CNN and Fox are reporting that hikers have found items belonging to explorer Steve Fossett in Mamouth Lakes, CA.

His wife had him declared dead recently I believe.

Any thoughts?

I pulled up an article about this that described what they had found. How weird? If they are finding his stuff, where is the plane? I wonder if the plane went down and he survived for a while and tried to hike out.

This is not really my theory, but it's fun to think about. He was a super duper adventurer. Maybe he faked his own death, disappeared somewhere, and planted these items to make people think his plane crashed in the Sierras. The list of items seems just a little TOO obvious - wallet, t-shirt and something else personal can't remember what it is, almost like it had been placed there.

Somewhere - can't remember - seems like The Smoking Gun or something like that - it was theorized that he stashed a bunch of money in over seas accounts, left enough for his family here and took a powder. It was also rumored that he had a long time mistress.

It is very weird though. . . .

I just heard on the radio that they have confirmed his plane wreckage has been found.

ETA: However, no human remains were discovered. So he could still be out there somewhere.
