Stains on dark clothing

I am having the worst time with my laundry! I often find grease like stains on my dark solid clothing after washing. I know they aren't there when I put them in the washing machine, and almost every wash there is one or two items (sometimes more) that have dark spots on them that weren't there before. I am so frustrated because this is ruining many of my family's clothes! It is almost impossible to get the stains out! I am currently soaking and washing a black shirt that I love for the third time because I don't want to throw it out! This doesn't happen with the light clothing, or maybe I just don't notice it because they are light colored. I suspect something is up with the washing machine, but it is only about a year old. Does anyone else have this problem, or has a remedy for it? Should I get my machine checked out?

Try using a generous amount of GOOP hand cleaner. It works like a charm! My youngest son always wipes his face an his shirts and this always gets out the mystery stains that appear after I wash and dry his shirts.

Make sure you check the pockets of EVERYTHING that gets washed. It really sounds like there is something in a pocket somewhere as grease stains would show up on lighter colors as well.

The Goop idea is a good run - run an empty load - preferably large - with it in there to see if that helps.

And if that fails as well, get your machine checked out.

Are you putting fabric softener in the wash? Sometimes this has caused the same stained look on my dark clothes. Good Luck. The problem I have is, some of my white workout shirts will have black spots on them. They always come out though. I think they somehow get sucked into the little holes in the washer which leaves a mark. Good luck. Melissa

Not sure what's causing the stains, but Simple Green works well to remove them. If you can't find it in the laundry section, look in the auto parts section.

They may not be grease stains. I know that sometimes I have this problem and they aren't grease. I use a liquid fabric softener and sometimes it doesn't get even distributed throughout the water and causes these spots. Once the clothes are dried, it takes several washing cycles to remove them, but they do come out.

HTH!

This was my first thought as well. I use to see this once in a while when using fabric softener. I quit using it and have never had the problem again.

I actually know the answer to this because I have the same problem and I did a search a few years ago to find the cause.

It seems that dirt suspended in the water can resettle onto your clothing. It happens to light colored clothes as well, it just isn't noticeable. This might be explained in the booklet that came with your machine in the troubleshooting section. The spots can be removed with a little soap. I use a bar soap and it works fine.

To avoid the problem, try the following suggestions:
- make sure you don't overload your machine
- turn your dark clothes inside out
- promptly remove the clothes from the machine as soon as it shuts off

I'm sure there's somthing I left out, but if you do a search you'll find a lot of information. Try looking on the website for whichever laundry detergent you use--they might mention something.

HTH:)
