splitting cardio/weights a.m. and p.m.

I've been doing some research about is it better to do cardio first or weights first (btw, there seems to be no definites about this). Then I read an article about the benefits of having approx. 8 or so hours between both. So, say you do 1/2 hour of weights in the a.m., then you follow up with your cardio in the evening. Has anyone tried this approach? I usually do my workouts around dinnertime... would have to get up earlier to split up my workouts. So is anyone doing their workouts this way?

I know Lauramax has been doing cardio in the mornings and her weights in the evenings for YEARS and it obviously works for her! I'm sure others do it that way as well. Hope you get more responses! :)

Yep, that would be me. :) Mostly b/c of time constraints. I prefer cardio in the morning--I feel like getting my heart rate up earlier in the day & keeping the metabolism going all day, rather than doing cardio 2-3 hours before I go to bed, has been pretty effective. Also I enjoy weights much more than cardio so I'm more likely to actually DO the weight training after a long day at work than cardio. And it's a really nice way to jump start the day--second best way I can think of.

Also I recently heard something about your body going into fat burning mode while you're asleep, so doing it while you're still in that mode is more effective. Something about glycogen levels or some such physiological stuff that I neither know nor care about.
:p

Anyway, it's not my preferred, ideal routine but it fits w/my schedule, it's a routine I can stick with, & it's worked for the most part.
