Speaking of fashion....gauchos at the gym?

LauraMax

OK I've seen at least 2 women at my gym wearing gauchos to work out. I'm assuming they're fitness gauchos & that they weren't wearing them just b/c all their actual workout clothes were in the wash. Or that they don't own any at all.

So my issues w/this are:

1) this can't be practical for exercising. I already have enough trouble keeping long & cropped pants in place. I can't imagine the bunching, sliding & potentially inappropriate views from gauchos while I'm trying to do abs or bench press or a variety of other exercises.
2) they're ugly anyway.

Thoughts?

I hear ya Lauramax. A fellow exercise instructor I know wears them to teach her classes. She even has a camouflage pair that she wears with a hot pink tank. It's a little clownish...like I'm expecting her to pull out her huge clown shoes and put on a little red nose.

I haven't seen gauchos at the gym, I don't go to one, but there is a girl at work that comes around at night and files stuff in the patients' charts who seems to wear the same gaucho pants, purple top and ballet flats every night! First off, like LauraMax, I think that they are UGLY!! Secondly, in the workplace, the are just NOT professional looking. Not to mention that this look, although cute on some girls, is just not a good look for this girl!

I can't imagine trying to workout in these things! I even have a hard time keeping my shorts in place at times.

Who in their right mind brought these things back???

Hmm, well, I actually like gauchos and I have been eyeing a pair in the Janis Saffell Activewear Couture line. However, I'd wear these as casual pants and not for working out - I just think they'd be really impractical, so that part I totally agree with. (Of course, I find most of the stuff in her line fairly impractical for working out and really designed more for the sex appeal than anything else. But if it works for ya....)

:)

I actually like gauchos too, but not to work out in. I have a pair of wide leg pants that, as I was doing rythmic step, I caught my sneaker in, so I can't imagine the complications from gauchos. Plus, can you picture doing a pike on the ball in these? I would think that this would allow way too much to be exposed, and practically cover your face too. But, then again, I workout at home too and you should SEE some of the outfits I come up with.

Here are two totally random thoughts:
1)Aren't there alot of Laura's on this forum?
2)Every time I see a post from you, I can't wait to read it, because it usually makes me give a great whooping, out loud laugh!

lol! You crack me up woman.:7

If there's a place where I always take comfort over fashion is the gym. I can't imagine doing hip lifts with gauchos. They would ride up horribly, but I would take ladies wearing gauchos over ladies wearing tons of jewelry like Mr.T anytime!

You know, I completely agreed with you about gauchos for the longest time. But my mom bought a couple of pairs for me one day, so I wore them, not wanting to hurt her feelings. They kinda grew on me :|. With a nice form fitting top (not a hot pink tank ;)), a scarf, and some knee high boots, they were somewhat cool. At least I got a lot of compliments.

I'll never say I love them. But I NEVER try anything different, so I figured even they're a little ugly, at least I'm doing something different :). But I agree that the idea of working out with something like that is just ridiculous.

I googled to see what those were. I'm so up on fashion :p

Here's what I picture happening: I get these lovely, high fashion plate pants stuck under a weight plate or catch it on the edge of a machine and either rip the bejeebus out of them or look like a total, ahem, trying to get, unstuck. The image is just too sexy for words.

Please don't tell me gauchos's are comming back. I don't want this at all. At the GYM? Jeesh!x( Ugh!:-( Why?;(

I must be aging if someone had to look them up on the internet to find out what they are. Were they at least low rise?}(

Laura, you are too funny.:7

It's always a pleasure,

Janie

The idea is to die young as late as possible.

Funny that someone mentioned camoflauge gauchos because my 8yo dd has 2 pairs that she LOVES. They look adorable on her. But, I would personally never wear them! And to the gym- NO way!!!!

My MIL still wears gauchos (or as she calls them culottes) in hot pink, light blue, and other hideous colors.
(here's a link to one similar to the ones she wears http://www.carolwrightgifts.com/cwg...26&key=55119202&CFID=4610447&CFTOKEN=63631719 ) Thankfully I love her dearly, but she definitely needs a fashion makeover!

Gym fashion styles can be amusing. Remember the late '80s and early '90s? Leg warmers! Those shiny tights!! Headbands (even Cathe wore those!)
Anyone remember THONG leotards/bottoms worn over thin leggings? Now there was look!!! And soooo practical, too!!

Oh my...I'm going to give it up here and admit that I used to own a thong leotard.....eeeewwwww! But I thought I was SMOKIN' at the time! Just one more in a long line of 'what were you thinking'?
Laura

Another Laura whore wore a thong leotard. Several in fact. And I think I got the grand idea from Power Max so thanks Cathe, wherever you are. :+

Laura, did you mean to type *WHORE* wore a thong leotard???? This thread is cracking me up!!

Ha, ha, ha this is so funny!

My 14 year old daughter likes gauchos and they look cute on her.

But to me, they will forever be "culottes" and I will NEVER go there!!! Remind me of my elderly mother in law... :)

Well, I wear them for yoga. They are more fitted in the legs than the ones in your link but they have the same roll-down waist. They stay put well enough, I guess because they are not as loose. I actually like them, they are just something different. I get so tired of the standard yoga look - either capri or boot-cut and that's it.
