Splitting workouts in half-effective or not?

Due to my work schedule, I am only allowed a limited amount of time in the morning to work out. I MUST be in the shower by 5:30 for everything to work just right so I can leave for work on time. I work 7:30am to 6 pm four days a week. On those days, I usually get up between 4:30 and 4:45 to exercise. This usually only leaves me 40-50 minutes to exercise (once I get up, get dressed, get water, etc.) What that means is that on some of the longer workouts, I will do half or slightly more than half (stopping at a reasonable place) in the morning, then will try to finish in the evening when I get home from work. Is this doing me as much good as pushing through the whole thing at once?

Hi bestoutwest--I'm not Cathe but........

I know how hard it is to fit exercise in with a busy lifestyle. It took me years to adjust & find a workout schedule that fits in w/everything else.

I do my cardio & weights together on the weekends, but during the week I split the aerobic & lifting workouts. So on Mondays I get up early & do cardio, on Wednesdays I lift after work, & on Thursdays I have another early morning cardio. It's been pretty effective for me.

I guess the one thing to bear in mind is, with cardio, you need to get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes, but it sounds like you've allowed for enough time to fit it in.

Hi,Bestoutwest and Maximus. If you are crunch of time you can try the ctx series. In these workouts you will find 30 minutes of cardio and close 10 minutes of weight training. Each day you can do 30 minutes of cardio and work your biceps, the next 30 minutes of cardio and work your back etc. In your situation the premixes of the dvd will be very useful.I love the upper body split of ME. It is 43: 25 minutes and you will work hard. The dvd are full of premixes you can use.
