STS 6 Month Alumni ***December 2011***

Sure hope your family isn't getting sick for Christmas Cendrine!

So glad that you are getting some relaxation time Rachael!!

Keeping up with the rotation this week with LIC on Monday, YogaMax yesterday and Trisets Lower Body tonight. We had our Christmas lunch at work today. Very yummy! I had a few treats but didn't go overboard. I got nice compliments on the little place settings gifts that I made. Of course a few people showed up that hadn't signed up or paid for the lunch:rolleyes::rolleyes: I don't get some people.

Monday evening I ran out and did some Christmas shopping so I think Im all done!

Everyone feeling better Cendrine?

Another little drama in my life today. I am fine! But I was hit by a car this morning. I was crossing the street in front of the hospital where I work. One of the doctors made a left turn, didn't see me and hit me!! He was driving a big SUV so my right arm took the impact. He saw me at the last moment and was braking so it was more of a bump. He knocked me to the ground, I was going to yell at him but he felt so bad and apologized a million times. In the end I was the one making sure he was okay, he was super upset. Of course a crowd gathered and everyone wanted to take me into the ER, which I declined I felt fine just very shaken up. I went inside, put on ice, calmed down, saw a couple of patients and then decided that my arm should get a xray. I called my family dr., got everything checked out, and there is no fractures! But my right arm is tender from shoulder to thumb! I think I"m going to be quite bruised by tomorrow. GOing to spend the weekend icing and taking some Advil.

Didn't have many plans for the weekend so going to keep quiet. OF course, I've been home for 45 mins, only lasted for about 30 mins on the couch. I get bored really easy.

Oh My Goodness!!! That is all I can say to that. I love how in the end you were consoling the doctor. I hope you are not feeling too banged up! Thank goodness he did see you at the end there!
I have got nothing really to follow that with!
Just been doing some cookies and just piddling. I need to clean house but it is so gloomy today that I have the "I dont wannas" So I think I will skip it for today. I got Jane Eyre in netflix so while DH is out I am thinking about curling up on the couch and watching that.
Kim maybe you should do the same!;)

Have a great day.

OMG, Kim! I'm so glad you didn't get seriously hurt! I second Rachel, watch a movie, do nothing, order take out!
a friend of mine had a biking accident and wasn't so lucky, shattered two vertebrae and is looking at a very slow recover, poor guy, at least he still has control of everything nerve wise, but I'm so glad you are ok!

Ds had a 6hr stomach bug, then was fine for a few days and woke up to a cough with all the nasties stuck in his throat, but all the rest of us are holding up.

My juicer came in two days ago and I've been having fun with it ever since! Everyone comes works it, the kids love putting veggies down the thing ;) first day I had pineapple, celery, carrots, kale, red pepper, pear and lemon for a juice. Second day we made more celery, kale, pepper, lemon, carrots, apple and grape. Everyone powered it down! Today we juiced up some watermelon with strawberries for a midmorning snack and because I went to the store, we had a super green drink from a recipe at luch, romaine, kale, celery, carrots, fennel, cucumber, apple and papaya, yum! Can you tell I'm having fun?

This wwkwnd is turning out to be a lazy one, it's nice that I don't have to be out shopping! We preordered a christmas meal from one of our favorite restaurants. It's just the four of us, and we all like their fare, even though it is vegan:eek: but we are looking forward to it. The dessert is a gingerbread cheesecake which I'm not crazy about, but they made an exception for me and let me swap it out for a chocolate lovers pie...lol

I geared up to try some more juice yesterday and dh said to make twice the recipe... little did we know the amount of juice just one recipe makes  ! We both had a 20 oz juice, the kids a 10 oz and there was still enough for 6 oz each that night... LOL I'm sticking to one batch from now on. It was yummy though, with beets including the leaves, which I have never eaten in my life, but it blend right in with the juice, added carrots, cabbage, swiss chard, apples and asian pears, I feel so healthy... ;) it's amazing how filling this juice is. Of course I had to balance all the healthy craze at our house by making some swiss style cinammon rolls and chocolate chip cookies, the ones with almond butter ;)

Kim, how's your arm and how are you feeling overall? I sure hope you don't have any delayed issues from the accident!

Rachel, are you still enjoying the season and not getting too wrapped up in what needs to get done?

Sounds like everyone is having a relaxing/lazy weekend.

You sure are getting lots of use our of your new juicer! I remember my mom cooking beet greens when I was young. I'm sure the cookies went very well with the juice! DD and I made decorated sugar cookies today.

Besides one trip to the grocery store, and some neighbourhood walks I've stayed home since Friday. When I sit and relax I feel fine but if I try some housework it doesn't take long till my arm starts to ache. I'm planning on going to work tomorrow but will take some Advil.

Well I think the aching is understandable since you were ran over by a car!;) Not too many people can say they just have a bit of an ache! One of my yoga teachers has an 88 year old student who fell off a 12 foot ladder right after Thanksgiving. Other than a pretty bruised up face, she had no other injuries. Not one broken anything! And she has already started back to her yoga classes. There is something to say about being fit! Falling off ladders and getting run over by cars and still kicking! LOL:D

DH is going to work with his mom this week to help her out but I opted out and decided that since I thought I was going to be off and sort of made my plans accordingly, that I am still going to take off. I just want to enjoy this week leading up to all the family stuff and not feel the rush. I think I am on track to do that. I will do a little each day and by Thursday, I should be right on track. I need to do my grocery shopping but I am trying to put that to the last minute so I do not have to freeze anything.
I think I will be hard pressed to do that on the beef tenderloin for Sunday though. I will need to call the butcher about that today.

Cendrine-I am super interested in how you are feeling after all the juicing..? I know that if I go a day or so and have not eaten very well I really think I can feel my body going down hill...I was wondering if it is just the opposite with having all those healthy juices. You might feel like super woman! Not to mention how your skin is going to look! I am just amazed that the kids do it too. Love that!!!

Kim-I hope you are not feeling like Roadkill;) In all seriousness, I am so glad the doc was slowing down when he hit you! Do you ever see him in the hospital? That next random meeting might be awkward. LOL

OK guys off to make some lists and start this day! Have a great one!
Rachel

:D:D:D:D Roadkill!:p:p:p

Just to clarify it was a light hit, the vehicle did not go over me. I was able to stop it with my right arm;);)
Went to work and did fine but decided to not workout yet as was kind of sore by the end of the day. I do realized that I was extremely lucky, it could have been much worse. It was a large SUV and if he was going at full speed, it might have been a whole different outcome.

That's a great way to prepare for the holidays Rachael! So much better than getting stressed out. I was finishing my gift shopping but DH still needed something for his mom and I decided to go along this evening. The mall is crazy!! Some good prices so we got her gift and also picked up a couple of new suitcases for the kids. I'm not going back to the stores this week! Just need a few fresh food items that I will pick up on Christmas Eve. (or I might just send DH).

I actually don't know the dr. that hit me but some of my coworkers do. He is a radiologist so not someone I would run into on a regular basis and it's a big hospital. I did notice his name on some xrays today. (Radiologists read the xrays). He was in such a panic, I don't think he would remember me.

The food around the hospital at this time of the year is so bad! Lots of chocolates from patients. Coworkers bring in cookies and treats. I've been pretty good but far from perfect. Now I'm taking a few days off from working out. I really don't want to gain back any of the 20lbs I just lost!!

Workout for me was afterburn today. Definitely gets me going ;)

I'm glad you are still taking it easy, Kim, and just tell yourself the goodies at work look a lot better on the plate than on you... ;)

I took the kids and a friend of ds iceskating today. It was lots of fun. I took them to the drive through for burgers and fries since it was past lunch by the time we were done. I was amazed that even though I was hungry I did not crave the fries and was able to wait until I was home. I made a juice from honeydew melon, cantaloupe, apples, swiss chard and kale. It was very sweet, ds's friend guzzled his down in less than 30 sec! Lol and he saw what I put in, no tricking him ;)
Rachel, I want to believe that the juicing is already making a difference, but usually it takes me a while to tell a difference, I guess I'm slow that way. But I tell you one thing though, my pants fit better! I kind of have swapped out lunch with juice and it's nicely filling, so I guess I'm not eating other things. Fine by me, I don't mind loosing rather than gaining weight this christmas season. Plus I've had none of the coughs and sore throats ds has been working on... fine by me too! Lol!

Cendrine, I am wondering if a juicer is what I need instead of a blender. I don't do the protein shakes anymore and I don't miss them at all. I would love to get more veges. in and I think that is a great way to do it...hmmmm...I am going to have to think that one over. Is yours easy to clean? My friend got the Jack Lalane one and it seems sort of a hassle from what she says but I am not sure if that is just because she is easily hassled by that sort of thing.

Kim-I of course got a good chuckle of your arm stopping the car.:D:D:D. Too funny. I agree...I am staying out of the stores from here on out. Luckily we have a pretty nice local grocery store that I can get any last minute items at rather than have to go to the "real" town and struggle with the crowds.

I got my entire house clean today and am ready to start all the baking tomorrow. I will do my little cookies tomorrow and then make the cornbread for the dressing for Friday. I think I have everything under control so I feel like I am sitting pretty (as they say down here in the south;)) I hope you all are having a stress free time of it too.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Rachel, I haven't been doing protein shakes for a long time either. I'm sure you would love juicing, it's actually a lot of fun to watch... ;) the kids still come running when they hear the juicer come on...lol!
I have an upright omega juicer, I think its one of the newest models out, and that one is easy to assemble, take apart and clean. The hardest part is the 'mesh screen', they give you a brush to get all te pulp out of the little holes, its not too bad but you can't just rinse, jou do have to scrub that part. Im really happy with it though, a lot less messy and timeconsuming than I would have thought.

Kim, how's your arm coming along?

Workout was lic, I'm really getting the hang of it now ;)

Cendrine:eek: I am embarrassed to say I have not even tried that one yet. It is the only one I have not attempted.I still need to watch it. Maybe I will go in there and do that in a minute.
Thanks for the input on the juicer. I am going to give it a look. I was also going to ask you if there is anything else you order from vitacost? I saw the deal on the coconut oil but want to get my order up for free shipping but don't know what else to get. Any suggestions?

Getting ready for a packed weekend. Got all the cookies either prepared to be baked or baked yesterday. Today I will need to do some of the other food prep for tomorrow but nothing too hectic. It is pouring down rain here so kind of icky weather but we need it so I am not complaining!

Hope all is shaping up for a wonderful Christmas for you all! TTYL

Rachel, if you take vitamins, you could order thr Liquid Health Complete Vitamins and give that a try, I also get all my herbal tea from them, raw organic chocolate powder, and I use some of the Alba skin products, such as one of their face washes and chapsticks from there, and if you want to splurge, they have the yummiest gluten free brownie mix, very easy to make and so good! ;) that should give you some ideas!

Gearing up to do total body trisets today.

I finally got back to working out today! It very felt so great! DD and I did Turbobarre. I'm feeling pretty normal today. The last couple of days my upper arm into my neck was quite sore and giving me a headache.

Last night was our 21st wedding anniversay and so DH and I went out for a nice dinner It was nice to have that quiet time together before the craziness of Christmas and then Disney especially as we are both going to be very busy at work the next week.

The kids had their last day of school today. DH and I work tomorrow and then have 4 days off work for Christmas.

Cendrine, this may be a dumb question but how is a juicer different than a blender. Could a make some of the same things with the Magic Bullet?? Maybe after our trip and I have more time I'll try out some of your recipes.
Iceskating is always fun, do you rent skates?
I think I've done LIC 4 times now and I'm getting the hang of it except for the last cardio section (with the hip hop repeater) I can't seem to get the hang of that routine.

Rachael What kind of cookies did you make? You sound like you are in the Christmas spirit! I am really excited for the holidays, only one more day of work!! Saturday and Sunday will be busy with family but Monday/Tuesday we can relax at home! I'm looking forward to both.

Kim-I made the orange pecan squares (that I posted a recipe of), some regular shortbreads, and some walnut ones, and then some good ole chocolate chip for the kiddos. It's funny the more I baked the less I wanted anything sweet at all! I think I could easily be a skinny baker. Now if I could just get that way with fresh baked bread smell...;)
I am so glad you are going to get a little break before a crazy week at work leading up to your vacation! Hopefully that is going to make all the difference!

Cendrine-Thankyou for all the ideas of what to look for. After this crazy weekend and I have some time, I am going to sit down and get busy placing an order. I really am so excited about that coconut oil! It is just crazy how expensive it is here. But in saying that though...I saw those same brands on that website for a comparable price so I am so glad they have that giant one.

Today starts the family events. I am really relaxed about the whole thing now. I think yoga is showing me how to slow down and really just enjoy what comes. It is nice that I am figuring this out now while my whole family can get together. Not everyone is so lucky and I am just realizing what a gift that really is. My sister has come in from Missouri every year and I just never thought about it before:eek:. We are lucky that all the siblings can get together and that our parents are still with us.
OK enough of that sentimental sappy stuff...;)
I hope yall all have a wonderful Friday leading up to a great Christmas weekend!
TTYL

Kim, I'm so glad you are feeling well enough for workouts! I hope whatever's left will recover quickly!
The difference between a blender and a juicer is that with the blender you still have the benefit of all the fiber, since it just chops the whole food into tiny pieces, but you do need some kind of liquid for blending, not that that's a bad thing. From a fiber standpoint, blending is better, but if you already get a lot of fiber, then adding juicing can be great because of the nutrients you get from a juice. A juicer extracts all the nutrients from the plant leaving only the fiber, which makes for a nice, smooth drink that's easy to swallow and supposedly the nutrients are more available for immediate absorpton which is said to be easier on the digestive system, although you might get some funny gurgles when you first start. Making a juice recipe in a blender isn't fun, I've tried it and never gone back...lol but I'd be happy to share my green smoothie recipes with you to try in your bullet ;) a juice just packs a more concentrated nutrient bomb without the bulk. It also means you go through more produce than when blending, which in turn makes juicing a more expensive health habit than blending. I probably wouldn't juice only, if I didn't already blend, blending is a more practical option all things considered.

Rachel, your cookies sound great, I kind of don't taste when I bake either.... I made two big batches of dh's favorite gingerbread cookie dough with the kids yesterday, it needed chilling, so will bake up one batch today and freeze the other for later.

Oh, Kim, the last segment on lic is the most challenging one for me too, I realized now that im getting the hang of it, that part of the issue is space for me when doing the walk over the corner of the step, pivot walk knee up thing... one side I keep running out of walking space because I collide with where my ball and weight tower is... lol

Merry early Christmas Eve morning!
First dinner done and 2 more to go...Isn't it weird that the older you get, it seems like Christmas is more about the food. LOL I feel like I have already eaten for days and we are just getting started. We have 2 more big dinners and I feel like I am in a food coma already. My body must be changing because I just really am not able to indulge like I used to. :p

Cendrine-That was an excellent break down of juicing and blending. I new that juicing removed the pulp but I did not think about it from the stand point you described it.

Kim-THanks for asking that because I would have never thought to and I learned something new today;)

I am so glad we have stuck together.!
I hope you are all enjoying family time Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Eve! It does seem to be about food...;)
I was reading christmas stories last night to find some to read to the kids tonight by candlelight.
We're having fondue tonight, so trying to take it light food wise until then... ;)

What a great explanation Cendrine! They did green smoothies at the hotel in Mexico last year and DH really enjoyed them. DH would all over green smoothies but I don't know if I want to invest in a juicer. When I get home from vacation I'll get the recipe and see if we could do it the magic bullet

Got to the grocery store early so it wasn't to busy and then came home and did Glide and Slide. Relaxing for a bit then I need to make scalloped potatoes and a salad to take to my sister's for dinner. Looking forward it should be fun. I put DH in charge of the salad and he found a recipe he liked which has alot of interesting ingredients (coconut flakes, avocado, kiwis, strawberries, different greens).

Hope everyone has a peaceful Christmas Eve and enjoys the special time with your family!

Typing from my new iphone
Going to take awhile to learn as I've never had a cellphone before but I'm having lots of fun figuring it all out
