Spinning

Hi all,
I remember a while back reading Debbie H's (I think it was her) posts about buying a spinning bike. I had never tried spinning till this weekend when I took a class called "All Terrain Cycle". I have to say it was positively the toughest, most intense, bordering on insane, cardio workout I've ever experienced. It makes my most difficult cardio video (which would probably be one of Mindy's new ones) look easy in comparison. Am I just way wimpy, or does anyone else feel this way about spinning? It was KILLER!!!!!!!

Absolutely Not!

You are not a wimp! It is a KILLER workout. When I get done with a spinning video, let's just put it this way~DON'T GET TOO CLOSE TO ME!!! Yuck, am I ever a Sweaty Betty!:7 I remember the 1st. time my hubby & I did our first spin, it was all we could do to go 5-10 minutes. The quads were screaming. The heart was pounding. I thought there was no way that we could ever get thru a whole video and I consider myself an advanced exerciser (no boasting intended) Within about the 3rd. workout, we accomplished the task of finishing a vid at full speed but it was tough. Are you considering getting a spin bike Deb or joining a class? I love it for days that I don't feel like doing high impact. Have fun and so glad you survived it!

Deb - you're not a wimp! Any new activity is going to hit even an experienced exerciser hard. Sounds like you had a tough instructor to boot! You might have done too much for the first time. I thought spinning would be easy to master since I rode outside, but it's tough!

By the way, did you like it or not? Are you going back?

Debra

You are definitely not a wimp - spinning is tough!! I love it because I can get a fantastic workout with no impact. Spinning is so great for crosstraining! It does sound like you had an incredibly difficult class, though!

Thanks Debbie, Deb and Erica for your non-wimp-votes, LOL! :)
Since it was my first spinning experience, I don't know if the instructor was especially tough since I have no basis for comparison. But she SEEMED very tough. She'd make us slowly increase the tension (climbing a mountain), you know, a really long cardio blast, then she'd let us rest but the rests were SOOOO short, like 15 seconds. There are several instructors that teach spinning at this club that I just joined, so I kinda wanna try them all out to see if this one was indeed as Killer as I perceived her to be. I "SHOULD" have probably not hung in there for the whole 45 min. class....the instructor was encouraging me and another newbie in the class to go easy, not do the whole thing, etc. etc., but it's not in my blood to ever look wimpy. I was determined to hang in there, and push as hard as I could. (I've always been this way, as if I have something to PROVE to the world that I'm TOUGH!!! I don't know why I feel the need to do that! Maybe I just always wanna prove it to mySELF.:)) Anyway, I did enjoy it and do plan to take a spinning class at least once per week, preferably twice, in addition to my Cathes (currently doing a CTX rotation with extra Christi tacked on the beginnings for extra cardio). Thanks for all the encouragement!
