pretty quickly.

I work for OCuSOFT. We sell lid scrubs and one of them is OCuSOFT Lid Scrub Plus - it is antibacterial and comes in a foam or pre-moistened pad. You simply wipe your lash margin with it (it is not an actual scrub process - very, very gentle) and you would want to use the warm compress, as mentioned. You can actually wipe the Plus on at night and not rinse it off - it will continue to kill bacteria as you sleep. There is no burning with the product either. You can buy it at most drug store/pharmacies and a number of discount and retail chain stores. All the best to you -
