Do you think STS is Cathe's version of P90X?

Of course the programs are very different, but I do see a couple of similarities: heavy weight work, each takes about three months to complete, etc.

I'm not implying that Cathe is copying anything or that P90X is better than the other because P90X came out first.

Just a thought. And a little one at that. :)

I think it's somewhat like it but different as well. Here's what I see:

1. For each cycle, Cathe does 4 weeks before a recovery week. Tony does 3. The recovery weeks seem to be the same except that Tony has actual workouts whereas Cathe is letting you choose your own. I don't know if Cathe mentioned doing a total body workout (like Core Syn) during the recovery week. Core Syn wasn't exactly a relaxing workout but it is surely one of my favorite workouts. Tony has the recovery week planned out but Cathe is letting you choose your own workouts.

2. With P90X, you choose your rotation - Lean, Classic or Doubles depending on your goals. With STS, Cathe has it chosen for you - first cycle is endurance, second is hypertrophy and third is strength. I think Cathe's taking it one step further where in Mesocycle 3, she only does 6-8 reps which is for mighty heavy lifting. In Slow & Heavy she does 8.

3. Cathe is including an ab DVD wit 6 workouts whereas with P90X you only get Ab Ripper X. I'm glad Cathe is including a variety although Tony just came out with the plus workouts and Abs/Core Plus is one of the best core workouts I've ever done with new moves and a nice variety of everything (hanging, sitting, lying and standing).

4. I think they are both well planned out systems and I think you can make both of them work for you.

Well, I see your point, but I think the difference are big, too.

P90X uses the same basic types of exercises through the entire series (push ups, pull ups and heavy weights). It's very heavy on upperbody, fairly light on lower body (the Legs and Back workout is great, but it's not heavy weights).

With Cathe you start with Muscle Endurance and end up with heavy weights - both upper and lower body. It actually sounds more logical to me (and I LOVE P90X).

I would almost say that the ideal rotation would be Cathe's to really build the strength followed by Tony's to maintain the strength and define a little more. But, I am seriously speculating and could be totally way off base.

The only similarities that I see are that it is heavy weight work and they both are based on the periodization method other than that I think they will be completely different.
For one Cathe will actually be fun and not have the total dread factor that I have come to know so well with P90X. I don't have to commit 6 DAYS A WEEK!!!! if I don't want to which is especially nice considering I do have a life and I don't want to feel guilty just because I wasn't able to get in over an hour and thirty minutes of boring repetitive yogaX.
Yeah this is going to be totally different it will be fun, super effective, new, refreshing, and oh yeah did I mention fun. So in essence this is going to be everything that I thought P90X was going to be but wasn't.
I am ready!

Hey! It's February 1st! Do you think Cathe and crew will start filming today!? }(

A girl can dream, can't she? ;)
