Step, Jump and Pump

I love this one. I did it for the first time this morning. The 25 minutes of step are easily mastered moves, but they are several short routines that she throws away and does not return to. The hi-lo is challenging aerobically, but once again east to follow, and she quickly throws away the routines after they are followed with pump work with weights. I had two barbells set up--one with 40 lbs, a second with 25 lbs, and 5's, 8's, and 15's for the weight work. There are intensity blasts in the hi-lo work and she ends with a fun little low impact routine, more weights, abs and planks. I felt VERY worked out, but really enjoyed the tape. The music is really fun, too. Some of my favorites.

Would you compare the hi/lo bursts to Boot Camp cardio? Would you compare the step section to Body Max's step section or more like the step sections of Cardio and Weights? Would you say the weight work was endurance based? Can you tell I'm just a little excited for this one?!? Thanks!

Hey, Garance! Thanks for the review! I've been especially looking forward to SJP!

Could you discuss a little more the moves and power moves Cathe includes in this workout? I'm a plyo bunny, as well as a devotee of high-knee runs, high kicks, etc. in hi/lo mode, as well as my beloved plyo moves at step tempo (power scissors, plyo jacks, one-legged hops, plie jacks, etc.), and I'm hoping this workout especially incorporates those.

TIA -

Aquajock, you are definitely going to love the hi-lo in this video--high kicks, plyometric jumps, high knee runs, running man, you name it, it's here. I think the little step routines are more like Cardio and Weights than BodyMax, although, as I said, they are shorter and not repeated as much. Each little routine has some new twists to make it fun. The weights--each body part is done only once, but with several reps, so I guess I would say endurance is the focus here. I did the squats with a 40 lb. barbell, and the reps seemed endless.

Hope this helps. I am still humming Abracadabra, and hoping the tough abs doesn't ruin my affection for the Stevie Nicks song (it won't!).

Oh--I forgot, Jillybean. Bootcamp is just one minute. These intensity bursts, following hi-lo, feel longer. This is definitely more of an aerobic and interval workout than Bootcamp, which, if I remember Cathe responding to me, was more about stamina. Hope this whets your appetite.

A-Jock,

I thought I would let you know that in Legs & Glutes Cathe does an AWESOME power scissors - she lunges right leg forward, right leg backwards - right leg forward, then goes right into eight power lunges, then she does the left leg lunges - then eight power lunges for about 6 or 8 sets - talk about a killer!

I have been quite impressed with all of her new videos. She uses the stability ball throughout Supersets. You know how some people say she uses the same moves over and over - well, she has proved them wrong.

Cathe does high knees in Kick Punch and Crunch - she never takes a break - it seems like all of the BLAST Series is that way - she goes from one segment to another with no break and just says if you feel you need to stretch go ahead, but I am going to keep going.

I really like that part of the tpaes, the only thing is getting to know what you need handy.

The wait was totally worth it - I absolutely love these!
