Spinning?

So, me and a friend just joined the gym today and we want to try out all the different classes. Our gym offers a beginners spin class but it doesn't fit into our schedule..would we be making a big mistake to go straight into the regular class that's an hour long?

I think it'll actually be great to be pushed into doing an hour of cardio..we're both young and neither of us are really overweight.. Any tips or anything going into this?

Thanks. :)

Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!:7 :7

I joined a gym about 4 months ago afte ronly working out at home for years, and my first spin class was very intense and I loved it!! I am now hooked! You and your girlfriend can go at your own pace, adding resistance to the bike as you see fit. But you will be just fine jumping right in to a regular 1-hour long class!

Let us know how it goes--I hope you both love it! I find it addicting!!

Spinning rocks! One of the best things about it is that you can really make it your own ride and go easier or harder as necessary or desired. The only serious problem you might have jumping right into an hour long class is soreness in the nether regions. Those seats are hard, and a lot of people either use gel seats or wear padded bike shorts to class, at least until they've built up a tolerance (or, always!). I started with a gel seat and moved to bike shorts.

Definitely show up early for the first class and let the instructor know it's your first time so he or she can help you get set up and go over the terminology. Hope you guys give it a go!

How'd the class go Kathleen?

I used to do a lot of spinning classes but haven't done much lately. I was never so lean and round in the booty as when I was spinning 3x/week. I had lots of experience cycling long distance on land before my first spinning class and figured it would be a breeze...wrong again Honey! Holy cardio!! Twenty minutes in to my first class I thought I might have a heart attack and fall of the bike! In some classes there is a definite air of competition as people add more and more tension to their bikes. My strategy was to drape my towel over the tension mechanism and work at my preferred level focussing on my performance, not someone else's.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for asking. :) We just went tonight. Wow..we really liked it..worked up a great sweat. People weren't kidding about those seats being hard..ouch!!..the first 2 minutes on that seat and I didn't know how my bum was going to make it an hour. Definately going to look into padded bike shorts. I tried to stand each time he told us to stand but I couldn't hold standing for very long, so I would sit back down again, but I did my best..when my legs get stronger, standing won't be such a big deal.

But we're going to go once a week and then maybe work up to twice a week.
