~~STS 6 Month Alumni~~ January 2, 2011

Intensity done! DH did it with me. This is the second time he has done Intensity with me, and I can't believe he wants to do step as he has never before. He'll do other cardio/weights but not step. I really try not to giggle but he's just all over the step (and not in the right direction). But at least he's trying and he finished the whole workout.

Jo Hop you've caught up at work on all the emails! How are your abs feeling after spinning yesterday?

Cendrine I liked your comment to DH about the gym. Does he ever consider working out at home? Some people are gym people and some are home workout people! How has his foot healed?? I'm hoping for a short jury day! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Rachael Ouch on the wisdom teeth for DH! Well at least he doesn't have time to get anxious about them. How come they have to come out, was he having problems?

Going to go watch the gold medal hockey game (World Cup Juniors) Canada vs. Russia on tv. As you probably realize hockey is pretty much a religion up here:rolleyes: The three things that bring Canada to a halt because everyone is watching tv, the Stanley Cup finals, the winter olympics gold medal hockey game and the annual gold medal World Junior Hockey game. I mean it's everywhere here, it's the only thing people talk about, front page of every newspaper, etc. I'm curious if there is any media coverage of it down there? It's being held in Buffalo, New York but they say it's 75% Canadians in the stands for most games.

LOL, Kim on being all over the step and not in the right direction! LOL! It must be so hard for you to keep a straight face!:D I had to smile just watching dh do sts warmups with Cathe! His foot is doing pretty well, I think he is still procrastinating getting orthodics, but I think if he had those, he could probably start some more high impact stuff? He did some Cathe workouts, once he got over the fact that she is a woman and then did Sts for a little while, but he hasn't done anything consistent at home. He says he keeps forgetting that we have a treadmill.... He used to be really consistent at the gym until he changed jobs and he started doing a ton of overtime. I think he might feel more like spending time at the gym if he didn't have kids at home that jump on him the moment he gets home...;) I try to shoo him out the door to the gym at least on weekends.

Rachel, I had to giggle when you described dh's face change when he heard about tomorrow's appt. LOL! I had all my wisdom teeth removed when I was a teenager and ate soup for a week, I think... I wonder what is more painful? Take him out for ice cream afterwards, if the dentist allows...LOL!

OH, by the way, sts disc 2 doms have arrived! LOL

Well poor dh...one extraction done and 2 more to go. For some reason they are not pulling the fourth one right now. So now we are just waiting for the numbness to do away to see if he needs any pain meds. We both normally don't take anything too strong so we are going to see if just the regular advil will be good enough. So far he is being a trooper:rolleyes:

This morning's workout was Intensity and I think that workout is not ever going to get any easier. LOL I do feel like I got through it a little better but it seemed so long this time. Once the step portion is over I feel like I have made it through and then I realize the Hiits are just ongoing! LOL I survived though.

Kim-I had a good laugh at your description of your dh doing the step. Mine is exactly the same way. He really hasn't ever done any step workouts but when ever there is any choreographied (word?) section he looks so funny attempting. It must be a guy thing. Although sometimes I look funny with some of the stuff too. It is just they look more awkward coupled with uncomfortable or something. :D

Cendrine-Well how is it going with sts and school at the same time? I still don't see how you manage to lesson plan, plan meals and plan workouts. Luckily Cathe does a little bit of the latter for us. I hope yall are drying out. Was it that I saw snow in San Diego county the other day? I know it was the higher elevations but still that seems a little crazy.

Jo-I hope you are getting caught up. Don't feel the pressure to check in. We know you will when you can. Kiss Ibo for me.:p

Have a great day.
Oh and DH wanted me to tell yall how tough he is being...LOL:rolleyes:

I did a tm hill interval with the cathe vest and stability ball abs. I forgot that there is one ab move in addition to not twisting that I should not do until I had already done a few.... So I quickly stopped and so far I think I'm ok!

Rachel, there was a lot of snow in the San Bernardino Mountains as well! It's true what they say, in California you can go skiing in the morning and surfing in the afternoon....;) No rain for the last two days, but there are clouds....

You know, truth be told, besides working out, lesson planning, teaching and meals/household, I really don't manage to squeeze much more in, so that is how I do it. I just set priorities and when there is spare time other stuff can be added in. Like right now, I should really go see my dermatologist (I've been battling an eczema that's not going away) and get a haircut....

I bet your dh is glad he doesn't have to have the 4th tooth pulled! Tell him we are glad that he is being a trooper! (or should I say we are glad he's being tough! LOL);)

Goodness gracious, I'm at a loss for words. It's been quite a day and not what I expected or really wanted. It looks like I will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the legal field. It's been a whirlwind of emotions, I finally got home and had a little cry. I was selected as a juror on a murder case that is expected to last 6 weeks. I think I'm in some kind of shock right now. Anyways, one day at a time. I came home and did KPC which I think was a great stress reliever and gave me some quiet time to mull over what had just happened. The trial doesn't start for 2 weeks so I have time to get my life organized.

Oh, wow, Kim! What a whammy! I would be in shock too! I don't know what else to say! I hope you will be able to figure out how to function and make life go on during that time! Hugs to you!

Well I can't eat and I can't sleep so I might as well workout so MMA Fusion done early this morning. Got to go to work and talk to my manager who's not going to be happy I'm sure. Of course the jury selection was on the front page of the paper today, but I'm not supposed to read anything about the case. Maybe I should cancel my paper as it's going to be very difficult not to read about it each day, it's a high profile case it will be front page news. DH has been wonderfully supportive.

Okay I had my morning cry, workout, going to wake up the kids without scaring them and drive them to school.

Wow Kim that is just crazy. I can't even start to know what you are going through but at least your husband is there for you. It is good to know you have a good support system there. Just remember that these things go on all the time and life goes on for the jury afterward. You will get through this! Yall are not going to have to be sequestered are you?

Well I am just in for a quick minute. The weather is really nice today so we are trying to do a little work outside. It is supposed to get pretty cold the next few days so I know I will be not doing to much outside after today.
KPC today...Rocked it.
Thank goodness you said something about Fusion, Kim. I did not write in anything for tomorrow yet because I was thinking about doing a different full body workout other that STS TB since I have done it a lot here recently but I totally forgot about the add on of Fusion.

So just kind of a quite weekend around here.
Keep you chin up Kim

Kim, I would not be able to sleep very well either, my mind would be going 1000 miles a minute! How wonderful that dh is so supportive! Your manager better be too! This could happen to anyone, it's not your fault you have to do this! Isn't it crazy how far reaching the effects of one person are? I'm so glad you are able to work out! This will hopefully keep your bloodpressure down, as I'm sure your stress levels have gone up!

Rachel, good job on your workout!

Jo, you must be super busy catching up! I hope you are well! I'm trying out a dehydrated power bar today/tomorrow (dehydrating time is so long, it may be ready on Monday for review....LOL!)

I did another tm walk with cathe vest, more steady state today, and disc 3! I am feeling it already, and I didn't even do a lot of weight....

Okay, I've calmed down quite a bit. I had a nice talk with a coworker/good friend last night about it and she knew how upset I was. She starts work a hour before me so she broke the news at work and got them settled down before I arrived. She said one coworker (not unpredictably was ranting about how it was going to affect her workload etc). She tends to fly off the handle and my friend knew that and wanted her to get her venting out before I arrived. Which was good because I spent most of the morning in tears without her help. She still spent most of the day ranting about the justice system (she feels working people shouldn't serve on juries) but she is just the type to have strong opinions on everything. The rest of us try to ignore her when she gets on her soapbox.

My manager was wonderful!!!:D Her husband is a police officer so I think she has good insight. She talked about arrange counselling for when it's over if I think I need it. She just kept saying not to worry about work just to worry about managing and my family. She also said that I can take my week of holidays I was going to use the week we move and take it after the case is over before coming back to work.

I'm not suppose to read any media about the case or discuss it. I did NOT read the article and I guess I will stop the newspaper subscription to my home but here is a link to today's newspaper article so you can see what the case is
http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/lo...ith-potential-jurors-is-tested-113062964.html I only knew the article was in the paper because everyone kept mentioning it to me but I was a good little juror and did not read it!

Rachael, we will only be sequestered at the end for deliberations. Thank goodness!!!
I did the double workout today just finished STS Total Body! Hope your DH is doing well Rachael! Hope you get some breathing space this weekend Jo! Hope you're DOMS are too bad Cendrine!

I'm so glad your manager took it well and was supportive! I bet that helped a lot! Getting councelling is a great suggestion, that didn't even cross my mind. working out in the meantime will probably be your best therapy!
Sorry about the coworker and the ranting, not much you can do about that I guess.
and thanks so much for the link, I'm going to read it after I post, I really did want to find out more about what you are having to be dealing with the next few weeks!
The biggest issue though is that you are in the courtroom on your move in date! So sorry about that!

Oh Kim! Holy Cow! Remember I told you a girl from our Toronto office was on a murder case in Toronto. She was out for about 6 weeks. I hope for your sake it doesn't go that long! I read the story. You'll need your workouts more than ever - lots of cardio! Oh gosh. Well I'm glad you have good support from your manager. It really complicates work doesn't it?

Regarding me, I'm swomped so thank you all for being understanding about me not checking in. I think I should not have taken two classes this time with having taken statistics. Work is super busy and just this week (week 1) I already have 25 hours just in statistics. There is so much work. So I'll post as much as I can. Also, I think maybe I can get my schedule figured out so I can manage this better.

I should be able to post tomorrow after I take this last test for week 1 (I had a total of 3).

Rachel, give my best to DH! Wish I had your nice weather! The ice and snow finally went away and it's been raining like crazy. But supposed to snow again tomorrow.

Cendrine, you really have your hands full with all you do. Is your eczema a result of stress or other environmental issue or is it from something else. I had a friend that used to get it from stress or eating too many tomatoes.

Ibo sends his love to all of you!! Fence is in - YEAH!! DH took him to a self-bath place today and it cost $10. However, DH couldn't use the dryer on him as he bit the hose and wouldn't let go. So DH had to towel dry him. He's very fluffy right now! DH keeps buying toys for him. He got him some of those kong balls which turns him into a crazy dog. He takes it everywhere with him - including bed at night. Oh, the last two nights he finally slept until 5:30 which made DH VERY happy!

Alright, back to homework. Trying to be done by midnight tonight so I can take test in morning and be done with week 1. I have helped about 5 people in my class which just reenforces to me what I'm learning. So inspite of all the work I think I'll do real well (I hope). I love this stuff! This is the kind of class that may have been better to take in the classroom, but now I'm so acclimated to online it'll be fine. Okay, it's 10:30 so need to get back to it!

Good Saturday Morning!
I just wanted to say hello before I go hit the books again!

Rachel I meant to comment last night that yes everyone is excited around here about the Seahawks being in the playoffs! Big game today at 1:30!

Ibo slept until 6:30 this morning so DH was very happy!

Oh the other thing I was going to tell you guys is the guy I worked with last year that lost 100 lbs called me last week and asked if he could come get a spanking from me and start checking in again as he's gained back 50. So he came by yesterday and we weighed and measured him (his wife sabotages him on food and he's got little will power). Then another gal in our new office (remember we moved in with a company we bought) came and asked if I would help her. She used to weigh 400 lbs and has lost 100 already. So I'm going to meet with her next week. What's funny though is I told her she should join the "lunch bunch" which is the group of 4 (includes me) people eating the way my GF who lost 100 does and she said that's too restricted. The people in the group: my GF who's at 100 lost, me, and 2 other guys I've worked with indirectly that have both lost 80. It's not too restrictive, it's just plain healthy eating! :D All it is is everyone takes turns bringing lunch for a week at a time (my week is this coming week). But it's things like my kale soup, barley lentil soup, lots of salads, things we all eat anyway they just help each other stay on track.

Okay, away I go to lock myself into STATISTICS!! :p

Okay, no tears so far today so I guess I'm getting use to the idea. Just such a weird twist in life and really hard to wrap my head around. I think I'm just going to pretend it's not happening for the next week.

I'm really enjoying a rest day and no where to go. Getting lots of packing done!

I remember you mentioning the girl from Toronto Jo! This case is supposed to be 6 weeks as well but the jury doesn't start till the fourth day for some reason so we should be there 5.5 weeks. I was thinking that I will have a different "work" place to go to each day and a different house to come home to at night, going to be very strange.

Although the stats class is hard, it sounds like you're enjoying it so thats good! Did I ever tell you the one of my sisters is an actuary?? (the stats made me think of that) Did you take the test?

So glad you got the fence completed, one less thing to worry about! Is Ibo spending alot of time outside? I had to laugh at the drying issue!

What a great lunch idea!! You have quite the reputation as a personal trainer! Hopefully the new lady does well, it sounds like she might not be quite ready for a change.

Forgot to tell you that we stopped by the house yesterday and they did the stonework on the fireplace, I love it!!! The are busy drywalling the basement so things are progressing!

Good Saturday!
Yall will never guess what is going to happen here tomorrow...SNOW! LOL SO it is sunny and 50 right now but it is supposed to be nasty and around 30 here tomorrow. Crazy weather , I tell you. I am sure all the kids are hoping it knocks school out for Monday but I am pretty sure it will be all cleared out by then and closer to normal. Still cold though.
This morning I did push/pull which I had not done in forever (love that one by the way) and then I did add on the fusion, so I am feeling pretty good about myself. I don't think it did me much good though because yesterday dh wanted to go to his favorite seafood buffet. It is laden with fried everthing, including fried corn on the cob:eek: Although I did real well by getting a salad to start out with, I did not do so well by getting a piece of fried chicken and 2 of their wonderful hush puppies:eek: I am feeling the bloat today and no it really wasn't worth it...lol
I am feeling my cycle coming on so no matter how well I eat I am going to be bloated anyway but that is no an excuse , hahaha, just a fact. :D

Kim-It sounds like you are getting a little more used to the idea of jury duty but I am sure it is going to be really weird after the move. It is funny how life throws us a curve ball like that sometimes but I know you are going to handle it just fine. Thanks for posting the link. I was going to try and look it up last night but did not get around to it. I no you are prohibited from talking about it but I have to admit I was curious about what the case was about. I also found it interesting how few the number of people that were called...I think the article said 54 or something like that. Here in my small little county they call a hundred or more for the smallest trials. So strange how different things are for us.

Jo-Yea Ibo can run off some of his night time energy outside without yall having to be there every minute. I am sure with everything else you have going on, this helps out so much.
I had to roll my eyes about your coworker that wants the help but thinks the lunch is too restrictive. Maybe she just didn't want the work of bringing lunch. Otherwise just the one healthy meal a day seems kind of crazy for it to be considered restrictive. Everyone must know you are the go to gal when it comes to health. I know that must feel good!;)

Cendrine-How is it feeling to be nearing the end of week one in your rotation? How is your back? Any problems?
I forgot to comment on the table. If your DH is anything like mine he was probably fuming! We have been putting something together before and gotten almost done to realize we did not have the right pieces.
We have also bought a refrigerator from Best Buy and gotten home and got it off the truck and onto the porch and then taken the box off of it and it was totally a different fridge!WHat was crazy was that the brand that was on the box was not the brand that was in it. On this deal though we actually ended up with a better one so I guess that kind of worked in our favor but it could have totally went the other way! Did yall get your replacement table yet?

Rachael, the jury pool was a few hundred (?300, I think) but the 54 is the number they went through before finding the lucky 14. The picked for another jury as well, that one was first and was very quick. I think they went through 18 people to find 14, it was an assault charge and the trial was only expected to be a week.

Have fun with the snow! I wonder how the dogs will like it? Most dogs like to play in the snow. So you finished week 1 of the rotation! Will you have a rest day tomorrow??

Tests are all done now (I got 100's! :D)! Yeah! Only 7 weeks to go...;)

Rachel, are you kidding me??? Fried corn on the cob? Oh my gosh! You deserve to splurge a little! ;) Snow - I can't believe it! You enjoy it while it lasts! Your weather has really had ups and downs temperature wise.

Kim, an actuary huh? Is she in the insurance industry? That's probably something I could get into. I love messing with number and slicing and dicing them. What does this jury situation do to you and getting the kids to school?

Hi Cendrine!

Dh and I are off to get vegetables. Ibo is digging being out running like a crazy boy!

Boy I've missed a lot since the last time I've been here! I kind of hit the ground running today and never stopped until now!

I did a tm walk with the vest in the 40/20 format using incline for the intensity, boy it got me good! I had to throw in a minute of recovery every ten minutes I felt so winded, and at the end I cheated a little and did two minutes as 30/30... but still, it was a great workout, and then I tacked on no equipment abs and stretch, all of which felt awesome! My legs are definitely sore from the disc 3 but notice I said sore and not I'm in pain, because that is literally what it was like last round and this round, now that I'm doing lighter weights, I can handle it much better, and obviously I'm still working hard enough to get some doms anyway. 1st week completed! YAY! Same thing again for me next week (I like knowing what's ahead before moving on to something new!

Kim, I read the article and it got me thinking. Too bad we can't comment about it here, I would have had some comments regarding a movie I saw recently, based on a true story regarding dna for criminal use. Very interesting. I'm glad you get some time to pack some more! Now it seems like more so important to get a head start! What will your hours be, do you know? What do your kids think about your jury duty?

We went to Ikea today and came home with a table and chairs! It's not a huge table but much bigger than what we have had and it can pull out to seat 8, which is nice when we have company. Dh is working on putting it together now! I'm excited, because it will match perfectly with the entertainment unit we got from Ikea a couple of years ago.

Rachel, snow? My kids would love that! And I second Jo, fried corn on the cob? Never heard of such a thing! But don't beat yourself up, a splurge like that isn't going to mess up all your hard work! Besides, sometimes it helps to be reminded, that no, it really isn't worth it.... LOL! I forget sometimes....

Jo, congrats on your awesome scores! Like I said before you are an amazingly hard worker! And personal trainer/accountability partner to boot! I love your lunch arrangement you have! What an awesome idea? I would be in in a heartbeat! You know that lady that thought it was too restrictive, I think, she is still so far away from 'normal' that she will probably keep loosing weight just staying away from soda and such... It takes a lot of calories to keep a body that heavy , so just cutting out some things will bring her results. Hopefully she'll be back when she hits that plateau where she is going to have to make more adjustments to keep loosing. Too bad about your other friend regaining 50lbs! I bet he wishes he had come to you at 10 and not at 50! I'm so lucky with my family, they really don't try to sabotage me much except when they want to go to a restaurant that has no healthy options, but that doesn't happen much. I guess they are just grateful there is food on the table and that I won't sacrifice tasty for healthy.... LOL!
I had to laugh too about Ibo being towel dried! And I'm so happy for you guys that he sleeps in now!
I'm amazed at what all you fit in your days, with the classes, the many tests in one week and helping out classmates on top of that! But I agree with you, I always ended up benefitting as much if not more when I helped my classmates in college study for a test or understand a concept!
Oh and by the way, I don't usually get eczema, the last time I had it was when I was pregnant with ds 7 years ago. So it's not something that bothers me often or comes on from stress or food. Would be nice to know what brings it on, and it sure would be nice if I didn't need to go get a prescription, but oh well...

DH is busy doing Slow & Heavy Chest and Triceps:p

Spent a long time doing address changes on the internet for all the new membership/reward cards/credit cards etc, didn't finish but got lots done.

Jo What about that football team of yours!! DH and ds were glued to the tv. My sister is a vice president of an insurance company (SGI) she is in property insurance. Congrats on your great marks!!! Well, the trial starts 7 working days before we move and DH was already planning on taking 2 days off to do some packing and stuff so that leaves 5 days. It sounds like court doesn't start too early so hopefully I can do drop off and then either they can go home with their cousins or my mom or MIL will pick them up. After the move they will be taking the school bus although it's really almost close enough to walk.

Cendrine Congrats on finishing week 1 of STS, I know how excited you must be!
They said court usually starts at 10 but to be there by 9:30 and of course we need to get there in time to go through security everyday but they'll never know what time it will end. There is a little room (very little) off the courtroom which is "our" room with a table, fridge and a bathroom They provide coffee, tea and bottles of water We're invited to bring books games, etc to the room as there will be lots of downtime.(no internet) I might be able to do lots of reading but the group seems very chatty and it's a TINY room. DS is fascinated by it all as he loves Law and Order but he knows I can't tell him anything but I did describle the whole jury selection in great detail and he loved that. I haven't talked to dd much as she gets freaked out easily, one day at a time for her. I explained what a jury was but I didn't tell her what kind of case it was.

Do we get pictures of the new table??

Rachael I've never heard of fried corn on the cob!!!
