Soreness

I have a question about soreness. Whenever I do MIS, I feel it the next day or two. When I do PowerHour, I work my muscles to exhaustion, but don't really feel sore the next day. Does the amount of soreness I feel (or don't feel) have anything to do with the results I get from a workout? I want to feel sore because I feel like I accomplished something. Kind of stupid question, but maybe somebody can clue me in.

I get sore from PH, but Slow and Heavy doesn't make me very sore at all. I think it's because of the stretch and rest between exercises.

I also like to have a bit of soreness the day after I workout intensly. It makes me feel like I actually DID work hard and that I'll reap some good benefits from it.

On the other hand, I just read something that kind of changes my perspective on soreness.

According to Susan Kleiner: this post-exercise soreness can be a sign of damage being done to the cellular membranes, perhaps increasing the risk of early aging and developing chronic disease. Intense training can cause post-exercise muscle injury that results in a secondary production of free radicals that can last for many days. There has been an associatgion between the increased production of freer radials and muscle-cell damage and soreness.

If this is so, then perhaps on days when we are less sore, we have eaten something (some foods high in antioxidants?) that helps stave off this damage. I've read that raisins eaten before working out can provide the body with a good source of especially protective antioxidants.

I'm still going for the "bit of soreness" (especially in those parts that need "help", if you know what I mean), but I might stock up on some raisins, too!;)

That's pretty interesting, first time I've heard something negative about being sore. I wonder how that correlates with tearing/rebuilding the muscle which I thought contributed to soreness (and increased muscle size). Anyway,I generally eat the same things before a workout so I don't think the antioxidant theory is my issue, although maybe I will try eating some raisins first and see if I still get as sore.

Thanks for the info.

I have read to that if your getting enough protein to repair your muscles that you don't get sore and it does work because I am never sore since I have added whey protein after my wt training.I use to feel I had to always be sore and always was but that also lead to exercise burnout for a week or 2.I would get so sore I couldn't sit on the toilet. But since I eat better I am never sore and I push myself hard with heavy wts.I have not had to take a week off for over 2 years and have really built muscle.
