Starting Over Again, Help!

Hi All,

I need a little help/advice. It has been a very long time since I have done step aerobics. I have let myself become quite a coach potato as of late and let myself baloon up to 190 pounds! I have recently lost 30 of those pounds and decided to do more than just walking a few miles a day as exercise to get the last 40-45 pounds off. I got the Cathe Basic step dvd and stepper for my birthday and just tried it out today. I couldn't even finish the workout! I got halfway through and couldn't do anymore. Cathe says in the beginning to do this workout 3 times per week but I cannot even finish. What do you all suggest that I should do being that I am so out of shape. Should I try a little more every day until I can complete the workout or just do it 3 times per wekk as much as I can do?

Please help, thanks.

do what you can for the 3 days a week and alternate it with some strength training like weights or pilates.you just keep going and going and before you know it,you will be able to do it all.i started out only doing 12 mins a day myself now i can go for over an hour.

Yes, just keep doing it as Kassia said and eventually you will get thru it. As they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day!" :7 Also, I agree that strength work is very important. Also be sure you are getting proper nutrition to fuel your workouts. Ecah day you do the workout maybe challenge yourself to go one more minute or one more sequence of the routine. Good Luck and WELCOME to Cathe's!!! Nice to have you here.

Cathe's workouts are not easy. I remember when I started with Cathe, I couldn't finish the w/o I had ~ let alone the thought of doing it 3 times a week scared me! Just do what you can (push yourself though) and add a little bit more length to each workout. You'll get there before you know it! Lots of luck to you

Just a thought, but how about if you try to keep moving throughout the workout but decrease the instensity. When you get to the point where you can't keep up with Cathe, try doing a basic step (i.e., step up and down alternating the lead foot and eliminate all the difficult jumps and turns), or try alternating tap up, or finish the time by going for a walk. This might also help to increase your endurance. HTH :)

ETA you could also just march in place a la Leslie Sansone until the end of the DVD.

Even if you increase your workout time by 3 or 5 minutes each session. Whatever is doable for you. Do a little more every workout session. I think you will also be surprised at how much you will be able to do after a month or two of being consistent. Good luck and let us know how you do! I'm really happy for you that you have decided to begin exercising again.
