Stuck and tired of being stuck

I need some motivation. I am a lifetime weight watcher member for about 4 years now (have kept off 40 lbs) and about 1 1/2 ago I really fell off the wagon and gained 12lbs back and have not been able to get it off. I have not been 100% faithfull to the program or my workouts. I do good for about 2 weeks and then I start getting sloppy (the weekends are the hardest time for me). I am currently at 140 and would like to be at 128. I'm only 5ft and am 30 yrs old. If anyone has any tips please help.

This suggestion might sound stupid...

I have to say first that I truthfully have never been overweight, or struggled to lose weight. But I can say that I have struggled with an eating disorder (specifically starving myself for weeks and then bingeing out of control).

What has helped me avoid my binges and keep motivated to feed my body HEALTHFULLY is to just sometimes put on one of Cathe's DVD's and just WATCH them - just for like 5 or 10 minutes. When I see how beautiful, energetic, and toned Cathe and crew look, it is very motivating for me and stops me dead in my tracks from eating something like a whole box of cookies that I certainly would regret later. Also, it might help just to log on to this forum for moral support! I know my situation is not exactly the same as yours, but this little trick has helped me in the past. Good luck with everything!

I have never been fat either, but have been working to stay thin for years. It isn't easy. If it was, everyone would look wonderful. Something inside you has to want to be fit and lose the fat more than you want to eat the whatever-it-is-you-know-you-shouldn't-eat. Distract yourself with a phone call, shower, walk, cup of tea. Close your eyes and breathe and calm yourself. People can give you ideas all day, and some will help, but the motivation to exercise and eat clean cannot be "given".

Don't go hungry! Fill up with good healthy food in reasonable quantities. Use psyllium in water, lots of veggies, popcorn. Don't keep really tempting food around. You can do it. You really can. You just have to decide and then be positive with yourself and change your behavior.

Hi KimDW!

I have problems with motivation, too. What I did for myself to help get moving was to put together a photo journal. I collected pictures of myself when I was thin through to when I was at my all time heaviest. I bought an inexpensive journal, taped the pictures on a page and made notes of how I felt at that particular time. Pictures always take you back to that time so remembering is pretty easy. It's fun to add pictures to your journal to track progress.

Eating healthy and working out shouldn't be just to look good. There are so many more benefits, i.e., sweeping the patio and not feeling like my back muscles are going into spasms, being able to put on shoes and socks easier because my belly isn't in the way and I'm much more flexible in the hips, etc. Being able to function in an everyday way is important. Looking good is the bonus.

Ask yourself how did you feel when you were following your program as opposed to when you are not following your program. Tune into yourself and you'll find the motivation.

I've started and re-started so many times it's not funny! I've finally learned what makes me tick! I'm 46 and want to preserve my muscles and bones!

Good luck to you, keep coming back here, you'll find a lot of support and encouragement and don't stress!

Cheers!

I hate, hate, hate the idea of dieting, so when I started working with a dietician (doctor's idea :-( ), she recommended one change at a time. The most powerful one has been to eat 6-8 servings of fruits or vegetables a day. I can smother them in as much cheese sauce as I want, I just have to eat them! My current challenge is to get 1200 mg. of calcium every day, and she'll be phoning me in two weeks to see how I'm doing.

Perhaps choose ONE goal to work on for a month? Maybe some of the ones in the clean eating rotation from the Ya Ya's site would give you ideas, or something from Prevention?

RE: Stuck and tired of being stuck - thanks

Thanks to those that answered my post. I think that I am going to try to focus on one goal at a time (like the fruit and vegetable thing) and also remember what I felt like when I was a good girl and following the program along and start going to my monthly meetings again. I think my problem is that because I feel so much better now that I've lost 40 pounds those last 10 pounds are just kind of on the back burner. I'm obviously healthier and look better so I tend to get comfortable with being this weight. I need to find something that will motivate me as much as I was when I'd first started. I think I'm going to find something that I really want to buy and make a rule that I can't buy it until I lose this weight. Is that bad? I know it sounds really materialistic but maybe it will work. Thanks again for the advise. :)

Kim~I don't think it's bad at all. Rewarding yourself when you make goal is a great idea. Good Luck and keep us posted. Can't wait to hear what you bought yourself! ;-)

Oh I'm all about the rewards system! But I always make it food, not good. Anyway, another idea that I actually got from the Rock during an interview is to eat very healthy during hte week and let it slide a bit on the weekends. I'm sure he doesn't bing like we would like to sometimes, so don't do that. But treat yourself to a doughnut, or have a slice of pizza, that kind of thing. At least you have somethign to look foward to. That will be what I am planning on doing. AT least that is what I'm doing this week, I hope it works!

Good luck!
Kathy
