Spinervals?

A question for Andrea or anyone else familiar w/ Spinervals. I tried to find a complete set of reviews at VF without luck. Lots of threads, but most posters just rave about their favorite of the month. Same at the Bicycling forum.

I start classes on Monday & already feel the evenings getting shorter. It looks like my daylight biking is limited & I hate to waste time commuting to a club for a 40 minute spin class. So the Spinerval display at the bike store was pretty enticing. But which ones?

I'm looking for a moderate intensity steady state workout for base training. Also one for interval work (max 60 min). This is one rider who can't imagine doing more than 1 hr inside.

Last question: is there any music? One doesn't have to listen to Coach Troy the entire workout do they?

I know this should be on the "other videos" forum but it would get drowned!

I only have one Spinervals, but I really like it and want a few more. I guess I really should write a review of it! I have Spinervals 1.0 No Slackers Allowed. It is 45 minutes including warm-up and cool-down. It has a little bit of everything, high cadence spins, hill climbs, some standing climbing, and even some high cadence spins in a tougher gear. That is the reason I got it...to try out a little of everything. I don't have a trainer and use my spin bike, so I'm not sure if my tension adjustments are the same as it would be if I were in the gears Troy calls for. I have a cheat sheet that I got from VF as to how to adapt my spin bike to it.

There is music. It's fine, but you probably won't notice it much. All I ever listen for is for Troy to say "3, 2, ooonne!" cause then it's time to recover! The people in the video are all athletes, and it's set on a lake beach. I seem to like it better than the two spinning videos I have.

Thanks Andrea!

I think there are about a dozen Spinervals now but only 4 are reviewed at VF - No Slackers being one of them. I checked the Spinerval website too but the descriptions are brief. Coach Troy sure likes interval training!

I think I'll get a couple while they're on sale at Nashbar. It's supposed to be an El Nino year. I don't mind getting wet but So Cal drivers don't slow down for rain.

An advantage to your spin bike is the noise. You wouldn't believe how noisy a trainer is! So of course you have to crank up the tv volume & annoy the neighbors.

Thanks again.

semi recumbent bike ?

Can a semirecumbent bike used for a spinerval workout?

what is a semi recumbent bike ?

I can't picture a semi-recumbent bike :-hmmm

RE: what is a semi recumbent bike ?

A semirecumbent bike has the pedals more out in front than under the seat. The pedals are under where the handlebars might be if you were imagining a regular road bike. The seat has a back rest and is adjustable front to back instead of up and down. (Short legs need to be closer to the front to reach the pedals)
My understanding is that it works more hamstring and quads instead of mainly quads.
I origionally prrchased mine to get a no impact cardio workout while resting from Plantar Fascitis and bne spurs. I still like to mix it in periodically for a cardio change.

OK sorry about the typos in the previous posts. I always rush!

Anyway, I tried to stand on my semirecumbent bike, and I found that this is not posible. Any suggestions for modifying a spinerval workout?

There is very little standing in No Slackers Allowed. You could sit and still get a GREAT workout.
