Stupid cooking question

Okay, help me out ladies or gents. So we have a gas stove. Can I use toothpicks to hold chicken cutlets together in the oven? There is a recipe I have where you stuff chicken breasts and roll them up to bake in the oven. I have this weird fear that it would catch fire or something. Is this a no no? If it is, what can you use? Thanks for helping the cooking challenged ;)

I can get away without having to use toothpicks if I pound the raw chicken before stuffing. I put the chicken between two layers of plastic wrap and pound it thinner with a rubber mallet.

LOL! This is a meal I'm organizing for next week. It is chicken breasts stuffed with feta & sundried tomato. Yummers.

You know what I heard on the Foodnetwork (I am a foodie junkie, I love my Paula Deen!)
Anyway, if you do not want your skewers or toothpicks in your case to get singed or burn, soak them for a bit in a little salt water! And then use them. This could be an outdoor grilling tip only, I don't quite remember, but I think it would still apply inside too?

Another option that may work better (sometimes I have a hard time "threading" the toothpicks) is to use a 100% cotton string and tie them a little just to hold them together.

Keeps you from having to find the toothpicks when they are cooked.

Have fun ! :)

Thanks so much ladies! Now who is coming over to cook for me? ;)
