Squishy Balance Ball

When you sit on your balance ball, how much should it flatten? I mean, crikes, I'm not that fat but mine seems to go quite elliptical on me.

I wonder if it's not inflated enough

And any tips for knowing when to stop inflating it, meaning when it's the right size?

Does the 55 cm refer to diameter or circumference?

Thanks so much in advance!

Susan, my ball was "squishy" too. It was a cheapy from KMart, so I figured it was leaking. I bought a better one from Wholesale Fitness (I think that's the name - where everyone gets their bands) My DH inflated it for me and a had him inflate to the maximum diameter, which he kept telling me was a mistake. LOL, it was so hard I couldn't do a thing on it without rolling off. I ended up deflating it quite a bit while my DH laughed at me. There should be a bit of give, but yours sounds a little too low. I think the right size depends on your height and the angle of your leg bend when you are sitting on it.

Thanks, Robin!

My balance ball is from Power Systems and after a bit of research on the web, I've figured out how big the circumference should be, and I've adjusted the ball accordingly.

Some balls are squishier than others (oh, that sounded bad, didn't it, LOL!). My DuraBall is very firm, while my other stability ball is softer.

Just to add a comment on the squishy balance balls...

Mine ( a cheapie from Walmart) does need to have air added every couple of months. I have found that exercising on it gets pretty difficult when its too squishy.

If my ball is low on air, then doing those Jack knife pikes from PUB are near impossible. However, if my ball is properly inflated, I can usually get through them.

Mine's an expensive one from Gaiam & I have to add air periodically also. It's just inevitable that some will seep out with ongoing use.

I judge my inflation level by watching Cathe & crew in Core Max. If mine's indenting about as far as theirs when we're all sitting on it I figure I've got it about right. :)
