~~STS 6 MONTH ALUMNI~~~Nov.21

My Dvds got here! I'll be previewing this afternoon, at least for a little bit. My back is flaring up today, so I don't think I'll be able to do one (and I didn't fall on the ice once, yesterday!) So I am not sure where this is coming from. And I have some sinus thing going on that gives me the worst sore throat from post nasal drip! UUGh! Our weather may be nice but I am not feeling like going anywhere today either, Jo!
What workout are you going to tackle today, Jo?
Rachel, did you get your workouts?
Sorry Kim, that you have to be the last to get them.

I made a cranberry pie this morning, one that I was experimenting subbing all the bad stuff out for better stuff.... I had a taste of the filling and it tasted great, but I'm not sure about the crust (pie is cooling) I used whole wheat instead of white wheat and forgot to add the gluten, then added coconut oil instead of butter and sucanat instead of sugar. I can't wait to try it. If it's good, that's what we'll have for dessert at thanksgiving, if not, we'll have to pick something up...LOL!

Yahoooooo Cendrine!!! So did your package come priority USPS too? Yipppeee! I can't wait to read what you think after you preview! Cranberry pie? Oh my! I've never thought about making a cranberry pie. I can't wait to hear how it turns out! I hope you don't have a sinus infection!

Well...no workout yet. Everyone is having to work from home today because of the weather as no one can get anywhere. So I've been on the phone almost nonstop since I posted my email this morning. (Haven't even got a shower yet!) :p Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! Tonight is TBL! Fortunately I won't miss spinning as they canceled all the classes at the gym and I couldn't get there even if I wanted to! LOL!

Hope you're all having a good day!

Chilly day here today. -25C with the windchill this morning. Supposed to warm up to the low minuses tomorrow but we're got a snowfall warning for 20 cm of snow tomorrow. Going to be fun driving again. Believe me, Jo, no work or gym classes will be cancelled;) Life goes on just put on those snow tires and drive slower. Life never slows down for weather here, everyone is just expected to deal with it.

What fun to go ice skating Cendrien!! Any little hockey players in the making? Hope you're feeling better soon! Sounds like a good day to curl up on the couch and preview.

I did get a 2 mile run on the tm and CM1 done before work this morning. Will try and get the grocery shopping done quickly before TBL tonight.

Oh Kim, I know we sound like a bunch of wusses here! LOL! But the problem this time is because we're all ice! It will be better tomorrow except I can't get off my hill until it gets above freezing, we don't get plowed or de-iced up here. Tomorrow people will probably be able to get into the office. Seattle is all hills so it's really nasty when it's icey - definitely a lot of slipping and sliding! I have to admit, I do like working remotely by the fireplace in my jammies! ;):D:cool::D

Oh, TBL is coming on...gotta go!

Oh Jo ! I didn't mean to refer that you were wusses! Icy weather is certainly more dangerous than snow. We probably should have more people staying home this last week, there has been some tragic highway accidents around here! Two days ago, a 17 year old driver hit another car head on, she died, and killed 2 people in the other car. They were parents of 5 boys :( The accident is being blamed on the weather, poor visilibity due to blowing snow. There were other fatal accidents this week but that's the one that really got me. People really don't take the weather seriously enough around here.

After the busy week you've had, you deserved a day at home in your pjs! Drive safely tomorrow!

Oh no no...I didn't take it like that!!! So sorry! I was more "talking out loud!" and I guess I'm just rambling (too long at home! LOL!) (But many people do think we're wusses! :D) Winter weather is dangerous for us ALL!!! I hate hearing about the needless tragedies because people put themselves and others at risk!

So what did you think of TBL? I am glad Lisa is gone. I still think this season hasn't had the pazzazz of previous seasons but now I finally like it more! I love that Ada and Brendan let Patrick have the car. That was very touching!

I forgot to mention today that I am so sore EVERYWHERE I couldn't do another Cathe workout. I should be good to go tomorrow though and I'm thinking about doing Intensity, or at least attempting it! :p You know how the first time through we always get our A$$es whipped!

Everyone have a great day tomorrow!

Sounds like you're in deep winter, Kim! So sorry to hear about that accident you mentioned. Life is so fragile!

Ds would probably enjoy ice hockey, but it's probably not something we'll pursue, because either hockey rink is half an hour south or north of us and I am way too used to everything being accessible within 10 min....LOL! But he wants to go back soon, he liked it so much and is still talking about it.

Jo, working with the fire place on sounds like fun! Believe it or not, our house is 13 years old and we still haven't hooked up the fireplace.... I was always wondering about how you guys handle ice and snow whenever I see the steep streets in Seattle!

We went to Whole Foods early today to pick up all our treats for tomorrow to beat the crowd and it was good, not too many people. The cranberry pie turned out delish. The recipe has you cooking the cranberries in orange juice and sugar (I did orange juice and agave) and then strain it through a sieve. I blended the heck out of the cranberry mix before putting it through a sieve and ended up being able to use almost all of it and you can't tell that there are seeds and skin in it because it is pureed so finely... so extra fiber and nutrition.... Then you cook it with some orange zest, egg yolks and butter(I used coconut oil) to make a custard and then pour it into the crust which I made whole wheat with sucanat, orange zest and coconut oil instead of butter. It's a very crunchy crust and the filling gets baked for about 20 min then you let it sit and cool before serving. All the subs turned out great in my opinion, so I'm happy with the experiment!

I forgot to say, I previewed intensity and got tired and sore just looking at it! I want to try the low impact Hiit and bootcamp weights portion some time when my back has calmed down. I am thinking I could do the low impact Hiit moves in place of the bootcamp cardio moves for extra Kick. It looks fun! And I can't wait to get to the weight workouts!

Oh my goodness I have missed a lot!
I know there is one thing for sure and that is that there WILL be a food coma in my future...I just do not see any way around it.LOL Sorry I didn't get in yesterday. I was running at half speed after not getting in from the wrap party until 2AM:eek: and then I had to get all my supplies for Thanksgiving. I don't even think we turned on the computer yesterday.

Needless to say, I missed yesterdays workout but since tomorrow is just supposed to be 20 tm and core work I might do some switching and try to get some sort of leg cardio core work instead.

I had a marathon day of cooking and now I am just tired of standing so it is nice to be sitting! Cendrine, I am thinking you had the right idea!;)

Jo-I saw a lot of news reports about your area. It looked really bad! Normally around here, if we get snow there is always a layer of ice first so I can kind of feel your pain.
Its nice to be able to lay up around the fire and get work done.
Of course around here it is 80 degrees today so no fire in sight.
I forgot to ask if yall ever figured out what you are doing for tomorrow. The weather seems like it might have some bearing on that!

Cendrine-I am going to post the broc, rice, mush casserole and see if you can give me some pointers on what you would do to lighten it. I just went ahead and made it as is..Oh so bad for you but I did not want to experiment on Thanks and it turn out terrible. To me it still seems a little ho hum though. So I would like your opinion so I can try it again after Thanks and see if I can liven and lighten it up.
I hope your back gets better soon so you can get to some of those new workouts!;)

Kim-That's terrible about the accident. I forget that teens have to drive in that weather. I would be so white knuckled age! That is terrible for the families of both.
I am like you, I still have not got my dvd's yet! I am sure I will get them before you but I apparently am farther down the list than Cendrine or Jo...haha

OK off to relax and get ready for tomorrow. Have a Happy Turkey Day if I am not in before late.

I did Intensity...all of it! YIKES!! First let me say, my legs are STILL sore from High Reps on Sunday. This probably won't happen to you guys since you've not lapsed in your weight lifting...but I am! LOL

So, it was doable to get through because of the rests and it's a real mix of some harder/some easier moves. There are four sections:

Intensity Step (about 15 min)
Intenisity Max (about 10 min)
Intensity Hi (HIIT) about 9 min)
Intensity Lo (HIIT) about 11 min)

I actually think the first two were the hardest because they are still high intensity with no breaks. I was going to quit after those and then decided to go for it. I took about a 3 minute break between the 2nd and 3rd sections. I will sleep good tonight. I think you guys will like it but I'm sitting here wiped out right now. Again, you know how mentally the first time through is hard! Anyway, I substituted my usual, jumping jacks for tuck jumps, etc. But overall I think I was about 80% there. No problems at all with choreography. So if you decide to go for it without previewing, you'll be fine - but I suggest you be fueled if you're going to do the whole thing and not do it on an empty stomach. Also, Kim, the music is different, not catchy like build me up buttercup, but it's okay, not great. But I think it's the kind that will grow on you. I usually don't pay attention to the music unless it's awful so it's fine with me. I don't know how to describe it - in fact right now I can't remember it! LOL! I've never had a problem with Cathe's music, I'm always so focused on the moves and trying to keep up! This is definitely a calorie burner and will prevent osteoporosis! LOL! The funny thing is in one of the first two sections (probably #2) Cathe says, okay time for your blast, and I thought we'd been blasting since the beginning! LOL!

A little more information, I wanted to post before I lost that.

Section 1 Intensity step is all step and familiar moves. It's kind of like SJP where she just moves through a routine, does some combo and moves on.

Section 2 Intensity Max is on the step, 3 short sections with blasts, but again I thought the whole thing was pretty much a blast! LOL!

Section 3, Intensity Hi HIIT is all floor HIIT with varying lengths. Some are 1 minute w/20 sec rest, 30 seconds with 30 second rest, etc. Variations in difficulty

Section 4, Intensity Lo HIIT is all floor Low HIIT with varying lengths like section 3. I did do some jumping in here. If you do the whole thing, this was a great section to end with.

Stretch - nice 6 minute stretch

Bonus Bootcamp - this is 9 minutes and I didn't preview yet.

There are 8 premixes and I haven't previewed them either but from the names I think they'll be great!

Oh my goodness, just got home, big sigh of relief after making it home. Roads were terrible.

Picture this, we drove by our house. It's snowing, blowing, blustery, stormy outside and there were 2 nice young men building our deck in the back yard:rolleyes::rolleyes:. I couldn't believe they were out there doing that.

Jo I enjoyed TBL yesterday better than other weeks. Somehow these people did connect with me as other years. I do feel terrible for Ava. Intensity sounds great! I'm not really a music person so unless it's really good or really bad I tend to ignore it. I just remember Cathe talking about the music for it.

Cendrine So is it just the 4 of you for Thanksgiving? Does DH get a 4 day weekend? I think I remember you saying that you were taking this week off from homeschooling?

Rachael Have a great Thanksgiving! Hopefully you'll be able to work off some off that wonderful food with your new Cathe dvds soon!

Cendrine, you are such the creative cook! Your dishes and experiments always sound so interesting and delicious! And you make is sound so easy to do...well except for that yoda cake! LOL!

Rachel, you were posting when I was typing so didn't see you post! You've been busy! My goodness! Gosh - 80 degrees! My oh my! Food coma huh? Well now we'll know why if you disappear after tomorrow! HA!

Kim, did you see the TBL special tonight? It's supposed to have previous winners plus (or including) 30 previous contestants. Should be good and a nice introduction into our holiday tomorrow! LOL!

Alrighty, I got to get back to work for a while! Happy fixings to all! Oh, yes, as it turns out, it will just be me, DH and SS tomorrow. We were going to go to Oregon to my mom's but SS has to work on Friday and didn't want to abandon him. Then our friends that live nearby who we usually spend Thanksgiving with decided to go see their family in California at the last minute as some familty member is ill. So it'll be another jammie day for me! ;):p

Gee I look like I've been on the forum all day! LOL! Kim, we posted at the same time now! LOL! Holy cow about the deck guys! Doesn't that just touch your heart though that they are trying to work regardless of the weather? Glad you're safe!

You guys, what's everyone doing for their Thanksgiving day workout?

I'm thinking about doing the STS Total Body.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! Hope you all enjoy this special day with your families! I just want to say that I'm thankful to have you all as special fitness friends:D

Got 4DS KB done yesterday, waited till the evening so DH could do it with me. So cute to watch as he gets so mixed up with the kb'ing moves.;)

Didn't work out this morning just couldn't face 4DS BC this morning. I"m not crazy about the cardio in it. Hopefully I'll still get it done this evening.

Big hockey game here tonight. My ds's hockey team is playing my nephew's hockey team. ALthough they both have played for years and are the same age, they have played in different competitive levels but this year they are in the same league. The whole family is going, should be fun! They boys have been talking about it for weeks.

Going to get going early to work as the driving will be very slow again.

Looking forward to reviews of STS Total Body Jo! I watched some of TBL but not all of it! They always make their shows so long.

Kim, I feel the same way as you about 4DS BC... cardio....;) The game should be interesting, let us know who wins! And yes, you are right, we are on break this week, which is why I was able to take the kids ice skating and do other time consuming stuff like teaching ds how to use his pottery wheel....LOL!

Jo, I forgot to mention, a few days back you asked what kind of gym dh had signed up for. It is a full one with a pool and all. The kid section has the wii and lots of other computer games as well as a pretty nice outdoor playground. So the kids can't wait for dh to take them! :D
I'm still not doing well, I have no idea why my back is acting up so much this week, so I'm taking it easy and taking lots of advil... No workout for me for thanksgiving, but we might go for a walk later, that much I could do.
What's on the menu for you for thanksgiving?

We picked up some fancy stuff from whole foods, one of which I am particularly intrigued with: a quinoa, fig loaf wrapped in puff pastry, supposedly savory, like a vegan substitute for turkey....
There is also a sweet potato, turnip mash and two different kinds of roasted, seasonal vegetables that look really delish. Dh also picked up some turkey and prime rib, stuffing and gravy for the traditionalists... we have one friend coming over to hang out for the day, so she might appreciate the more normal stuff...LOL!

Rachel, what all did you make yesterday that kept you in the kitchen all day? I am looking forward to seeing the recipe for the casserole to see what I might change. Probably a good call to stick with the normal recipe for now. It's just one day and you eat so incredibly well every day that I wouldn't worry about what you eat today!

Well, Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I, too, am grateful for you guys, my online workout friends!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I am thankful you have all supported me through this year and are always here for me! I look forward to our posts and what's going on with all of you! Thank you for being my friends!!!

Kim, I'm with you on 4DS BC. That was one I've never enjoyed either for some reason. TBL was good but Michelle wasn't on and she was one I always liked. Did you see the triatholon? If you didn't, it was about 30 or 40 of past contestants did a triathalon in SF and Tara won for the girls and Mark (the cryer) for the guys. Boy I was happy to see how many had kept the weight off! Good luck with the hockey game!!

Cendrine, your dishes sound delish! :D;) The sweet potato turnup mash sounds wonderful! I'm going to make some mashed sweet potatos today and would love to have a turnup in them! The gym sounds great! Our gym has WII for the kids and a huge kids area. They call it kids club and have all kind of scheduled kid activities - I think it's a good way for the kids to get their parents to the gym! LOL!

Rachel, good morning to you!

Okay, I'm going to finish up my coffee and go tackle STS total body! I'll report back later with my results!

STS Total Body

STS was great! I think you'll enjoy this! Again I went light on weights partly because of my shoulder and partly so I could gage what I needed. I'm glad I did because it moves pretty fast. It is very much an endurance workout so I suggest the first time you try it you go light. The pace is fast. There were 6 groups of trisets with 2 sets each. For each exercise in each triset you do 16 reps, then you have about a 20 second rest then the 2nd set is 12 reps each.

I can't remember how they went exactly but is was something like this:

1. something I forgot/deadlifts
2. chest/triceps
3. squats/lunges
4. back/biceps
5. paper plate side lunges/back lunges/deadlifts
6. shoulders
Abs
Stretch

Interspersed between those groupings were some bonus burn exercises. For triceps she did dips and then in the bonus burn was tricep pushups which I can't do so I substituted.

I was expecting this workout to be more the pace of Muscle Max but it's not, it's fast except for the deadlifts. Overall I really enjoyed this - I think you guys will like the ab workout. It's one of those tough, fast, get the job done.

Thanks for the review, Jo!
My back is suddenly feeling better, sometime after lunch it started feeling ok.... I hope it stays that way. If it does, I might just try the sts light tomorrow...!
