Starting running - wish me luck!

I'm going to try running for some cardio today - it's been years since I've run, but I was going to pick up the papers the other day and jogged to the corner store and it felt great! So I decided to go get myself a proper pair of running shoes and start walking/running and see how it goes. A lot of posts I've read say that running is the best way to blast off fat, and I really want to get rid of my 'jelly belly'. I also need to have ready an activity that I can do w/ minimal equipment for when we move back to the States - it will be many weeks of upheaval and if I have running at my disposal I can always just put on my shoes and go for a run to get some exercise in.

I'll post an update later today and let you all know how it went!:7

Have a great run or jog/walk or whatever it turns out to be! Enjoy the great outdoors for awhile I'm sure it will be awesome!

Good luck but warning: Running can be addictive!!! ;-) I just started running a couple yrs ago & have already done lots of shorter races (5Ks, 5 milers), 2 half marathons, and am training for my first full marathon in a little over 3 weeks!

And it's a great idea to get good running shoes!! It will help prevent injuries & your feet will thank you! Let us know how it went & feel free to join in on the Cheetah (runners) check in!!

Hugs,

I think that is great Stephanie!! The best idea was getting the good shoes first...:)..Let us know how it goes and like Jess said, join us in the cheetah-runners check in, we have a lot of fun!!

Good luck to you Stephanie:) I discovered the joys of running last May (well I started in May, the joy didn't come until late June or so when my hip flexors decided to stop protesting and rise to the challenge}( :+ ). I have come to love running, it is challenging, fun and effective cardio. I love the mental space that running takes up, a huffin' and puffin' respite from the cares and worries of the day, just me and the road:)

Take Care
Laurie:)

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone! I went to a specialist running store today and the guy check out my feet, my gait (walking and jogging) and asked about any past injuries. He then recommended three different pair in my price range, I tried them on and picked the ones that felt the best (Nike Air Perseus III.)

Then I came home, put them on and went for a 35 minute walk/run - around 2 miles total. I walked more than I ran, but I did a total of 5 running intervals. Then I came home, did a Core Max and 1 1/2 Stretch Maxes. It felt pretty good, but my legs are sore now - esp. hip flexors! But it was a lot of fun. :7 I'm going to try to walk/run at least twice a week, cut down the walking intervals and up the running, and see how that goes. :) :)

Stephenie,

Good for you! Can't beat the fresh air. Good luck.
