--->STS 6 month alumni<---***Week of July 4th***

Good morning!
Hope you are all having a great holiday. Kim, I know yours was officially the 1st but I am sure you have had a great weekend.

Not too much going on around here. Lots of rain so no cooking out unless we can sneak it in between showers.:p

Have a great day!

Hi Everyone! We had a great (but kinda cold, kinda drizzly) time. We got home last night around dinner and I tried all night to get on the forums here but they were apparently down! Anyway, have more to tell you but I got DH lined up to help me do some cleaning in our office and he's ready to help so I need to do that first! :D

Hope everyone is good and I'll get back a little later when I have more time!

IT'S JULY - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT????

I guess I am the only one without anything to do this weekend...lol! We did go to a nearby lake last night with a few friends and did some night swimming. Around here it is almost too hot to be out during the day! The weather is a little better this week than last though.
Today all we are doing is lunch with friends then the grocery store and then home. Nothing else planned.
I still have not worked out. I am still feeling a little soreness in my lower back esp. when I set on anything hard . Kind of like a compressed feeling. I am hoping to get this over with any day now!!!

Hope you all have had a fantastic holiday weekend!

I crashed all weekend...LOL! Feeling better now, just did my workout (another ballet that I have lots of room for improvement on:eek:) and just did the menupland and shopping list for the week. So now I gotta hit the shower and the family will join me for shopping, as we are planning on trying out the organic burger bar in Whole Foods for lunch....;)
I couln't get on last night or this morning as well, but I'm glad to see the webiste is back up now....

This week I have to make a batch of Fondant for experimenting for the cake decorations, I hope it works! DD's party is going to be on the 17th so I need to get everything I need in order... I have all the craft items, now on to the cake... I have to think about what flavor to make it. DD loves strawberry, Anyone ever heard of a strawberry cake? I guess I can google it...;)

Glad to see the sight is up too...I had problems this morning but I thought it was just me!. Jo I think we were posting at the same time earlier.

DH and I have totally wasted this weekend away! I feel like a big blobby cow since I am about to start and I have not worked out in what feels like forever. The only productive thing I did today was wash the dogs and my boy dog still smells...Like stinky dog!LOL I guess that must be a boy thing cause my girl dog smells fresh as a daisy. DH came out at one point and said "Yep he still smells"...and he was 20 ft. away! lol Poor thing, I feel like he suffered through a bath for nothing. They are good about standing there but they both look miserable until its over and then they just go crazy!

I am getting up in the morning and hoping I might be able to do disc 3 legs. I am hoping that as long as I am using low weight that I will be ok but first sign of anything bad and I am going to go back to yoga. For right now I am not writing out a schedule until I know what I am going to be able to do but I am hoping I will get back to something more normal!

Cendrine-I have definitely heard of strawberry cake and I am sure if you google it you are going to find a lot of recipes. Its funny, I went in to look at a bunch of my cookbooks to see if I could find a recipe and I could not find one. I really thought in one of my southern or old cookbooks there would be something, but not one...Now I am curious!

Jo and Kim, I can not wait to hear all about your weekends!

Off to do more nothing! lol

Back from the weekend. :DWhat can I say there were thunderstorms, windstorms and hot weather. (okay so 30 is hot by California standards). We swam, waterskiied, built a dock, had bonfires, etc. The 4 oldest kids slept in the camper but mostly they stayed up late and were over tired. The kids burned their schoolwork in the bonfire pit.:rolleyes:Everyone got along pretty much but my one sister is just so grumpy but for the most part we are able to not let it bother us. I yelled at her once:eek: because she is just rude to everyone and she seemed a bit embarrassed and was better after that. She just has a negative way about her and I don't think she always realizes how her comments affect people.

The black flies and mosquitoes were terrible. I'm itchy all over! Last night I took some Benadryl to help with the itch and that stuff just knocked me out! DS also had some and we both fell asleep on the couch. Even this morning I still felt drugged, I forgot to take my glasses to work(and so only had prescription sunglasses) and I accidentally took DH's keys to work so he had to take the bus to work:eek::eek: My goodness that is strong stuff.

Rachael I had to laugh at the goth reference. I can't imagine you like that. Are you still friends with people from high school? When is the reunion?
That's too bad about your back! I think a good break is a wonderful idea. I think I'll take one after Insanity.

Cendrien Congratulations on surviving the week!!!! What a busy week. Did your dd enjoy her time as well? I have to say that it really wasn't fair for ds not to get a turn at the catalpult. You would think that something fun like that they could make the time for everyone to try once. I'm sure he was really disappointed. How's the cake experimenting going?

Jo. So you're on holidays???You make your resort nights sound like so much fun! I'm glad that your injuries are getting better. Is your office clean??

Off to do Insanity, 12 workouts left!

Oh my gosh, Kim, I can't contain my laughter reading about the Benadryl and you taking DH keys! I know DH probably didn't appreciate it, but I got a good hearty laugh over it! :p Glad you had a good time! Yes at the last minute Thursday night our friends called and wanted us to come camp with them. We just went for one night as DH needed to be back today but it was really fun!

Rachel, I laughing about your poor smelly pooch! Poor guy, he's going to have a complex! LOL! Glad you're listening to your back and hope it doesn't go on too long. Good that you're being careful. So now that you've given yourself some rest time, how's the arm? And...I think it's GREAT you did nothing this weekend! You work your butt off and your body is probably enjoying it!

Cendrine, tell me what Fondant is. I've never even heard of it. Did you make it to the burger bar? That sounds like fun! They have such great treats at Whole Foods! I think you really earned a good weekend rest this weekend! You worked your butt off too with all those little Tigers! LOL!

I'm going to save this post before I lose it...

Where we went camping is about 2.5 hours from here near Mt Rainier. Our friends had a great site right on a lake (15 feet from the beachfront). When we got there Saturday it was cool (sweatshirts required) but not too bad. We took our kayaks so when we were getting ready to go out on the lake, I discovered DH left my life jacket at home! WHAT??? I couldn't believe it. I won't kayak without a life jacket since I'm not a very good swimmer and especially with my arm not quite right. SO...DH and the other guy did a kayak run but us girls did not. DH felt terrible but...oh well...it happens! If we were going to be there for several days I would have probably been a little more upset. :p Besides it was cold and the water was freezing! Anyway, GF and I went for short hike while they kayaked. They eat healthy like us so we had tons of fruits and vegetables and they had brought steaks for us for dinner. Then the next day, it was drizzly rain and cold enough you saw your breath. So we stayed near the fire. GF daughter (who's in college) had come also and brought a GF. So the four of us girls played cards and sang songs and were just goofy girls! Then we left late in the afternoon. Oh and Saturday night, there was this giant house on a hill across the lake and they were doing fireworks so that was fun. The only downside of the trip is my sinuses are really messed up from the campfire smoke. I tried to stay away but it found me no matter where I was! Oh, but I LOVED listening to the water lap when we went to bed! Overall, though a short trip, it was great to get away. On another note, we're supposed to finally start warming up tomorrow!

Oh and regarding my office, I thought it would take about 2 hours for DH and I to get it organized, get rid of clutter, etc...but 6 hours later...it's pretty good but the books still need to be organized. I have about 50 books to go to Goodwill or someplace besides all the junk I threw out. It wouldn't have taken so long but I had lots of papers to go through. We had really neglected that room for too long! I'd say we're 90% done. Getting that done did alot to help me feel less cluttered!

Jo, I love the feeling of a declulttered room! It's getting time for me to declutter my office again too! Too bad about the life vest, but I'm glad you still had a great time! You are certainly a lot more responsible than me, I probably would have just gone kayaking anyway, even though I know turning over can happen quite easily. Actually, maybe I would not have gone because of the cold water....LOL!
Fondant is sort of like an edible playdough like icing used to cover cakes smoothly and also to form just about anything you like out of. My research taught me that store bought fondant is not very tasty and I found a yummy fondant recipe to make from scratch, which is what I'll be trying out tomorrow or Wednesday. Should be fun if nothing else (it's made with marshmallows, so I know the kids will want to be involved....)
The burger bar was good. I had a buffalo burger and grilled veggies and it was tasty. The kids had chicken nuggets and sweet potato fries, dh had pulled bbq pork and everyone left happy.

Kim, you made me laugh with your benadryl story! The way you told it was hilarious! something you might see in a comedy! Sounds like you had a good time at the lake, but boy do I hear you on the mosquitos and the black flies! I hate those! Now wonder you needed relief!
I had to chuckle too that the kids burned all their school work....
Dd did have fun at camp too. They got to do some of the same things as the campers themselves, provided they were old enough. Obviously dd did not get to do the archery, but some of the older ones did. She got to do crafts and games and play on the playground and made some friends that she hung out with at the end of camp picnic.

Rachel, poor smelly dog, LOL! Poor you for having to do it with no desired results! Be careful with your workout tomorrow! I hope you'll be able to do well! I'm going to walk tomorrow and then we are going to go visit a friend who has moved an hour south of us, so I gotta get up regular time so I can get the day started. I did find a good strawberry recipe. There were many with jello or preserves but I found one made from scratch with fresh strawberry puree, so I am going to try that one out. It looked good on the website and got good reviews for the most part.

Hi again! My GF (who's at 95 lbs lost now) just called me and wanted to know if I can go whip her butt tomorrow at the gym as she's taking the day off. (Did I tell you guys I took this whole week off?) So I'm going to meet her at 2:00 when the gym is quiet and we're going to go try out all the machines that we haven't used yet. Then do some cardio. She can't spin tomorrow so I'll probably skip it too and do weights with her and then cardio. I put together a total body workout for her to do - I'm going to work her hard! Though her weight loss has slowed she's been doing 5K's (about 5 now) and yesterday did her first 10K (in addition to spinning, water aerobics, etc). She told me she signed up for half-marathon for Labor Day! I'm so so proud of her! But I got to get her doing more weight work.

Cendrine, thanks for the info on the fondant. Who knew there was such a thing!? :D The burger bar sounds wonderful! I wonder if we have that at our WH. Hmmmm....

Alright, off to finish the lingering laundry. I like that I don't have to get up tomorrow!

Jo, I am so impressed with your gf's progress and lifestyle change! It must be so rewarding to be working with someone this dedicated! I bet when you get her doing more weights more often, she will see an additional change in her body composition, even if the weight itself doesn't budge, she should get trimmer simply because of the added muscle mass. I'm excited to hear when she notices results! Have fun working her hard!
I actually have doms in my but and hamstrings from doing the ballet workout yesterday. I will be doing this one again! Today was a 60min treadmill walk, felt good!
Enjoy your own time in the gym too!
Can you guys believe it is raining here today? It has never rained here in July in the 12 years I've lived here! Very odd. But I take it! So much for it supposedly getting hotter this week LOL!
Well, gotta go, I have to go swing by a restaurant on my way down to my friends, I'm bringing salads for us for lunch. And I have to add in more travel time due to the wet roads...

Well I am just about as pooped as I could be! I guess three days off and then getting up early this morning and having a good hard days work has added up.

I was still not feeling very confident with my back this morning but it feels fine now. So it was yoga and the pillattes abs from ab circuit. I am really itching to do something. I am going to see how I feel in the morning. It has been a long time since I have taken this many days off!

Jo-The sinus thing stinks esp. when you have to have a fire and you want to be close to it! Around here the saying is smoke follows beauty so that was probably the deal.;) My arm is still giving me some trouble. It didn't bother me this weekend at all but after today at work, I think I am still gonna be on the bench.

Cendrine-Wow the times they are a changing..First we get 8in. of snow and now you are having rain...I wonder what wacky weather Kim and Jo are gonna get.
I am the same way when it comes to making a cake. I want the whole thing to be from scratch...It just feels like I can't take credit for it if not or something. I am not sure what it is.

Kim-I love that other than the biting flies and the thunderstorms, Yall had a great time! I t sounds like yall were really productive up there this time. I bet your mom was pleased as punch about the dock getting built.
I have one gf that I see really regularly from school. We live in such a small town though, that you still occasionally hear about other people and it will be fun to see alot (not all:p) of them! LOL

Better go..I am tuckered. See yall in the morning!

Rachel

Finished Insanity, DH joined me today instead of running. I just realized that the last week of Insanity has 7 workouts rather than 6 workouts and a day of rest:mad: so my countdown is off. I have 11 workouts left. I'm taking a nice long break after I'm done Insanity! My son laughed at me when I said that yesterday.

Glad that your back is feeling good Rachael! Isn't it hard to go back to work after a long weekend! So does the poor doggie get another bath or does he just continue to smell bad?

Jo How exciting to be part of your gf's transformation! She must be so proud! It sounds like you had fun camping even if things weren't perfect! I love hearing the sounds of wildlife/water while camping! 6 hours to clean an office! You must have done a ton of decluttering! I bet it looks great! Any other fun holiday activities this wee?

Cendrine That's great that you're starting to increase your workouts! Is your back giving you any trouble anymore?

Oh you lovely lovely girls!!!! SUMMER HAS ARRIVED!!!! It was 80 today and tomorrow it's hitting 90! Then 90's the rest of the week! We stole Cendrine's sunshine! :p:cool: Is it raining at your house Rachel? We stole your heat but not the humidity you have! So the other day it was Cathe's site that was down and today we were without cable! This is the first time I've been able to get online all day! :p

I met GF at the gym this afternoon and we did a full body workout and I kicked her butt! At the last minute, instead of using weight machines, we decided to do the whole thing with free weights so she can learn more if she wants to start working out at home. She did great and I was working out with her so I got a great workout in too! Interesting enough, no arm issue as long as I don't move it that odd way. I came home and iced it though. Except for legs, we did 3 different exercises for every body part and then I did about 6 or 7 for legs to hit all angles. We finished off with abs. So the whole workout took us about 90 minutes since I let her have sips of water! ;) Seriously, part of it was me working with her on form and we were in no hurry today!

One other update. Since I'm in the mood, and after feeling so great about the work we completed with the office, I got up this morning and started on the attic which is really my hiding place behind my closet. It's not really an attic, but where we have extra storage. I only spent an hour on it and got about 1/2 done. I'm feeling very accomplished!! I'm tackling everything I wanted to do this week! :D I'll finish that tomorrow and then on to the next one! When you're in the mood to clean and THROW AWAY, you have to take advantage!!

Cendrine I'm so glad you're doing better and better on your workouts! And, truly I'm sorry about the rain! I can't believe it's raining! Ahhh...but we all have had weird weather haven't we? Hope you had a fun lunch!

Rachel, don't stress about taking those days off, you'll do BETTER if you wait until you're truly ready! You'll come back stronger than ever. So you're doing the right thing sticking with the yoga for now. Nothing could be better for your back! Good GIRL!!! :D;)

Kim, forgive me for laughing at your misfortune! I can feel your disappointment with the extra Insanity workout and that you just want to get this OVER! ;) But I couldn't help breakout laughing when I read that! You have my sympathy! :p Did you watch Jillian? I thought it was a little over the top but okay. There were a lot of very unhealthy people....it's so sad!

Have a good day tomorrow!!! 90 degrees for me YIPPEEEEE!!!!!!!! (Kim, that's 33 celsius -WHOOHOOO!!!!)

Man I am so glad I have you girls! I woke up this morning and my back was feeling about as bad as it did the first day after I messed it up! I was so down and depressed. I was really thinking I would be able to get some sort of workout in this morning but I quickly figured out that was not going to happen. So I went into my workout room and wallered (<---TX word;)) in self pity stretches...Then I thought maybe I should try to work on core some more since lack of strength there is probably what got me into this mess in the first place:mad: So I repeated the pillattes core from ab circuits and then I left still feeling depressed. Then I get on here and yall are all always so encouraging and always say just the thing I need to hear. I guess I should always checkin first if I am feeling blue! Thanks again!
Don't get me wrong...I am still very frustrated with myself for going to high on my weights and not thinking that one through but I am trying to look at this like a life lesson:rolleyes: Maybe this way I will think more before I do something.

Jo-Yea for summer...You can have it LOL!!!!I am ready for fall again Haha!
I sounds like you are really using your time wisely with all the organizing! I agree with you 100%, when you feel like throwing away stuff , hurry before you change your mind!!!:D
You will have to let us know how your gf feels today after the butt kicking workout yesterday!

Kim-Sorry the countdown got screwed up...Just think of that last workout as the cherry on your break cake!
Yes the pups are going to smell, I think! LOL I think it will take just about a miracle to make the boy smell good. Since it is so hot, and he has long hair, he spends alot of time in the creek. Needless to say, he smells like a combo of things and they don't mix to make a great smell! LOL

Cendrine-Are you going to practice with the fondant before the birthday? I am notorious for making a recipe for someone I have not tried before (then stressing about it until the inevitable taste test) so if you practice what will you do with all that fondant?

Water is boiling for breakfast...TTYL

Rachel

Yay on the nice weather, Jo! Enjoy it! I don't mind so much that it's rainy here, makes the kids whine less that I am taking a home day today to get some much needed stuff done, among others the fondant experiments.... I have just finished making the batch and mixed about 5 different colors, then I realized that the picture I printed out didn't print at all so taking a break to come look at what that cake is supposed to look like now that I'm going to shape some stuff out of it.... Rachel, I don't usually experiment before hand because I don't want all the extra stuff, but here's my hope that it will work out well at the first try and then I can keep it wrapped up air tight for next week (fondant keeps indefinitely, lucky me). So what I'm going to make now (or I should say: try) is make the little fairy who is going to sit on top of the toadstool cake, and some decroations to go on the surrounding garden, like some cute snails and flowers and stuff like that. I am really hoping that I'll be happy with the result, if it's not good, I'm tempted to just buy a tinkerbell candle and pop that on top....;LOL
Kim, sorry about the count down mixup! How frustrating, but I'm with Jo, I had to laugh!
Pilates for me today. I did a short but good one, since I had my day planned so full with other stuff. (I had already made a butterpecan ice cream (healthy recipe, non dairy) to freeze and made two batches of bread dough, one to use up dried plums and the other to let the kids hide some swiss chocolate in it and make little cats out of, turned out great, by the way. THen I had to do some ironing, vacuuming and now I need to mop with all that powdered sugar trying so hard to go anywhere but in the bowl....
Still gotta make dinner too, but fairy first! ;)

Hi Guys! I got up and did Step Moves today! YIPPEE! I did the last section (with all combos) three times! Felt so good!

Rachel, so sorry you're back is aggravating you! But remember, your back is connected to EVERYTHING so it makes it more challenging to get it healed up! I'm sure Cendrine will atest to that! I share your frustration but be patient as you will get better! It just takes time.

The weather is beautiful and I'm getting lots done. I've been inside, outside, inside, inside out, outside in...you know? :p

Alright just wanted to pop back in for a Hello and will talk to you later!

Hello Kim and Cendrine!

Well we are busy busy at work...This is the tough part...Getting the carpet up and the glue removed so that we are able to put down the vinyl tiles. The floor has to be super smooth or it will show everything. SO dh runs a sander with a special attachment on it to bust the glue up and I come behind him and clean it up so it does not get tromped on and squished back on the floor. We are coming along pretty good but it is time consuming.

The funny part is after being on my knees all day and scraping you would think my back would hurt worse...but it feels great...this is how I get the idea that I might be working out in the morning. I think that is why I was so disappointed today. I am ready for what ever in the morning this time though so I do not think I will be so disappointed this time.

Cendrine-The decorations sound so cute. I hope you will post a pic of the cake even if you do just buy a candle for it:p. I bet it will turn out though. You are really getting a good start on it. I am bad about waiting and then cramming like a college student for a test! lol
I am thinking about ordering some pilattes dvds if this back thing persists. I think I might anyway just to have some variety. I really need to improve my flexibility anyhow.

Jo-I don't know if I missed you posting about it but did the shot for your heel work? I know you have mentioned about not being able to do certain things still.
I am so glad you are finally getting some warm weather. And yes it is raining here. In fact they are predicting some areas to have flooding. I love the unexpected rain. It is a nice break from all the heat and I know we are probably going to dry up after this so I am not taking it for granted!

Kim- hope you are having a great day!

Gonna go get ready for bed!
