Step not my cup of tea

After viewing several tapes (including Cathe's) I'm finding that I don't particularly like stepping. I find that I'd rather just do free dancing to some really energizing songs. Though I like dancing, remembering choregraphy has never been my strong suit. Does anyone else feel this way?

I can't say that I feel the same way. I LOVE stepping and anything by Cathe. Now to put that in perspective. I went to a very strict private school and never learned to dance so I was thrilled to do the "running man" in SJ&P! I actually laugh out loud and get all excited thinking I'm all that! So to me this is dancing! Crazy huh?!

Can't say I don't like stepping, I haven't really gotten to do any of it yet, except for the warm up on MIS. My step isn't long enough for the step workouts. So I am waiting till hubby can make me a good one.... Rhonda :7

Well, I am not sure I like stepping either, but I really haven't done enough of it to know for sure. I've tried Step Works, Body Max and MIS, and watched a few of Cathe's tapes on FitTV. I'm willing to give it a try, but I must say I prefer the weight training and kickbox type tapes to begin with.

Hello!

I must say that I use to hate step workouts. (would only do the firm because they were pretty basic) but since I've discovered Cathe I LOVE her step workouts. They are wonderful and so much fun once you learn them!

I've always loved stepping. But after viewing Cathe's workouts online for the first time, I was very intimidated by her choreography and was not interested in getting her step workouts. But I gave it a chance. Got cardio hits and took two weeks learning Power Max. Once I got that down pat, I was more confident about tackling her other step workouts. Cathe can really kick butt on the step -- and twist your knees -- but there are always ways to modify.

I AGREE!! whenever I watch a show and they get out the step I just look at the tv and say.."oh no"! It's just a pain for me because I live in a small apartment and I don't have much room so it's difficult plus some of those videos are hard to keep up with and I feel I don't get a very effective cardio workout because I'm always missing a step here and there- I watch them many times before I start them too...it's frustrating. I like to work up a sweat but I can't in this situation

I know what you mean, so I do her workouts without the step! I really like them alot better and I don't have to worry about falling off ( I have that habit) And if I miss step no big deal I am on the floor. I started doing this because I am not an advanced exerciser and I am not the step queen, but I really like cathe's workouts so I decided to do them step free. Try it you might like it, I know I do.

Best wishes,
Jen

Yes, except I like stepping, just don't like following someone else's steps. I sometimes do my own free-form stepping to music of my choice. The step is great because it raises the heart rate more than just dancing can do.

I sometimes add the step so that I can really get aerobic with my dancing. I dance to a lot of 70's, 80's and some 90's and '00 upbeat tunes, like ELO, Howard Jones, Pink, etc. so I work up a really good sweat. (Also belly dancing)

I'll try that, Jen. It just might help. Perhaps after learning the moves without the step I can advance to using it.

i'm not crazy about all step... but LOVE the Imax and any of the circuits that include step

Hmm.. think it's time for IMAX 2 tonite!

I only love step once I learn the moves. It is sooooo discouraging when I am learning, I always feel like I miss half the workout.
