~~~>STS 6 month Alumni-Aug.8<~~~
It sure is quiet around here without the kids, they're at my MIL's cottage at the lake for a few days. After 2 weeks together I sure miss them. Back to work today and it was fairly quiet there too:confused: This evening I'm being lazy, the house is clean, I can't work out, it's pouring rain, no kids so what to do:eek:
Cendrine You know they never told me about the no direct sunlight for 6 months after the right eye surgery! I'm not sure if I would have made a different decision if I had known. So you got some extra relaxing time on the deck! Is your house all super clean now?
Rachael That pizza sounds absolutely yummy! It sounds like something off a fancy restaurant menu. I love fancy pizzas!
Jo That's great that you were able to do a upper body workout! Are you done with physiotherapy??
I just got back from my bike ride with dd. I ran into a few of ds' boy scout friends who were doing a make up bikeride, what a coincidence... I added an extra loop to my route that was mostly uphill, which got me pumping good!
Kim, are you allowed to read and watch tv yet after your surgery? If so, that is what I would be doing with a clean empty house....;)
My house is really clean now upstairs, but downstairs still needs to get done. But I am very pleased with the carpets upstairs! I used a different shampoo for it this time and it seems to me it did a lot more cleaning! Yay! I really want to keep momentum and do the downstairs but my back is feeling it so I better take it in stages and do the downstairs one area at a time not like the marathon I did upstairs....:eek:
Rachel, I'm glad you got inspired to clean out your pantry, it's a good opportunity for me to do the same.... but it's a pain, I have to even pack up all the spices and emergency food in the garage etc... But still, it will be good, a little forced spring cleaning....:)
Jo, no need to feel sorry for laughing about my being locked out, I thought it was pretty funny myself...:D
Tomorrow I am taking the kids to the beach, friends of ours are all going but I don't know how nice it will be, it has been overcast in the mornings and I know it is even more so at the beach.... I'll bring sweaters just in case... It is august in California for goodness sakes!:eek:
Good Wednesday!
This week is really flying by for me!
This morning it was GS legs and whoo wee is about all I can say...I got through the standing part and thought alright...here comes the floor exercises, I think those were tougher than the standing! All except for those slow lunges.4 counts down, 4 holding, 4 low ends, and then 4 up...4TIMES! :eek: I am already feeling it so I know I have some severe DOMS in my future but it sure does feel great to be working out with a rotation for the whole body again! SO far no weird pains any where.
We are just waiting for the truck to get done today. I had an appointment to bring it in on Monday anyway and they just started working on it today:mad: don't you love that! What is even better is that the "part" that is messed up is something below the fuel filter and for some reason is not covered by the warranty. I love how when they sell you the thing they like to brag about the warranty and then when it comes to fixing it it seems to never be covered! Oh I wish I knew a little about everything!:rolleyes:
Cendrine-I would love to send you some of my sun! I am just hoping we get some rain from the tropical depression that is in the gulf. I hate it for the oil clean up but we are desperate for some relief from the heat. I am thinking I need to move to a cooler climate! Of course it will be nice for while when fall hits so I will just bide my time!
Have fun at the beach and way to go on pushing yourself on the bike ride!
What was the name of the new shampoo?
Kim-The pizza even looked fancy..LOL But I promise there was nothing to it at all! It did taste very special though!
I hope you found a way to enjoy the quiet house. I am definitely a little like that. I get used to always going and going that when we finally get a break, I don't know what to do! haha I am trying to do a little something each day that makes me feel very accomplished.:rolleyes:;):D
Jo-How is your arm after MM today? I am still feeling gs from Monday pretty good! I have been meaning to ask (and forgetting) how is DH and his recovery? Is he all healed?
If I want to be productive I better go LOL
TTYL
Well don't ya know it...I have the weirdest luck trying to post sometimes! So this morning I'm writing a beautiful post to you guys when suddenly my entire computer shuts down (doing Microsoft updates!). So I didn't have time to wait for it to do all its configuring and had to leave!
Yesterday I totally forgot it was Tuesday when I decided to do MM...as I had spinning last night too! Great spin by the way. Anyway so I'm taking today as a rest day. My shoulder seems to feel better after having worked it - better than after PT. Kim, yes I'm still going to PT, twice a week until the end of the month. I don't know if it's helping or not. I do have more range of motion on the external movement but it still hurts a lot. DH saw the Dr last week and he said he doesn't need to go to PT anymore and basically he's "good to go!" He has all of his range of motion back and has very little pain. Just still a little stiff and has exercises to do.
Cendrine, you are a cleaning machine! LOL! Have fun at the beach today and hope it warms up for you! It's supposed to be in the 90's here this weekend and it's beautiful CA weather here today!
Kim, yes, what can you do? I can imagine you're itching to workout! I hate being bored!
Rachel, I recently threw out some old canned goods that were dated 2004! LOL! Crazy huh? Glad you're feeling okay from your workout too! Oh yes...car warranties...scheesch! The warranty parts are always better than all the other parts!
Gotta run! TTYL!
The protective lense is out and it didn't even hurt!:D I guess it really needed that extra 2 days of healing. I can pretty much do anything now except stuff like waterslides, downhill skiing, etc. The sun still really bothers my eyes so driving is hard and I find I can only read a few pages at a time. Both these things will take a few weeks to get back to normal. It takes 4-8 week post-op to get full vision. I think I'll get back into working out tomorrow. Maybe the Body Blast timesavers series for the next week. Got to go have a look at them.
DH and I went out for dinner after my appointment. Kind of a date night:) It sure is quiet around here. :( I spoke with the kids this evening and they are having a great time with Grandma and Great-Grandma (DH's mom and grandma) that they want to stay until Firday:( I'm missing them but I'm glad that they are having this bonding time.
Jo Sorry about the post! How frustrating! That's great that your DH is graduating from physio!
rachael I remember those slow lunges on GSL!! When she picks up the 5 lb weight you think how hard can these be?? How frustrating on the truck warranty:mad: Did it get fixed!
Cendrine How did the beach go?? What I'm missing most is the reading! I love to read for about a hour before bed each night. I only read a few pages and then my eyes get blurry:( Then if I keep trying to read I get such a headache. TV watching is okay but not that many good shows on.
DH and I went to check on the house after dinner, still just a foundation:mad: I know it had to dry for a couple of weeks but it's been three. I'm trying not to get frustrated with the process but goodness it's slow. Our housing market is booming ( no recession up here really). Last month set a record high number of new housing starts so I know the housing companies are just overwhelmed as it's in the news all the time but it's so hard being patient.
Kim, I just read an article that we are starting to run out of room here in California because the housing market has come to a standstill. There are several areas here that were planned for housing and now it's just sitting there waiting for better times. I guess if people come knocking on our door asking if we want to sell, I'll tell them to go up your way....LOL!
I'm glad your lens is out, nice progress and how fun that you can get back into exercising now! I would be frustrated to only read a few pages, I'm a by the hour reader like you! It's almost not worth it for just a few pages, isn't it?.... So maybe you can catch up on scrap booking? Your date sounds pleasant, we need to go on one soon too!
Rachel, I am thinking of doing Gs series after this month, I'll remember your review of it and go light, really light! LOL!
I think the shampoo I used for the carpet was by bissel, a 3x strenght or something. I like it!
Jo, how fun that dh is all done with PT! He must be excited, it seems like he had a rather fast recovery, I thought I remembered it was going to take a year at least, or has it already been a year? MM and spinning all in one day, sounds fun to me! Sorry about the post!
I skipped workout today choosing to listen to my body and it was telling me it needed a break. The sun did come out at the beach and we had fun, dd does not care for the ocean so she and I played with a beach ball, made sand castles and flew a kite (it was very windy and chilly for my liking so I kept the sweater on the whole time.... but at least the sun was out!) Ds got into the water and got himself breaded with sand! I can't stand it so before going into the car I made him shower at the beach showers....;) I ran into a dear friend that I didn't expect to see at the beach and it was so refreshing chatting with her, so it was a fun outing for me too even though I really don't like the beach... But we all left happy.
I made the sweet potato hash from CE last night and it is a real keeper, you guys! yum! and today I tried the saffron sauce for the pasta with the kale and broccoli, currents and pinenuts, it was really good to , if you like saffron on your pasta. We had a friend over for ds and he took one look at it and decided to pass...LOL He had toast with raspberry fruit spread....LOL I have nothing kid friendly in this house that he would have liked... I forget sometimes how impressive it is that my kids eat everything clean I make all the time when I see how friends won't even try it....:rolleyes:
Max Int strenght for me tomorrow. and a bike ride at night.
Well we decided to go to MT tomorrow for a long weekend! So I have to get to bed as we have to be gone early for our all day drive. I'll get caught up with you tomorrow night if possible...otherwise Friday. Happy Thursday to you all tomorrow!
Have a great weekend, Jo!
I just completed Max Int Strength, it was good and I think I can go up in weights again on Friday.... yay. I can tell the difference in appearance in my arms already, now that I'm doing weights again, even if they are light ones, but they are getting heavier all the time, I'm feeling great. I think my legs will start responding more when I can go heavier for them as well. But heavy on my legs is tough on my back, so I have to take that one slow even though I want to jump right in...
I don't have too much planned today, we'll see what the day brings, other than clouds and cold....:rolleyes:
Yes What Cendrine said , JO!! DIDO I guess!;)
Kind of a late first checkin for me...I wanted to get some town errands ran before it got too hot...Well there is no beating the heat around here. It was 100 when I was on my way home right before 11am! yuck!
So not too much going on around here either. I am just hanging out and trying to plan some projects for the cooler weather if we ever get any!:rolleyes:
GS Back shoulders and bi's today and it was great. Like Cendrine I am feeling great about getting back to my workouts!
Cendrine-I am not sure that I have ever done MIS. I am pretty sure I have it, I just have not done it. I might have to try to squeeze that into my next rotation somehow.
Oh yea and now I can't wait for DH to get home because the CE mag is in the truck from when we went on vacation and I am dying to really dig into it. The sweet potato hash sounds like something I would dive into face first..LOL
I think you are very lucky with your kids trying all the foods you put in front of them. In my limited experience it seems like most will hardly eat anything that looks remotely healthy! Your poor ds's friend probably did not know what to think about the dinner!:p
Kim-Isn't it amazing what a difference 2 days made in how your eye felt!? I bet you can't wait to SEE things with out your glasses. Just think you will never go blind when you open the stove and your glasses fog up! LOL I think it is very brave of you to have the procedure. I would have been very nervous about it.
Don't worry, Friday will be here before you know it. In fact it will be here tomorrow! The kids will be home and probably all their friends over too and the house will be full again. Enjoy tonight!;)
Jo-Oh I wish I was with you...Have you seen the show on Animal Planet called "Last American Cowboy". It is a reality show about 2 different ranches in MT. It is just so beautiful there. I will make a trip there one day. I think DH and I should do a road trip and see WY, MT, WA, OR, and the northern coast of CA. Maybe we should fly up there and then rent a car...SO we will not be worn out by the time we get there!
Have a great weekend!
TTYL
Sorry I didn't check in yesterday. A couple of coworkers and I decided to go out for drinks after work on the spur of the moment which led into dinner;) After I got home I did KPC! It felt great to work out but I felt a kind of heavy and clumsy:(
The kids should be home this afternoon!:D:D:D I'm going to try and get groceries and do a workout this morning before they get home.
Jo Hoping you're having a great time!
Cendrien It is very impressive what your kids eat, it's all what they are used to! My kids are so use to eating wholewheat pasta/bread/rice and lots of veggie, they will eat it. But when cousins or friends come over, I can tell that they don't like it.:rolleyes: Oh, I never thought about scrapbooking, I'm pretty close to being up to date. Maybe I should think about that for this weekend.
Rachael So when does the heat usually start letting up in Texas? Any plans for the weekend?
Very few plans for the weekend for us. DH had taken today off as we were supposed to do another 3 day camping trip which I cancelled. Since MIL invited the kids to her cottage for the week it would have been shortened anyways. Also lots of rain in the forecast for the weekend and my eye is still so sensitive if I'm outside very long. I had booked 9 weekends away in a row which was a bit much so we'll enjoy a weekend at home and then get back into our weekend travels.
Kim, I think it is a good idea that you took the weekend to stay home and rest the eye and the kids.;) I am not sure when the heat will let up. It is normally hot but not this many days being above 100. It was 113 yesterday:confused:. Absolutely miserable to be outside!
It was LIC for me today. Just the time saver cardio blast. That one is still a toughy. I like it but the name is deceptive:D
DH and I have been talking about starting the flooring in the house so I think that is coming up. I am not sure if we are going to wait till Monday to get started or start this weekend.
He has been researching day trips for us and talked about going to visit some ghost towns in this area. I am not 100% sold on that one since it is so hot. I love to drive around and soak in the sights but he is talking about taking our friends and their metal detector and looking for "treasure":rolleyes: I think it is going to be too hot for all that!
Hope yall have a great start to your weekend!
TTYL
I just finished my workout, 30 min brisk walk at medium incline with handweights and then 30 min interval medium /high incline... I'm a sweaty mess right now...LOL But if I go into the shower by body will just keep sweating so I need to wait and cool off some more, so I'm posting...LOL! I also did a bike ride last night with dd. She is such a talker when she's riding with me! When I started adding the longer loop she said she didn't know what all to talk about anymore since I was biking so long....:D I suggested she sing me a song and so she sang me the little teapot probably 20 times...LOL I better teach her some more songs for variety....:rolleyes:
This weekend will be busy packing up all food and cosmetics into the gas safe bags, and I'm planning on cleaning out the cabinets while I'm at it... sort of a semi spring clean of sorts.... I am also finally finsihing an album I've had out forever, then I'm cleanig up the scrapbook table to make room for our piano school program.
Kim, enjoy your down weekend, it should be nice catching up with your kids and giving your eyes some extra time to heal! I am absolutely impressed with the weekend camping schedule you are keeping! The kids must love all the activity! It's so cool that your kids are so used to whole wheat that they don't think twice about eating it. It's like you said, if they are used to it, that's what they know. If it wasn't for the occasional restaurant outing, I don't think my kids would even remeber what refined carbs taste like...LOL¨
Ds wrote a pre-assessment writing assignment yesterday. For the writing beginning next week we are starting a unit on how to organize your thoughts and how to write well. They recommended having a pre-sample writing to see how far we have come in a month. I'm all excited to get started, wish I'd have been taught how to write like that when I first started. Would have taken a lot of guesswork out of it....
Rachel, I hope you don't have to be outside this weekend with these temperatures! If you do, you need to have a spray bottle with you to keep misting yourself with! :cool: I made the fish recipe from ce yesterday, the one with the summer vegetable ratatouille. I was able to use some of our own tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and pepper for it! It was very tasty, I particularly liked the marinade for the fish. What are you thinking you will try out of the magazine?
Jo, I hope you are having a great time in MT!
Well I am trying to talk myself into a workout but I just don't have the mental energy.
There was a tragic accident Thursday night that took the life of one of my high school friends. I have not talked to her physically in years but we have talked through face book and we have mutual friends that are just devastated. She had four beautiful children and husband who loved her. She was the funniest person I think I have ever known and only 33.
The terrible part is how she passed away. She was in training to become an EMT so she was overnighting at the firehouse and a generator on the ambulance was leaking. All the doors were down and so there was no place for the fumes to go. She was overcome by the carbon monoxide. 2 other men had to be admitted into the hospital. My SIL said that women are more likely to die first due to their size compared to a man.
It is just so tragic. I can not imagine how shocking it is for her family.
Oh how devestating for you Rachael!! Those poor kids! What a tragedy for everyone involved! When there is a death of someone you know even if you are not close to them, it sures shakes you up. ((HUGS)) to you today.
We had a nice day hanging out as a family yesterday. I ended up taking ds to the bank to get his first bank card:confused: Then we watched our football team lose (on tv).
I did Supersets yesterday and I'm feeling it today! I guess with doing the Insanity rotation there isn't any weights so I really have DOMS today. I had mentioned about doing the Body Blast timesavers then realized I had time this week to do the full workouts. So I'm working through the BodyBlast dvds this week. ALready did KPC, Supersets and today is Step, Jump and Pump. This whole series is so much fun and I"ll finish just before our next trip away.
Rachael The ghost trips sound like fun!! Just maybe in cooler weather:confused: What rooms are you redoing the flooring in and what kind of flooring??
Cendrine I sure giggled about the little teapot song so cute!! maybe you can learn some new songs to go with the piano songs you are learning. Sounds like you will be busy this weekend! How long will you be out of the house?
Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, and what a huge shock and tragedy! Too bad they did not have monitors at the fire house! I'm so glad we have them in our house. How old are the kids? I always feel worst for the kids, although I know how terrible it is for the husband, but at least he's a grown-up. Does he have family to help him cope?
After news like that I would not much feel like working out either.
Kim, your ds is just growing up and up! Bank card! Wow! I don't have the whole body blast series, but I sure love the step jump and pump one, great music on that one! One of these days I'll complete my collection. I'm scheduled to do body max1 today, minus the cardio. I'm feeling migrainy, so I probably should take something before I start.
I managed to clean out all the pantry items yesterday and tossed some stuff that we simply have not been using. Still is amazing, all the stuff we have when you take it out. Today dh is going to go through the medicine cabinet and maybe the emergency food supply in the garage.
We'll be gone about 2.5 days, two nights at the hotel and then however long until they clear the house on day 3. We leave on Wednesday and should be back in Friday after noon. If I don't post you'll know why. The kids are alredy looking forward to the hotel breakfast....LOL They make eggs to order and stuff like that. I also got my latest scrapbook project done and cleared the table for school. So I feel quite accomplished!
Hi Jo!
Been raining all weekend so I'm glad that we cancelled our camping trip. The rain/dreary weather just makes me feel lazy so trying to get the motivation up to do Legs and Glute.
Yesterday I did SJ&P, I love the music on this one too, Cendrine!
In the afternoon yesterday, we went and bought ds a trumpet as the old school provided them but the new school doesn't. :rolleyes: I also spent lots of time reseraching different Caribbean resorts for a possible holiday this winter:D Also spent some time helping a friend plan a Disney trip. Then in the evening we went to my sister's for a family get together for my nephew's 7th birthday. So a relaxed, fun day.
Very little on the agenda for today which is nice.
Cendrine, is there a pool at the hotel you're staying at??
