Strength gains with Cathe and your one-rep max?

Hi all! I was wondering how people found that the gains they made with Cathe's tapes corresponded to their one-rep max in the gym. I'm following a workout thread on another website and EVERYONE talks about their one rep maxes and that got me curious. Despite the fact that I workout nearly every day, I have utterly no idea what my max squat or bench or leg press is since I lift exclusively in my home. How does everyone here find that what they lift with Cathe affects how heavy they can go in the gym?

I don't know how people are testing their 1-rep max, because it can be very risky to find the weight that you can lift for only one rep. I've seen charts in books that show how you can guesstimate your 1-rep max based on your 5 or 10 or other rep maxes, which is safer'

I've never figured out my one-rep max, but I do keep track of how much I can lift with each workout. I haven't noticed the same progress with Cathe workouts, but with P90X, I was able to increase my weights and/or reps on exercises with almost ever workout.

YOu've got me curious now. I think I'll dig through my "fitness library" and find some of those charts and figure out my 1-rep maxes on some exercises.

RE: One-rep Max Calculator

Great link, Trevor. Thanks!
The only problem is the reps you calculate can only be between 1 and 10, and I can't calculate 35# for 16 reps (my 1-arm lat row weight).

Guess I still need to dig out those books!

RE: One-rep Max Calculator

Well now Kathryn, you are just going to have to get some heavier weights going in order to get you under ten reps! Go heavy girl!!
Or.....you can dig your books out! LOL!
:p
