Stayed up too late last night for the second night in a row. Our football team was playing on the west coast and we had to cheer them on. (Had some company over to watch) The game wasn't over till after midnight.
Helped a bit at the garage sale, did some errands and 4DS Kickbox (DH and ds did it with me) today.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Good Monday Morning!

Just a quickie before I head off to Yoga. This might prove to be a challenge since I just did plyo legs this morning and I am going to do 2 yoga classes...one is a beginner class that breaks down all the elements to get into certain poses and then the second one is the more advanced version of the first. If I am not mistaken I think the focus might be on hamstring work today so  on doing that after plyo.

We had a big Sunday. My dads birthday is today so we celebrated that yesterday morning and then I was having friends over for dinner last night.
So I got up yesterday morning and started some country style ribs. First I grilled them then I braised them in a cast iron skillet on the grill. They were a hit but I know I could improve on them for next time. I also braised some kale which I think everyone liked the best. I think they were surprised greens could taste so good.
Anyhow enough boring y'all.
If I survive today I will try to come back and let yall know any life changing lessons I learn. LOL

What recipe did you use to braise the kale? I'd be interested to know, a friend of mine who is learning to cook from me doesn't like kale and I'd like to convert her... ;) If your friends liked it, maybe I'll try it on her... LOL!

First day of Girl scout day camp today. Pretty fun, even ds is enjoying it. We do have three girls that like to complain and whine, but the other seven are awesome! We made tie die bandanas and fabric bags with them today, which they enjoyed but needed a lot of help with because little 5 yr olds just can't tie all that well.

Kim, I hope you get some good sleep to catch up for your late nights... ;)

Rachel, did you survive the two classes? How did they go?

Hi Jo and Patricia!

My posts will probably be pretty short this week due to all the camping activity...

Got to post to get us back up to the front page!

Nothing exciting happening around here. Just been tired the last couple of days, super lazy last night with no workout and tonight was Rhythmic Step.

Oh I guess I lied there was some excitement, two nights ago there was a drive by shooting about a block away in our new development.:( About 9:15 on Sunday night, the kids and I were out for a walk before bed, all of a sudden there was a swarm of emergency vehicles arriving on the intersection in front of us. The police barricaded it off and we walked past, we had no idea of what was going on till I saw the morning newspaper. A car drove by and shot 3 men standing inside an open garage.(no deaths) No arrests made, the media is reporting that it was in relation to a drug deal:eek::eek: How scary! This area is not where you would expect anything like this to happen, the media keeps describing the area as a "very quiet, new upscale residential area where you would never expect something like this to happen". The funny thing was part of the reason we moved as the old neighbourhood was sort of the edge of a rougher part of town and I was getting worried as the kids were getting older. I was moving to the nice end of town where it's safer:rolleyes:

Wow Kim...That is scary and probably pretty surprising for you too with all that you said about the neighborhood. You know this is a new day and age with drugs now and it is not just things that you find in poor neighborhoods...esp. with prescription drug addiction becoming the #1. Is it the same where you are?
It does make you wonder how the future is going to be. That being said though, I am sure this is a super random event in your neighborhood and I am sure yall have nothing to worry about.

Cendrine...The braised kale was super easy.:
The recipe goes as follows and I will tell you what I did.
1T olive oil
2 cups of onion thinly sliced (I just used one onion)
1 tsp salt
12 turns of freshly ground pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Saute all of these ings. for a couple of mins. then add the 2 T minced garlic.

All this at med high heat.

Add 8 cups (firmly packed ) kale and 2 cups of chicken broth. I always add some freshly ground nutmeg at this point. Not much just a couple of scratches on the rasp. Braise uncovered for 8 to 10 mins. I might have went a little more than that. Then add a splash of apple cider vinegar.
Thats it and it was great!

We had a little job yesterday so that is why I was a no show. I kind of felt not myself all day and then I started my cycle that afternoon which was a few days early:rolleyes: So that explains my being so crabby! Poor DH. LOL

The yoga classes the other day were great. I really think I am learning a lot of upper body control from them which I think might help me to control things like push ups and shoulder presses better. Instead of taking all the weight in one area...spreading it out more probably like it was supposed to be. In turn helping me to not over use those certain areas that I seem to get a lot of strain in esp. when working a lot of heavy weight in one week.

Since I was super tired yesterday, I did not set my alarm this morning so I wasn't up till almost 7:eek: so had to eat regular breakfast...Now that it is digested I better get to my workout...MM :p:D;):cool:TTYL

Kim, we had a weird case in our neighborhood a few yrs ago (this is supposed to be the safest city in Orange county...) I don't remember the details but it involved a murder inside a house with children present : ( always worry about how the kids recover from something like this!

Rachel, thanks for the recipe, will try it like that!

3rd day of gs camp, we made strawberry shortcake and memory stones among other things. The kids are having fun, my group is mostly all sweet, but a couple of more challenging girls... I'm glad they won't be in our troop this fall! They look and act a couple of yrs younger than dd so that may have something to do with it.

I'm at chiro for follow up and am confused because the pt says not to do extensions and he sais to do them ...
will keep you posted

Sounds like girl scout camp is keeping you very busy! I'm sure the shooting was a very targeted event and that overall the neighbourhood is very safe. I think you are right Rachael, drugs are moving out of the poorer areas of the city. I'm sure seeing lots of police patrolling this area though. When I look out my back (kitchen window) I see tons of construction guys, they are building the park beside us and houses on the street behind us, then cop cars patrolling. This "quiet" neighbourhood seems crazy at times, much quieter in the evenings once the construction guys go home.

Last night sitting on the back deck (no fence yet) as it was getting dark. I saw one guy pull up in his truck and fill it up with gravel they are using to make the walking paths in the park. Then later a couple drove up and dump their garbage (yard stuff like branches ) along the empty street behind us. What do people think?

Cendrine, maybe you could get each health professional to explain the reasoning behind not doing extensions?

Last night was STS pylo legs. DS did it with me, it's a fun workout but the equipment changes are annoying.

I have Thurs. and Friday off work but today DH has some minor day surgery and I'm driving him. Tomorrow I have a one year followup for my eye surgery. Saturday dd is having a sleepover for her 11 birthday party. So 4 days off and it's beautiful out but it's not a real fun weekend.

The schedule says Cardio Kicks but I'm feeling lazy this morning, maybe later today.

Just a quick in and out for me cause I got the yoga this morning.:p

I am with you Kim...I hate litterers and illegal dumpers and thieves! I could go on and on. Since we live in the country there are enough of all three. Oh and drug addicts too. Of course this is such a small town you kind of know who is who though. I think the littering is my biggest pet peeve. The other day they mowed our country road and there was just so much trash that was slung in the road. I told DH that if it was not 110 outside that day I would have went to try and clean some of it up! Of course he thinks that is just putting myself in danger to get run over for something that might only help a day but that is not really how I see it. I would hope that when people drive by and see me picking up trash that they might stop and think before they throw out that next coke bottle!

OK sorry rant over.

This mornings workout was STS TB. I did everything but the abs. I have been slacking a little on abs but I feel like I am getting them at yoga even though I know some cathe abs would do a body good, I am not thinking that at the end of the tough workout.

OK now we are learning a little about bhandas (pronounced bondas) Have yall ever used that in any of your yoga?

I will be back to talk about that later!

Hi Gals

It's been a super busy week for me after our vacation and I'm just finding it very difficult to login everyday.

I'm going to take a break from chatting for while. Its been great getting to me you all and good luck in all your fitness endeavours.

Patricia

Good morning all.

Just a quick note before MIC:eek: That might turn into half of MIC:eek: We will see how my energy level is after I get started.

Not too much to report here. Just chugging along.
It is too hot for any projects around here so We are just stuck either in the house or in the car but trying very hard to not be outside. Another 106 degree day. Breaking all the records for 100 degree days that have ever been recorded. YUCK Not a good record to break. Of course not to mention the drought!

Well that is not what I intended to talk about. LOL

Better get to it. TTYL

Camp is done! Today I have to play catch up with chores, but we're fitting in a family bikeride, we'll try to head out soon so we don't catch the heat, although for you our heat would probably be refreshing, Rachel! Chiro said I should start doing stepping and weight (low impact and some modifications) to see how my back responds. He's been working on me three times this week to get to the bottom of what was still bothering me. We think its a muscle along the outer thigh and one by the oblique area that are too tight... I seem to get some relief when he works them.
Kim, I hope your neighborhood calms down a bit before the summer is out so you can enjoy outside time without distractions.

Jo, is this your last week of the term? I hope you are holding up well!

Well at least that is welcoming news Cendrine...I so hope that you are able to start back up with a little bit of step. And yea on camp being over....although it was probably fun I am sure it will be great to get back to your regularly scheduled day.

I am wondering if this might help you...All the time in yoga the instructor says to engage your bhandas. Well I really had no idea what she was talking about and so I eventually googled it:rolleyes:. It is alot to explain here and the web sites that offer explanation do a way better job than I could but I have been since trying to remember to engage my bhandas during everything including weight lifting and even as much as possible during cardio. I think it is really helping me to keep my core and lower body tight. Thats aiding me to not dump into my lower back like I tend to do. If you have time please look it up because I would like to know if it helps you too.

DH is gone tonight helping one of his friends shoot a wedding. It is his first time to really film anything that important so I think he was a little nervous. He is really good though at thinking about things that most people wouldn't. I guess that is the artist in him. So I am having a much needed night to myself. Did I mention here lately I have developed a taste for beer...Don't worry I don't think I will be getting a beer belly anytime soon but I am not going to lie. I like a good beer with a veggie burger.:p I think it might be the heat! LOL Because before this summer, I don't think I drank a whole beer.

OK better go get some reading done in the nice quiet house. TTYT

Well we're having dd's birthday sleepover so far so good. We took them swimming, came home had pizza/cake, now they are in their sleeping bags in the basement watching tv. It's 10 pm. Hopefully they will go to sleep nicely!

IMAX 2 for me this morning. My neck has been bothering me since doing Muscle Max yesterday. Yesterday we went to the zoo and did lots of walking and today I swam with the girls so lots of exercise. But I did have some pizza and cake;) DD is super excited about her Kindle which is from my mom but I have been busy finding books for it, so I had already downloaded 28 books so hopefully she'll be busy reading tomorrow after her friends go home.

Rachael How did MIC go??? Did you make it through the whole thing! We have been having a drought here but of course our temps aren't as crazy as yours! I'm sure you're looking forward to autumn! Enjoy your quiet evening!

Cendrine Good news for you!! Are you back to homeschooling this week?

Thanks for mentioning that, Rachel, I will have to go check that out later! I am planning on doing LIC tomorrow to put my body to the test.... LOL Lighter weights, obviously... but I'm excited! I'm feeling pretty good today and I have been doing the extensions that I have been afraid of for the past about 4 days and I am feeling well! I'm really impressed with my chiros work ethic, he is not charging me extra for these follow up appts, he considers it part of the package and won't let me go until I'm at least 80% better (he says how else is anyone ever going to refer anyone to me and come back) True, but not everyone practices accordingly. Going back in tomorrow afternoon, he's working on some tight areas and it seems to be helping!

I'm taking the kids watermelon picking at a local organic farm, the same one we went to for strawberries earlier in the year. The kids are very excited! I also just signed up the kids for several fieldtrips through the end of the year, one of which they get to do apple picking, cider pressing, archery and other fun stuff, the other one they get to dip candles like the pilgrims did and churn butter, etc. We also have a pumpking picking on the calendar and some christmas related things. It seems if I don't put those things on the calendar now, they won't happen. I saw halloween candy and christmas lights at Costco yesterday already! (better get going on planning the advent calendar at the rate this is going.... LOL)

Kim, we are starting up school again tomorrow, although it will be a light day since we will be going out to the farm in the early afternoon. And at night I'm going to a Daisy Essentials class for Girlscouts.... I so need a co-leader to step up! I was on the phone with the service unit leader and she is going to get me connected with the person that has the interest list and then I'll try to get a parent roped in....;)
