***STS 6 month alumni****Dec12

Quick post for me...Sorry no post yesterday. It seemed like everytime I started one, I had to go do something or DH needed help with something. He is building a cabinet to go under our TV and it is a bit bulky to work with by himself.

I wrote my rotation down wrong, again:rolleyes: SO I was supposed to do 2 STS total bodies this week but skipped the one on Tuesday and now it looks like I have an extra day off so I moved todays workout to tomorrow and I am going to help DH finish the cabinet before it gets cold again.

Gotta go but I will try to be back later.
Have a great day!

Hi - well we're having problems with our wireless router so our internet has been off and on since that storm.

Kim, a gal that works in our Toronto office is on jury duty for murder trial and has been on that for about 2 months! I can't wait for the next TBL! It looks VERY interesting with the new trainers. I read that this next season is Jillians last.

Cendrine, can't wait to hear about the bulging disc solutions and if they help! Don't think you're feeling the effects more - it's because your body's not 100%! And you always have tons going on!

Rachel, hope you're feeling okay! I swear by Zicam so hope it's working for you!

I wanted to tell you more about my shoulder but will have to wait as I'm getting ready to go to the hospital for my surgery. With, prep, surgery and recovery I won't be home until the end of the day and they're doing my surgery in Seattle. So remember, if I am able to post tonight, I'll be on drugs (in case I say anything stupid!) LOL! Be back soon!

Everyone have a good day!! (Oh, no dog yet!)

Good luck with your surgery today, Jo! I know you probably aren't in to read this but I'm thinking of you! I'm sorry you still have trouble with the wireless... We got rain during the night too, but nothing stormy at all.
You made me feel a lot better pointing out that I'm just not 100% rather than that it's me getting older... even though I am actually getting older....;)
So I ordered several supplements to add to my regime to help the healing process. Should be here in a few days, and now I have to figure out my routine.

Rachel, it sure sounds like dh is very handy making things, is he a carpenter or does he just figure stuff out as he goes? Dh here figures things out as he goes. Very functional stuff he has made around here and when it needs to it also looks nice....LOL!

I am still in my pjs... But we finished school and had lunch, just didn't shower yet...LOL! I taught ds and dd how to wrap their christmas presents. They made handprints in plaster of paris (I don't remember if I told you) and today we wrapped them, put labels on them and ds even learned how to tie a ribbon around it and curl it! He's thrilled!
I'm always amazed at how much the kids want and will learn if you just take the time to slow down and coach them.
ds has started training for better endurance, so he is running on the treadmill at 4mph every day. Every other day or so I sneak an extra minute on his timer, so he still thinks he's just doing a little but in fact he's doing more all the time not even noticing it....LOL Yes, I admit to being sneaky;)
Well, I better go hit the shower before it gets any later!

Good Friday!!!

Man I feel like this week has just flown by! I feel like I should have all kinds of free time but it seems like I have just been busy busy. I think it is one of those the more time you have sort of things but I really don't feel like I have had much down time! And here I am the least busy of all of us right now...esp. when it comes to anything important.

Jo-I hope you are feeling like you are already on your way to recovery. It seems like surgery day got here fast too. SO how are you feeling today and when do they think you will be up and around and back to a more normal sort of schedule? Don't forget to tell us about the PT when you have time and feel like it.
I think Zicam did really help but when I thought I felt better I quit and now I feel like it is trying to just hang on a bit. How long do you take it for? I think I might even be getting a cold sore but I might just be paranoid since that is what happened last year with the last cold I had. The sucky thing is I never even really got that snotty or anything!

Cendrine-When I read about all of your homeschooling projects I am just so impressed! You are really doing it the right way. I think there is definitely a stigma with kids who are home schooled, missing out on something ...but I think your kids are actually getting a more rounded school experience than maybe if they went to conventional school. It sounds like you make it so fun and even throwing in practical knowledge that they would not get at school! I just am so impressed everyday by all the effort you put into it. I know it can not be easy at all!
DH is pretty hany...He is not a carpenter at all but he is just so darn talented that he can figure out most anything if he looks at it long enough. I on the other hand am not talented in that way at all..I need written instruction for the most part! Hahaha. So on that way he sounds alot like your DH.
When it is all done and in place I will definitely post a pic. It is very rustic and fits right in with everything else.

Kim-I bet your body is still trying to recover from your vacation. It always takes me a while. It seems like kids still bounce back a little faster than we do.
I have been called to jury duty a bunch and have been able to get out of it sometimes and then other times I have had to just appear and mostly have been dismissed. One time it was for a man who was on trial for being inappropriate with his step daughter...they asked if anyone felt like they could not be partial and I felt I couldn't so I was excused. That was the closest I have some to serving, thank goodness! With our job it takes the both of us most of the time and it would be hard to be tied up in that sort of thing for a long period of time.

Today I got back to it with Boot CAmp from 4DS...just the cardio...I was feeling a little guilty about messing up the rotation this week...not guilty but I am not sure of a word for it. I guess I always feel like I am going to gain something if I do the rotation right and when I miss something it feels like I am going to miss out on a gain...

Well off to the grocery store for me...Have a great Friday!

Oh dear, just hit the wrong button and my nice post disappeared!

Well, short story, Rachel, try to Zicam two days past the day you feel you are back to normal! And thanks for all your positive comments about my homeschooling efforts! Makes me feel so good!;)

Jo, I hope your surgery went better than expected and hopefully your wireless will behave itself too! The sweet potato chips I made are finally done. I had to dehydrate them really long, probably because I spread them too thick, so if you want to save time, spread it medium thick, but not so thin that it just becomes paper once the moisture is gone....;)

Kim, did you get excused from jury duty or are you going to have to show up?

Well, surgery over! As it turned out we were at the hospital until midnight last night. I was in pre-op at 12:30 but my surgery didn't start until about 2:00. I guess I went to recovery around 4:00 and then when I was in the 2nd stage recovery, DH was brought in. That was about 6:00. So now, I'm dressed and ready to go and they say I can't go until I pee. Okay...I think no problem as I'm the queen of pee - I mean I'm the girl that knows where every restroom is in the mall and strategically park to hit the restroom on the way in and the way out...Right? WELL my body wasn't giving it up! So finally about 11:30, they used the catheter and sent me home. They said if I didn't pee on my own the next morning I had to come back. Truth is, I think the pain medication and anethesia is what messed me up. The nurses said it happens all the time. Well, long story short. I got up and peed this morning! Yeah! So actually I'm doing really well. I haven't had any pain medication since last night. I feel like I've done about a year's worth of ab work! I have 4 little incisions and my belly around my navel is kind of swollen but other than that I feel pretty good. Maybe just a little tired.

So then this afternoon...since I was feeling so good and DH felt he could leave me; we decided to get IBO!!! So DH went and got him and he's home with us! He's settling right in and happy about having a home! So more stories of Ibo to come! Oh, and the guy came to measure for the fence...they start putting it in on Tuesday.

Rachel, don't give yourself a hard time about the rotation! I know what you mean though...I feel that way too when I mess up a rotation! LOL! I guess we're crazy that way! On the Zicam, you got to keep with it all the way through the cold. Your DH and my DH sound the same about figuring things out! I am always amazed at what he can do when I think we might have to hire someone!

Cendrine, how fun for the kids with the hand prints! The kids are like little sponges aren't they? Just love learning new things! You're right, if you take the time to coach them, it's amazing how well they do! And I agree with Rachel, you are amazing at what you're doing with your kids. I want you to homeschool me!! You have the funnest projects!

I'm going to go get in bed. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Oh I forgot one thing...remember Ibo doesn't understand English! So DH and I have this list of commands in German we're trying to learn but really need to have someone teach us so we say them right! We're a couple of goofs - trying to get him to sit...we just keep trying the pronunciation and then know we get it right when Ibo obeys! LOL! He's looking at us like we're a couple of idiots! But overall, he's a very obediant dog and I LOVE HIM! We're going to teach him the commands in English, but it's fun! He's a GREAT DOG! And, already following DH everywhere he goes!

TTYT!

Ibo is settling in. This morning he's definitely a member of the family! You can tell he's very happy to have a home again! LOL! He and DH just went to Home Depot. I've got a couple of the commands down for sit, down and heel. He found my 4 lb medicine ball last night and I had to hide it from him as he thinks it should be his! LOL! It'll be good once we get the fence in and he can be outside with his own ball!

DH put the tree up for me so I just finished putting what decorations I could on it. We have another big wind storm coming in so it's a good day to hunker down with a fire! I'm going to dehydrate some apples with cinnamon. Cendrine, forgive me if you told us, but how did your sweet potatoe experiment turn out?

I got my shipping notice that my calendar shipped so I'm anxious to see what we get this year! Happy Saturday everyone!

Sorry, I haven't been around much this week. I've been just dragging this week. Lots of bugs around the hospital so maybe I was fighting something, or maybe it was post holiday depression:rolleyes:

I finally did a workout this morning. I did STS Total Body and my quads are feeling it! I'm finding all these new workouts very intense! Hope to try the lower body workout tomorrow!

Jo Sounds like the surgery went fairly smoothly! Are you on some pain meds? Hope to hear more "baby" stories over the next few weeks!

Cendrine LOL on the extra time on ds's workout! That's great that he's interested in running!

Rachael Don't feel guilty about messing up the rotation. THere is enough other things in life to feel guilty about, LOL

What's everyone doing for the holidays?? I get a 5 day weekend!!! I think we get a longer Christmas break up here in Canada than you do in the USA as we have Boxing Day. Have 3 family events over Christmas eve and Christmas day and might do some shopping on Boxing day. Then some quiet days at home. I got off easy this year and I"m not hosting anything like I usually do. So only have to prepare a couple of things to take places.

Since swimming lessons are over and dd's piano teacher was sick, I got lots of downtime today. Got lots of errands/housework done this morning and then this afternoon dd and I made Christmas cookies. I like baking but hate doing anything fussy so I made the dough/clean up/oven removal and she cut out the cookies and decorated them. She loved it! She has way more patience then I do.

Kim, it seems its that season isn't it? Lots of bugs going on around here too! That was one thing I didn't like about being at the hospital...I'm afraid I'll catch something! LOL! Of course I was only in the surgery area so my chances are slimmer. It's interesting how the holidays give people the blahs. Just think next year you'll get to spend it in your new house! Maybe you're feeling a little nostalgic this season too. I'm just taking some ibuprohpen but no heavy pain meds. They gave me some but I haven't needed them since Thursday and today I just have had two ibuprophen. So the pain has been really minimal considering. I mean I'm sore, but it's probably nothing compared to what a lot of people deal with.

I put four trays of apples in the dehydrator and made some kale soup so I'm giving my body lots of nutrients to heal! But then I've been relaxing since soup. I want to make sure I don't overdo and mess something up! We've been playing lots with Ibo too. DH and I got online to figure out how to pronounce some of his commands. Just so you know his name is pronounced "eebo" (we did have that right already!). LOL!

Oh and Kim, we were maybe going to my mom's in Oregon but not sure. We may go after Xmas (next Sunday) as ss has to work on the 24th. We'll see...

Jo, congratulations on getting Ibo! How fun! He sounds like a wonderful dog and is so lucky to have a great home with you guys! I had to laugh about you needing to save your medicine ball from him...LOL Just like baby proofing the house!

Apples with cinnamon sounds wonderful! And yes, the chips turned out great, but be prepared to dehydrate a looooong time! LOL! Or spread them thinner than I did. I wish I could tell how thick/ thin I did them but it is really just an eyeballing thing, so it is probably going to be different every time. But they finally are crunchy and taste fantastic!

I'm glad to hear your surgery went well, and that you seem to be doing really well, from the sounds of it without pain medicines already. Really awesome!
Oh, and if you need help with pronunciation for doggie orders, just give me a call, I can help you with that! :)

Kim, I'm with you when it comes to cookies, make them as easy as possible...LOL! I used to care about presentation, but at the rate they are disappearing at my house, I have stopped to care...LOL! I know for sure that dd when she is a few years older will love to cut out and decorate the cookies though. She already loves cutting them out now, and decorating will be in her near future. Before I know it, I'll be paying her to make the cookies and I'll relax with a book....LOL!

We are doing a fondue Christmas Eve with dd's godfather and his girlfriend, the next day dd's godmother will join us for the day but no family will be here, and we may be or not be going to Bellevue later in January. Things are crazy at dh's work. Several guys are venting to him about how they are not sleeping, gaining weight, loosing hair and needing to get on prescription drugs to deal with the stress they are under. I'm glad that I can help dh with healthy foods at least. And he is trying hard to keep the exercise going, but he is definitely feeling it too. He's a super trooper though.

The book I'm reading about healing bulging discs has helped me figure out what brought on the flare ups in the past! I'm excited because I had no clue and now I know and can be proactive and hopefully get some long term healing started! YAY!
