Stationary Bike Workout?

I'm trying to vary my workouts and just inherited a really nice stationary bike. Does anybody have any workouts for the bike?

Thanks Marcia :)

I put IMax on the tube, and do intervals and recovery along with Cathe on the bicycle. It's a great workout. For a shorter workout, I do Gin Miller's Intense Moves.

Hi Marcia! Some time ago I asked about a good spinning tape to use with my recumbant stationary bike. There were several people who gave me some ideas! However, I don't remember what tapes they suggested. :-( If you have an upright bike, I'm sure almost any spinning tape would be good! I'm thinking I've heard good things about a tape called Spinnervals -- I know Collage Video has those, among other spinning tapes. :)

In addition to the other suggestions, consider purchasing some cycling music CD's from fitness music companies (Power Music, Dynamix, Music Flex, etc.) and design your own workouts - faster music = less tension, slower music = more tension) - that could engage your brain even more!

If you mean workouts without tapes, heres an idea. Keep in mind that I tend to make things overly simple, whether that good or not.

First, (after you've decided how long you want to work out) have your bike in a room with a TV, and be sure you have on a program that really interestes you.....you may have to tape something, or get a movie at the video store.

Second: do a 5 minute warm up

Third: go into a steady pace, gradually cranking up your speed and resistance level. Do this for another 5 minutes.

Fourth: Start adding intervals, meaning increase your speed and go all out for about two minutes, then bring it down to your previous steady pace.

Fifth: Alternate this pattern until you've reached your time limit (30, 40, 45 minutes,or whatever)

Sixth: Cool down for another few minutes or so.

That's all folks.

Hi Marcia!

I have two tapes I like that are designed for spinning bikes. I'm assuming you can regulate the tension on your stationary bike?? If so, I think you would enjoy both of these tapes. They are killers too! :7 Mindy Mylrea's~"Sport Cycle" & Jay Blahnik's~"Precision Cycling". Both included some tough intervals. Have fun with your new bike, whatever you decide.
