spin shoes

I got Pearl Izumi, the people on studiosweatondemand.com recommended that brand. Previously I tried botranger that I got at my bike stores and they made my PF flare up. I love my pearl Izumi shoes!

I tried two different clip systems. I didn't like them on my road bike and liked them even less on the spin bike. the back and forth motion completely shredded the bottoms of my toes in half an hour.
on the road bike, I wore them a dozen times but kept thinking I was released when I wasn't. I fell a few times. got old quickly. I went back to loose toe baskets/running shoes and am much happier. My DH uses speedplay clips on his road bike, but found after spinning for a few months that he likes running shoes better. so whatever works for you. I have very flexible ankles and never could find a definite feeling of connecting or disconnecting. DH found the locked in position bothered his knees.
I would try spinning in some comfortable shoes first, you can always change it up as you become used to spinning.

thanks so much for the feedback. the bike I'm thinking about getting doesn't have a toe clip system or toe baskets so I may need to add something. my ankles are not that flexible, I tend to have stiff achilles tendons, so I'll be aware of that as well.

I like to cross train with spinning and am sometimes jumping on and off the bike several times, so I use my regular trainers but choose a pair with more of a stiff sole which helps with the spinning part - if that makes sense. My bike has the toe cages so I've had to really practice to get the foot motion down so I engage the hamstrings a bit more - I hear Cathe's voice in my head to think of having gum on the bottom of my shoe as I'm doing the back/ pull-up motion LOL! I hear clip-ins give it a totally different experience that works the hammies and calves really well though.
